Steven Spielberg unveils intense new film footage during Universal's theater tribute
Steven Spielberg was the guest of honour at Universal Studios on Thursday night, where the studio officially named its new, state-of-the-art screening room after the legendary director. The event brought out a star-studded crowd including the Daniels, Seth Rogen, Ava DuVernay, Colman Domingo, and Vin Diesel. Taking the stage at the emotional gathering, Spielberg, 77, reflected on his decades-long relationship with the studio - from directing his first project Duel in 1971 to recent releases like The Fabelmans. 'It feels like we keep getting remarried,' he joked. 'But tonight is definitely a milestone.' As if to prove he's far from slowing down, Spielberg also gave guests an exclusive first look at behind-the-scenes footage from his mysterious upcoming film, slated for release in 2026. While plot details remain under wraps, the cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, and Colin Firth. The preview teased high-stakes action: Blunt's character flees ominous black vehicles, a harrowing train collision unfolds, and Firth appears to be a shadowy figure pulling strings from what looks like a high-tech command centre. Although Spielberg hasn't confirmed the film's theme, the chase sequences, underground labs, and eerie suspense suggest a sci-fi edge, possibly even the long-rumoured UFO plot. NBCUniversal's Donna Langley and Comcast's top brass hosted the ceremony, describing the new 'Spielberg Theater' as the heart of their expanded film campus. Fitted with Dolby Vision and Atmos tech, as well as 35mm and 70mm projectors, the venue will be used by future directors to perfect their cuts, a detail not lost on Spielberg. 'This isn't just my past,' he said. 'It's about tomorrow's storytellers too.'

Colman Domingo, Paul Tazewell, Sean Bankhead to be Honored at Native Son Awards
Native Son has announced the honorees of its 2025 Native Son Awards, recognizing the accomplishments and advocacy of Black gay and queer men. This year, the organization will honor actor Colman Domingo, costume designer Paul Tazewell, choreographer Sean Bankhead, multidisciplinary artist Derrick Adams, National Black Justice Collective CEO and executive director Dr. David J. Johns and founder of the Black AIDS Institute Phill Wilson. 'This organization is incredibly close to my heart, and to be acknowledged by a community that celebrates the brilliance and resilience of Black queer and gay men is truly humbling. Thank you for seeing me.' In addition to recognizing the aforementioned honorees, the event will feature performances by Grammy award-nominated singer-songwriter Durand Bernarr and The Voice contestant Deon Jones. The program will also include social impact moments led by former Native Son Awards honorees Rashad Robinson, Alphonso David and Keith Boykin highlighting Black and queer history. The Native Son Awards were created by media professional and professor Emil Wilbekin as an extension of his Native Son movement, designed to be a safe space for the Black gay community to commune and celebrate one another. The gala, first held in 2016, serves as a fundraiser to support Native Son's programs and initiatives throughout the year. 'As Native Son looks toward our milestone 10th anniversary next year, it is incredible to think about not only how much the movement has grown but how much it was and continues to be needed in this community,' said Wilbekin in a news release. 'The work that we are doing and the safer spaces we have created is especially critical as we think about the countless challenges we are facing at this moment in our country's history. Our community is seeing erasure, rollbacks of important protections and, in general, the enforcement of anti-LGBTQ legislation. At Native Son, we are committed to remaining steadfast in the storm to continue to uphold and archive the voice, visibility and existence of Black gay and queer men.' The Native Son Awards will be held during Pride Month on June 11 at the IAC Building in New York City. Former CNN broadcast journalist Don Lemon will serve as host for the third consecutive year. Kim Novak to receive Venice Film Festival's lifetime achievement honor
Kim Novak, the glamorous and fiercely independent star of one of the greatest films ever made, Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo,' will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival this fall. Festival organizers said Monday that they will also host the world premiere of Alexandre Philippe's documentary 'Kim Novak's Vertigo,' which was made in collaboration with the actor. Alberto Barbera, the festival's artistic director, said that the award, 'celebrates a star who was emancipated, a rebel at the heart of Hollywood who illuminated the dreams of movie lovers before retiring to her ranch in Oregon to dedicate herself to painting and to her horses.' Novak, who is 92, left her Hollywood career behind long ago. But in recent years she has occasionally granted interviews around significant film anniversaries and made public appearances. After presenting at the 2014 Oscars many online, including Donald Trump, insulted her appearance. She responded with an open letter writing, 'I will no longer hold myself back from speaking out against bullies." Earlier this year actor Sydney Sweeney paid homage to Novak on the Met Gala red carpet. She's portraying Novak in a new film directed by Colman Domingo about her relationship with Rat Packer Sammy Davis Jr. Of this latest honor, Novak said she is 'deeply touched' to receive the award. 'To be recognized for my body of work at this time in my life is a dream come true,' Novak said. 'I will treasure every moment I spend in Venice. It will fill my heart with joy.' The Venice Film Festival runs from Aug. 27 through Sept. 6, but the full slate of films selected won't be announced until late July. 'The Holdovers' filmmaker Alexander Payne will preside over the main competition jury.
