Glasgow pubs in running for top honours at new awards gala

Victoria Bar and Chrystal Bell have each been shortlisted at the inaugural Proper Pubs Awards Gala, along with Horse Shoe Bar in Motherwell. The gala was launched by Proper Pubs to celebrate community pubs across its estate of more than 200 venues in England, Scotland, and Wales. Victoria Bar is nominated in multiple categories, including Sports Pub of the Year, Community Pub of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement Award, while Chrystal Bell is up for Entertainment Pub of the Year, Audit Pub of the Year, and Sales Performance Pub of the Year. Mark Brooke, managing director of Proper Pubs, said: "Our pubs sit at the heart of their local communities and are constantly going above and beyond for customers and residents, from charity fundraising to hosting brilliant entertainment, so it's only right that we acknowledge these incredible achievements. "Our operators are the face of Proper Pubs and we are so proud of all the work they do day in and day out. "I'd like to extend my thanks to all our pubs and to congratulate every single operator for all their incredible hard work. "On behalf of myself and the whole team at Proper Pubs, I'd like to wish the very best of luck to all the finalists and I look forward to celebrating with them next month." The awards ceremony will take place in Chesterfield on July 31, and will include nine categories, such as Best New Proper Pub of the Year, Marketing and Social Media Pub of the Year, and Gaming Pub of the Year. Finalists were nominated by their business development managers for exceptional service to their communities, and one venue will be named the overall 'Proper Pubs' Pub of the Year. Proper Pubs, a division of Admiral Taverns, was named Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards in March 2024. The group recently collected more than 20,000 Easter eggs for donation to communities in need and raised nearly £100,000 in three months for UK charities.

Deadline extended to vote for your favourite Glasgow pub

There is still time to cast your vote for Scotland's best bars and pubs. The deadline to vote for this year's Scottish Bar and Pub Awards has been extended until Friday, June 20, giving customers some more time to support their favourite haunts. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the awards, which celebrate the top facilities in the licensed trade across the country. The awards recognise excellence across the industry, including bars, pubs, restaurants, late-night venues, and the people who make them special. On top of this, two new categories have been introduced: Community Pub of the Year and Hotel Bar of the Year. Susan Young, organiser of the awards, said: "These category additions reflect the incredible diversity of Scotland's bar and pub scene. "Community pubs are the heartbeat of Scottish towns and villages, while hotel bars deliver world-class experiences that put Scotland on the global hospitality map. "Both deserve their moment in the spotlight." Judging involves covert visits by a panel of experts who travel from the Highlands to the Borders to experience the venues first-hand. Susan said: "We've been thrilled by the outstanding entries received thus far, and there's still time to nominate the bars and people who make Scotland's hospitality scene truly special. "It's time to help us celebrate the incredible talent across the country."
