2 Colts' QBs make ranking of top 25 players in NFL history

Two former Colts quarterbacks would make a recent list that ranked the top 25 players in NFL history. Two former Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks would make a recent list that ranked the top 25 players in NFL history. Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports recently put these rankings together, and representing the Colts were quarterbacks Johnny Unitas and Peyton Manning. Unitas came in at No. 13 in DeArdo's rankings while Manning was at No. 6. "The NFL's best quarterback during the league's first 50 years," DeArdo wrote. "Johnny U" led the Colts to NFL titles in 1958 and '59 and a Super Bowl title in 1970. He was the winning quarterback in what many consider the greatest game in NFL history: the 1958 NFL Championship Game between the Colts and Giants that was the first overtime contest in league history. "His record of 47 straight games with at least one touchdown pass stood from 1960 until Drew Brees passed him in 2012." Unitas played 18 seasons with the Baltimore Colts. Over his career, he was a 10-time Pro Bowler, a five-time All-Pro, a three-time MVP, a three-time NFL Champion, and a one-time Super Bowl champion. Unitas would throw for 40,239 yards with 290 touchdowns, and he's a member of the Hall of Fame. Manning, meanwhile, played 13 seasons with the Colts, which included winning a Super Bowl, making 11 Pro Bowls, five first-team All-Pros, and being named the league MVP four times. Manning would throw for 54,828 yards while with the Colts, along with 399 touchdown passes. He is also in the NFL's Hall of Fame. "If Brady is Jack Nicklaus, Manning is Arnold Palmer in this epic QB rivalry," DeArdo wrote. "Brady has more titles, but Manning has his own unique legacy that includes a record five league MVPs as well as being the first starting quarterback to win Super Bowls with two different clubs. And like Palmer did with golf, Manning has served as a significant ambassador for the NFL, both during his playing days and in retirement."

Former Indianapolis Colts' defender a favorite of Cam Bynum's growing up

This former Indianapolis Colts defender was among Cam Bynum's favorite players to watch when he was growing up. Current Indianapolis Colts' safety Cam Bynum was a big fan of watching former Colts' safety Bob Sanders when he was growing up. Appearing on the 'Colts Show' podcast with JJ Stankevitz during media day, Bynum discussed how it was Sanders' play style that made him a fan of his game. 'He used to just kill people," Bynum said. "He was smaller. He was that guy that's just always flying around, just hitting people no matter how big they were. So he was just fearless out there." Sanders was a second-round pick by the Colts in the 2004 NFL draft and would play seven of his eight NFL seasons in Indianapolis. During that span, Sanders was a two-time Pro Bowler, a two-time first-team All-Pro, and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2007. Sanders made 46 starts with the Colts, logging six interceptions, 16 pass deflections, and totaling 295 tackles, while also earning the nickname 'The Hitman.' "Another thing is he'd always hit people's legs and make them flip," added Bynum. "As a kid, that's like a cartoon, like a football movie. You're watching 'The Little Giants' and you see all of the big hits and everything, and that's what he made happen in real life. So that was the first thing that was attractive about his game was the way that he used to just hit people." Bynum signed a four-year, $60 million deal to join the Colts as a free agent earlier this offseason. He brings to Indianapolis impressive ball production and a versatile skill set. In Lou Anarumo's defense, we will see Bynum filling a variety of different roles, especially in what is expected to be a more aggressive and disguise-heavy defensive scheme.

Indianapolis Colts a key contributor to AFC South's low ranking

The Indianapolis Colts are key contributors to the AFC South's low ranking when it comes to quarterback play. The Nick Shook recently ranked each of the eight divisions by their quarterback play, and coming in at the bottom of this list at No. 8 was the AFC South. Advertisement "If everything falls into place, all four franchises should have their answers under center and vault up the rankings," wrote Shook. "But that if is currently teetering like a Jenga tower headed toward the endgame." While the AFC South sits last in these rankings, Shook did mention that this division also has the "greatest untapped potential" at quarterback as well. The Colts, specifically, are navigating significant unknowns at quarterback currently. This offseason, the team signed Daniel Jones to compete with Anthony Richardson, with the hope being that the added competition will raise the level of play within this room. So far, Jones has the early advantage with Richardson missing most of OTAs and all of minicamp with a shoulder injury. Advertisement Richardson recently mentioned that he will be ready for training camp, at which point the quarterback competition can resume. While Jones presumably has the upper hand given the additional reps he's gotten, what took place in offseason programs isn't going to determine who the Week 1 starter is. But with that said, with less time, Richardson will have to hit the ground running upon his return. Ultimately, as Shane Steichen has said, he's looking for day-to-day consistency more than anything else when it comes to determining this positional battle. Rivals Five-Star: Breaking down the tight ends

