First merit list of FYJC admissions finally declared
After a prolonged delay, the first merit list of the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions was finally declared on Saturday — 59 per cent of the total applicants for the Common Admission Process (CAP) round 1 have been allotted seats. All these students have until July 7 to confirm their admissions in the allotted seats. In all, 10,66,005 candidates had applied for FYJC admissions under CAP round 1, including 2,31,356 for Arts, 2,24,931 for Commerce and 6,09,718 for Science. Of the total applicants, 6,32,194 have been allotted seats in CAP round 1 — 1,49,791 in Arts, 1,39,602 in Commerce and 3,42,801 in Science. In all, 4,57,841 candidates have been allotted seats in their first college of preference. This includes 1,35,620 allotments in Arts, 82,594 allotments in Commerce and 2,39,627 in Science. As per rules, all these students have to confirm their admissions in their allotted seats. Meanwhile, out of 1,45,225 applications received under the in-house, minority and management quota of junior colleges, 60,487 admissions have been confirmed in round zero, which takes place before CAP round 1. Now, after admissions under CAP round 1 are finalised, the vacancy list for round 2 will be declared on July 9. The FYJC merit list, which was earlier scheduled to be out on June 26, was delayed due to technical snags. The office of deputy director had announced that the list will be out on June 30, but it was declared on Saturday evening. With slight variations, cutoffs of popular city colleges have gone up marginally. For example, at the city's most popular St Xavier's College, cutoff for Arts remained the same as that of last year's – 94.3 per cent. Whereas in Science stream it has gone up from 91.6 per cent to 93. At Ruia College, cutoff for Arts increased marginally from 92.2 per cent to 92.4 whereas in Science it has gone up from 93.4 per cent to 94.4.

Delay in FYJC admissions, first merit list to be out on June 30
The first merit of the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions in Maharashtra which was to be declared on Thursday, will now be out on June 30 (Monday). This is the fourth revision to FYJC admission schedule adding another delay of four days to the Common Admission Process (CAP). Director of Education (Secondary) Mahesh Palkar, said, 'The data which is huge in numbers is yet under process leading to the delay in declaration of merit list. Now the first merit list will be declared on June 30. And a revised admission schedule for CAP will be released soon.' But with a lack of clarity on postponement on Thursday, there was panic among FYJC aspirants and their parents who kept refreshing the official admission website to check for the first merit list. According to parents, there is already much chaos around FYJC admissions and every delay is leading to increased anxiety among students. One of the parents said, 'The least they could do is put up a message on the official website that the first merit list is not going to be declared on Thursday as per the schedule. We kept checking the website after every hour for the merit list.' Several parents have also pointed out that with another delay to FYJC admissions, their wards are now sitting idle for more than three months. 'The SSC (Class 10) board exam was over in March. It was declared that board exams are being held early so that the next academic year will begin on time after admissions. But now, even as June is ending, there is no clarity on FYJC admissions.' The FYJC admissions this year are extended to the entire Maharashtra as opposed to a separate online process for each city, which was the practice until last year. Over 12.7 lakh students have registered for FYJC admissions from across the state. Citing that this huge number of candidates has delayed the processing of data, the date to declare the first merit list was earlier pushed from June 10 to June 26.

Engineering aspirants can now apply through state CET cell for admission under institutional quota
Engineering aspirants seeking admission under the 20% institutional quota in Maharashtra can now apply through the Common Admission Process (CAP) conducted by the state CET Cell. While colleges will retain the right to issue their own merit lists, this new option aims to give students an alternative to apply if direct applications to colleges is not possible due to any reason. With MHT-CET results out, engineering admissions in Maharashtra are expected to start soon. The Higher and Technical Education Department announced revised rules on Friday. The government has already declared clear eligibility criteria for NRI candidates—who will occupy 5% of institutional quota seats. Additionally, colleges are already informed about fee-related guidelines for these seats. They charge up to three times the regular fees for management quota seats and five times more for NRI quota seats. All this streamlining is expected to bring greater transparency to engineering admissions, including those under institutional quota. The notification declaring amendment to the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission to the Full Time Professional Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Integrated or Dual Degree Technical Courses) states, 'in case candidate is unable to submit the application directly to the institution concerned for any reason, the candidate shall have the opportunity to apply through the website of the Competent Authority till the date of allotment of final CAP Round. These applications will be forwarded to the respective institutions after the allotment process of CAP Round-IV. The concerned institution shall consider such applications while preparing the Inter-Se-Merit.' Traditionally, 80% of engineering seats are filled through CAP, with the remaining 20% filled by colleges under the institutional quota. As per information shared by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), while this process remains unchanged, students now have the CAP portal as an optional route for institutional quota applications. Director of DTE, Vinod Mohitkar, said, 'There is absolutely no intrusion on admissions done at the institutional level. We are only providing an optional platform for students to apply for those seats. This is only because we would receive random complaints from students that certain institutes are not taking their application of admission under institutional quota. In such cases they will have another option to apply. These applications will be sent to colleges to consider while declaring merit list.' Another significant change is the introduction of a fourth CAP round, as opposed to established practice of three CAP rounds. This is expected to allow students one additional chance to secure admission through CAP before the institutional round begins. Furthermore, there will be stricter rules for admission confirmation. Previously, confirmation was only mandatory if candidates were allotted their first-choice college. Now, in Round 2, confirmation is required if the allotted college is among the top three choices, and in Round 3, if it is among the top six.
