The Buccaneers – Season 2 Episode 3 'Get Her Out' Recap & Review

Get Her Out Episode 3 of The Buccaneers season 2 starts with Theo reeling after the bombshell reveal about Guy. Nan eventually concedes that yes, she did sleep with Guy the night before their wedding. Nan explains she was going to run away but also why it was necessary to go through with the marriage. She needed to secure his title so she could protect her sister. The Dowager Duchess stays quiet this whole time, listening, as Nan intentionally doesn't include her involvement. Theo leaves the castle, having not been seen for a while, although that doesn't deter the current plan for a Midsummer Night's Dream party to go ahead. This is all for Lizzy of course, who's taken aback when she learns the news that Theo has gone. However, that shock soon spirals when she finds out her mum, Lavinia, has shown up. She's not been around for months and Lizzy is not particularly happy. Thankfully, her happiness soon returns when Hector takes her away for a walk. He wants to be with her and asks her to marry him. She agrees and it's good news for them all round. Conchita and her sister butt heads over the idea of romance. Cora doesn't think her sister is happy in her marriage but Conchita reminds her that there's more to romance than just stroking hair and reciting poetry. At the party later on in the episode, Cora comes clean that she's worried she may not find romance. She wants her happily-ever-after and with her parents putting pressure on her finding love, Conchita actually gives her sister some good advice. Specifically, in just giving someone her time. That eventually does come from a guy wearing yellow socks – one of Cora's quirks. Conchita decides that she should set up a matchmaking service to bring power back into the arms of women so they can choose a partner instead. Well, be careful what you wish for; Lavinia offers to pay her double to help out Mabel's 'instincts' and to set her on the right path. With most of her friends off matchmaking, Mabel remains a rebel, especially in the wake of her mother worried about her not being 'normal'. I mean, normal is overrated anyway, embrace the weird quirks! Meanwhile, Jinny is approached by an Italian friend at the market when she tries to haggle and speak Italian. He brings her back home, where she joins a surprised Guy as Jinny starts to cook for him. It's not cooked particularly well though, with the steaks very much well done. Guy jokes that this is a 'glorious feast', until they end up in a food fight. Back to the party, the Duke returns. Theo is not going to hide and has decided he's going to end the marriage. He wants her out of the castle, given her betrayal and conspiracy. The Duchess agrees to his wishes… but believes they need to secure an heir first. Theo tries to just throw himself into the lust but without the feelings behind it, he struggles. He eventually tells her she can leave… but only after they've had children. Nan is pissed and confronts the Dowager, pointing out that the marriage that she's trapped her in, alongside the hard-fought title, will die with them. However, Reede Robinson, whom the Dowager had been getting along well with earlier in the episode, seemingly overhears all this. Now, Reede and the Dowager have a history together, given they used to be rebels, but it seems he knows more than he's letting on. We need more drama here though so Theo suddenly switches and tells Lizzy how extraordinary she is. He thinks that her being with Hector is a waste and suddenly starts pining for her. As for Nan, she shows up in the office and finds a whole bunch of letters from Guy and Jinny. The Dowager has clearly been keeping these from her and she's not particularly happy. The Dowager speaks to Theo after and explains that he found Guy and Nan together the night before the wedding. She sticks up for Nan and tells him it's not her fault. The Dowager forced her into this and explains that both are trapped in a cage equally. He's pissed and forces her out the castle. The Episode Review Oh dear, things are not looking good for Nan and Theo are they? With Theo finding out the truth about Guy, Nan is put in a difficult position as it seems she needs to secure an heir for the castle before she's even allowed to leave. However, things are made that much more complicated when it seems Theo is now pining for Lizzy. Where did this come from? Was there any indication this was the case prior to this episode? Meanwhile, Conchita is put in a difficult position as it seems she's going to have to 'work on' Mabel, although the drama involving Cora at least has a decent little ending. This season has a lot of manufactured drama and I guess that's per the course for this show at this point. Whether the series can step up beyond that though is anybody's guess at this point. Fans have days to binge 'addictive' historic drama before the new season

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Period drama lovers have just days to race through this underrated Apple TV Plus show, The Buccaneers, ahead of the second season. The eight-episode first season is based on classic novelist Edith Wharton's unfinished novel and offers a modern take on the lives of a group of New York debutantes sent to London to find husbands. Set during the Gilded Age, we meet Conchita (Alisha Boe), Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), Mabel (Josie Totah), Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) and Nan (Kristine Froseth, lifelong friends about to encounter plenty of heartbreak, love and scandal. Originally released in 2023, the synopsis reads: 'A group of fun-loving American girls burst onto the scene in tightly corseted 1870s London kicking off an Anglo-American cultural clash. 'Sent to secure husbands and status, the buccaneers' hearts are set on much more than that.' The show comes across as a fusion of Julian Fellowes' Gilded Age and Netflix's Bridgerton – fusing the more serious themes of the period aesthetic with the current trend of forward-looking historic dramas, dubbed by some as 'anachronistic'. Although it gets off to a rocky start for some viewers, it has won countless fans over by the end with its refreshing ensemble cast. The first season landed an impressive 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. 'Very easy and enjoyable to watch, pure escapism, loveable characters, beautiful scenery and costumes, great soundtrack,' user Kate C wrote. 'I love everything about this show. Truly magical. A must watch for sure!' Freya C added. 'Love this version of Edith Wharton… it works brilliantly on so many levels.. roll on season 2,' L S shared. 'It's intelligent, well-acted, funny, uplifting and addictive!' Patrick G said. 'It had absolutely everything and more you would want in a period drama. It also covered a lot of interesting topics such as women having to be silent, abuse, loveless marriages, and unfaithfulness. Our main group of women prove themselves a powerful ensemble cast with vivacious personalities. Far from my initial impression of a shallow drama with trite love triangles, predictable affairs and stereotypical aristocracy, this only scratches the surface. Don't get me wrong, for people who love those soap operatic style storylines, there is still plenty to sink your teeth into, but the show also goes much deeper than that – as proven by season two. 'It started with annoying Americans laughing and being silly, but managed to transform into each character having a really important story,' Jemma CC said on Google Reviews. Nisha Bhatt echoed: 'I can't say enjoyed the premise or the first episode too much but the character development is truly the best part of this show. Unlike several other shows, the side characters have some the best storytelling and leave you wanting to watch the show again.' More Trending 'Everyone needs to watch The Buccaneers is so cute and addictive,' @anyasunrise wrote over on X. The show may not be to everyone's taste, however, so proceed with caution. Some have called it out for 'poor writing', the lack of 'historical accuracy' and 'ridiculous storylines', with some unhappy with how the main character, Nan, is characterised. The second season will introduce Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester and pick up right from where the show left off after that dramatic season one cliffhanger.
