Conor Purcell makes cut in maiden PGA event but Séamus Power falls well short
Conor Purcell has made the cut in his first PGA event despite a two-over 72 in the second round at the ISCO Championship in Kentucky. The Dubliner had carded a 68 in Thursday's opening round at the Hurstbourne Country Club course, and while he was not able to match that on Friday, he was still able to stay inside the cut mark on level par in the tournament which is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour. Purcell, who earned his DP World Tour card at the end of last year, bogeyed the fifth and seventh on Friday as he struggled early on. It didn't get better at the start of his back nine with another bogey on the tenth, before bouncing back with a birdie on 12. Another bogey on 14 proved a temporary setback as he finished on a positive note with a birdie on the 18th to ensure that he will be involved in the weekend rounds. However, Séamus Power missed the cut after a 73 left the Waterford man on seven. Chan Kim is the runaway leader at the halfway stage after a 68 left the American on 11 under, five clear of the chasing pack.

Conor Purcell mounts storming finish to enter top-25 at BMW International Open
Conor Purcell mounted a storming finish to his second round on Friday to post a 67 and reach five-under par at the midway point at the BMW International Open in Munich. Purcell's streaky round was bookended by eagles in which he made a fast start, suffered a violent mid-round wobble, before recovering with a spectacular late flourish. Even par overnight, the Dubliner teed off on the 10th, the Dubliner reached four-under par quickly, sinking a 30-footer for eagle on 11, with further birdies on 13 and 15 to reach the turn in strong shape. However, then he was blown off course with bogeys at the first and third, before he pulled his approach into the water for a double-bogey at the fourth to undo all his early good work. However, the third act of his topsy-turvy round would be a surging finish, with three straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh, before he drained a 13ft eagle putt on the ninth to sit on five-under. As it stands, that leaves him six shots adrift of current leader Davis Bryant, who carded a scintillating 64 on Friday. The American leads by one stroke from Norway's Kristoffer Reitan on 10-under, with English pair Jordan Smith and Daniel Brown in the grouping on nine-under par. Purcell, who has two top-20 finishes so far in his maiden season on tour, is currently tied-23rd with some afternoon starters still yet to finish.

Conor Purcell rallies strongly after poor start in Munich

There's a quintet of leaders on five-under after Day 1, with England's Marco Penge, Malaysia's Gavin Green, France's Ugo Coussaud, Netherlands' Darius Van Driel and China's Wenyi Ding heading in the field in a very congested leaderboard. There are no fewer than 23 players within two strokes of the lead, with Jordan Smith, Grant Forrest and Richie Ramsey among them.