INDIANAPOLIS – The stars came out for the 2025 Rivals Five-Star event at the Indianapolis Colts' facility this week. Here we break down the top tight ends from the event. MORE FROM INDY: Highlights and analysis | Teams that should be pleased | Positional MVPs | Gorney Awards | Biggest surprises | Flip watch | QB analysis | RB analysis | WR analysis RECRUITING INTEL: Mid-South | Florida | West | Southeast | Midwest RIVALS FIVE-STAR MEDIA DAY: All the news, notes and interviews | The All-Lobby Team | How solid are the commitments? | Roster RIVALS FIVE-STAR INTERVIEWS: Jaden O'Neal | Trae Taylor | Chase Calicut | Samu Moala | Jake Kreul | Felix Ojo | Peyton Houston | CJ Sadler | Richard Wesley | JaReylan McCoy | Carter Scruggs | Nolan Wilson | Carson Sneed | Derrek Cooper | Devin Carter | Jayden Wade | Joel Wyatt | Kaden Henderson | Nick Abrams Prothro's development is encouraging Prothro was one of players the national analyst staff was most excited to see perform at Rivals Five-Star on Tuesday. The elite tight end prospect was warming up and went through the majority of position drills when he pulled his hamstring and was unable to work out the rest of the day. Advertisement Prothro was visibly disappointed but his physical development, which was the biggest question mark surrounding his ranking, was obvious. He weighed in at 216 pounds and, despite the pulled hamstring, even participated in the bench press competition where he recorded nine reps of 225 pounds. Georgia is trending in Prothro's recruitment but Auburn and a handful of other teams are in pursuit. Georgia poised to sign an elite tight end class The caliber of defender Georgia commit Lincoln Keyes faced at Five-Star was new to him and it was good for the national analyst team to evaluate him under these conditions. The Michigan native is a very impressive prospect with great hands and the ability to make tough catches over the middle and down the field. He'll be a very reliable target for Georgia quarterbacks when he gets on the field in Athens but that could take some time. Keyes has a well-rounded game but he could find it difficult to consistently create separation from defenders when he reaches the next level. Advertisement That being said, the style Keyes plays with would complement Prothro's skillset beautifully, if both do end up signing with Georgia. The two highly ranked tight ends were frequently seen chatting and playing catch during the down time on Tuesday. That relationship appears to be fairly strong and could pay dividends for the Dawgs down the road. The 2027 prospect out of Illinois is fairly well-developed from a physical perspective and showed strong athletic traits throughout the workout on Tuesday. Advertisement Adjusting to the variety of quarterbacks seemed to be a bit challenging for him at times, which resulted in passes falling incomplete. Niemi is only heading into his junior season so there is plenty of time for him to make adjustments to his game before he reaches the next level. He is, however, on the smaller side when it comes to the trends that have emerged in the NFL Draft for tight ends so keeping an eye on his physical growth will be a focus going forward. Sneed's impact shouldn't be overlooked Tennessee tight end commit Carson Sneed posted impressive measurements during registration on Monday and he had plenty of bright spots on the field Tuesday. At 6-foot-6, 246 pounds, Sneed is fairly lean but plays with a great deal of strength, which showed when linebackers and defensive backs bounced off of him as they tried to disrupt his routes. Advertisement He isn't the most natural receiver but there is plenty of potential to get excited about, which is surely part of the reason why Florida, North Carolina and others are trying to pry him away from the Volunteers. The Gators appear to be making some headway but it's hard to count out North Carolina at this point in the recruiting process. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT
