The Fantastic Four First Steps first reviews: Best MCU film of decade, say critics

The first set of reviews of the highly-anticipated 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is here. The sci-fi action-adventure has been praised for its unique storytelling, stellar performances, emotional depth and on-screen camaraderie among the lead film debuted with an impressive 86% score on review-aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes with a total of 130 reviews. The official critics' consensus on the site reads, "Benefitting from rock-solid cast chemistry and clad in appealingly retro 1960s design, this crack at The Fantastic Four does Marvel's First Family justice."advertisement Josh Wilding of Comic Book Movie wrote, "B-Listers no more. This team has found redemption in a nonstop fantastic adventure that gives the movie a high-stakes feel we know many of you feel has been lacking from several Multiverse Saga titles. Superman soared earlier this month, but 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is the superhero event of the summer that demands to be watched on the biggest screen possible."While praising the film and the presentation of the villain, Galactus, Peter Debruge of Variety wrote, "The comic-book studio finally does right by the popular quartet, scaling back from the overcrowded feel of recent offerings while delivering its most gargantuan threat yet in the all-consuming villain Galactus." Robbie Collin of The Telegraph ranked the movie above 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame'. While calling it 'Marvel's best film in a decade', he said, "Starring an excellent Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal, this reboot feels like the start of an exciting new chapter for Marvel."The cast's performances were commended in several reviews, which also mentioned the chemistry between Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. "The actors are so terrific and their chemistry so palpable that the hangout scenes in their fabulous Baxter Building penthouse — with a domestic droid that's like Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons meets Number 5 from John Badham's Short Circuit — are some of the movie's most appealing interludes," wrote David Rooney for The Hollywood camaraderie between Vanessa and Pedro's characters was praised by Giovanni Lago in his review for Next Best Picture. He wrote, "At its core, this is Reed and Sue's film. They are the characters most deeply tied to Galactus's threat and receive the most whole development. Academy Award-nominee Vanessa Kirby gives the strongest performance among the leads, anchoring Sue's emotional journey through motherhood with conviction. Her chemistry with Pedro Pascal sells their dynamic as both partners and parents."Set against a 1960s-inspired backdrop, the movie introduces the new MCU lineup: Pedro as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Their mission is to stop Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a cosmic force bent on destroying Earth, and face off against his powerful Herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).advertisementThe film is directed by Matt Shakman and produced by Kevin Feige.'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is scheduled to release in theatres on July 25, 2025.- Ends

Is Ryan Gosling The Next Black Panther For Marvel? What We Know

Last Updated: Ryan Gosling's casting as Black Panther started as a joke, but it gave fans hope after new Marvel comics introduced a new T'Challa who is white. Hollywood star Ryan Gosling is already set to appear in the upcoming Star Wars film, but fans now believe he might also join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A meme showing Gosling's face edited onto Black Panther's body has gone viral—and what started as a joke has gained unexpected traction thanks to a new Marvel comic. According to Comic Book Movie, Marvel's latest series Marvel Knights: The World to Come introduces a new version of the Black Panther. The storyline begins with an older T'Challa's death and then moves back in time to explore events leading to his downfall. In a major twist, a new Black Panther emerges—Ketema, a white man who is hinted to be the son of T'Challa and Monica Lynne. The comic explores Ketema's strained relationship with his father. His unresolved emotions lead him to challenge T'Challa and eventually claim the throne of Wakanda. The introduction of a white Black Panther has sparked conversations online, with some fans pointing out the uncanny resemblance between the comic character and Gosling. While there has been no official announcement from Marvel about Gosling's involvement, the comic's storyline—and the viral meme—have fueled speculation that the actor could be cast as Ketema in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. For now, it's just fan theory. But with Gosling's star power and Marvel's history of surprising casting moves, anything seems possible. RUMOR: Ryan Gosling will be the new Black Panther in the #MCU from another universe! — MCU Source (@MCUSource) June 5, 2025 Fans now shared more memes about Ryan Gosling as Black Panther. The multiverse gives space for new and bold ideas, but Black Panther holds a strong cultural meaning and for many, it's not a role that should be changed easily following the death of Chadwick Boseman. As of now, Gosling hasn't been cast in any Marvel movie and the rumour started as a meme. It picked up again only because the new comic introduced Ketema, a white version of Black Panther. Currently, Gosling is busy preparing for Star Wars: Starfighter. Meanwhile, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are eagerly waiting for Avengers: Doomsday, the fifth film in the Avengers series. The movie is expected to bring together the newer group of heroes introduced in recent films. What has caught everyone's attention is the return of Robert Downey Jr, who will play the powerful villain Doctor Doom, who earlier played Iron Man. While not much is known about the plot, the film is expected to show a huge battle between the heroes and Doom, who is one of the most powerful villains in Marvel. The superhero movie is set to release on December 18, 2026. First Published:

Peacemaker: James Gunn Teases John Cena vs. Batman in DCU

James Gunn wants to see John Cena's fight Batman in the DCU. Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU officially kicked off last December with the animated Creature Commandos series. Gunn's Superman movie is now being released in United States theaters next month before Peacemaker Season 2, which is part of the new shared DC universe, arrives in August 2025. At CCXPMX 25 this past weekend, per ComicBookMovie, Cena and Gunn were both asked who they'd like to see Cena's Christopher Smith character fight at some point in the DCU. While Cena didn't have an answer, Gunn said that he wants Peacemaker to fight Batman at some point. At this time, it's not clear who will be playing the Dark Knight in the DCU, as no official casting announcement has been made. A Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is currently in the works and is being directed by The Flash's Andy Muschietti, though there haven't been a lot of substantial announcements since that project in some time. Peacemaker Season 2, meanwhile, premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. The season will have eight episodes in total. 'The new season follows Christopher 'Chris' Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost,' the official logline reads. Along with Cena, the cast of Peacemaker Season 2 includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, Michael Rooker as Red St. Wild, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Filion as Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord.

Marvel's The Fantastic Four Almost Has THIS Doctor Who Actor Playing Reed Richards Instead of Pedro Pascal

David Tennant, best known for his role in Doctor Who, recently shared that he had his eye set on playing Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, in Marvel Studios' upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Speaking at MCM Comic Con, as per Comic Book Movie, Tennant was asked which superhero role he would want to play. He answered honestly, saying, 'In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction.' While the part ultimately went to The Last of Us and The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal, Tennant made it clear there were no hard feelings. 'Although if it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal,' he added. Pedro Pascal will lead The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Reed Richards. The Marvel Studios film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, and is expected to launch a new chapter in the MCU. The casting of Pascal as Mister Fantastic was confirmed earlier this year and drew attention from fans across the globe. The film also stars Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Julia Garner joins as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson will play Galactus. Although Tennant missed the chance to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a leading role, he is no stranger to comic book adaptations. He previously played the villain Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, a Marvel series that aired on Netflix. Following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel fans will face a long gap before the next MCU movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the next title on the calendar, releasing on July 31, 2026. This marks the longest break between MCU films since the period between Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 and Black Widow in 2021. The delay is largely due to the shift in release dates for the next Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday was pushed from May 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, has been moved from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027.
