Former NRL star Cooper Johns mocks Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes for his highbrow alcohol preference - 'laughed in his face'
Cooper Johns and Jahrome Hughes were once teammates at the Melbourne Storm - but that didn't stop the KIIS FM radio identity from mocking the decorated halfback for his highbrow alcohol choice. Speaking on the Johns Family podcast this week, Cooper set the scene from a recent night out in Townsville in far north Queensland. 'The Storm boys headed to (notorious local pub) the Mad Cow after beating the Cowboys,' Johns said. 'Everyone was having a good time, ordering drinks. '(At the moment) Jahrome has a bet going with (teammate) Cameron Munster on who can't drink the longest, I think there is a grand ($1000) on the line. 'There is an exception, Hughesy can have a bottle of red (when on a night out) on occasion. 'He calls himself Red Wine Rome, Jahrome is convinced he plays well if he has a little bit of red wine (in the lead-up and after NRL games.) 'Anyway, we were at the Mad Cow, and Jahrome goes up to the bar and asks the lady: 'what bottles of red do you have? 'She looked at him and said: 'this is the Mad don't have red. 'Then she laughed in his then so did all his teammates.' Johns - who was in Townsville visiting other footy players as well as the Storm squad - added that a red-faced Hughes was 'filthy', and then didn't touch a drop of alcohol for the rest of the night. Meanwhile, Hughes will be a key figure on Saturday afternoon when Newcastle host Melbourne at McDonald Jones Stadium. The Storm will be without Cameron Munster - who attended his dad's funeral this week - while fellow Queensland Origin hero Harry Grant is likely to be rested. NSW Blues prop Stefano Utoikamanu will back up for Craig Bellamy's team.

Kyle & Jackie O star attacked with a hose in heated exchange after confronting the show's 'biggest hater': 'She's threatening me!'
A staff member from The Kyle & Jackie O show has been threatened by an angry listener after he tried to repossess a television gifted by Kyle Sandilands. Disgruntled listener Grace turned a garden hose on KIIS FM Thunderbird street team member Party Marty this week. The drama unfurled on Thursday when Jackie recounted Grace's less than impressed reaction to hearing the show. 'Basically we had this guy say that in his backyard with the tradies working, they love blasting the show,' she explained. 'But his next door neighbour Grace was always yelling over the fence: "I hate that show turn it off."' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Jackie went on to recall how the radio duo spoke to Grace to try and change her opinion of the popular Sydney breakfast show. To help smooth things over Kyle also gifted Grace a 60-inch television. 'Then we spoke to Grace and we loved her. She was hilarious and then she kind of came around and liked us,' Jackie added. Upon learning that Grace had since ditched the show, despite receiving the television, co-star Cooper Johns called her to try and get to the that root of her anger. Grace gave no quarter to Cooper, telling him: 'I'm sorry I've told your producers to stop calling me, I'm sick of it,' before unceremoniously hanging up the phone. Unperturbed, Cooper tried a second time only to be met with: 'How many times have I got to tell you not to contact me anymore I had enough.' He had better luck on a third attempt, with Grace explaining her distaste of the show. 'I decided that I was going to listen and I spoke to that Kyle and when he said he was suffering from a brain aneurysm I felt sorry for him. Then he offered me a TV, so I decided I was going to listen to the program and I did,' she said. 'I mustn't sound ungrateful I accepted the TV, but you know what I really cant stand it [the show].' She added she was particularly annoyed with Kyle 'talking over' guests and his penchant for talking about American politics. She also took umbrage with his judging role on Australian Idol, saying: 'He's judging on that show but in order to judge talent you have to have talent to recognise it. He can't sing.' Kyle then cut to Party Marty who was parked in a KIIS FM Thunderbird across the road from Grace's house. 'We've got Party Marty in her driveway from the KIIS FM Thunderbird to reclaim the TV,' Kyle explained. 'I'm going to ask her If you're no fan of ours and you're s*** canning us how about handing back the TV it's only right.' The plan was soon scuttled however, when Party Marty approached the front door. Upon identifying himself, a clearly angry Grace could be heard shouting: 'I don't want to be harassed.' The radio duo then instructed Marty to leave, with Kyle saying: 'You don't want the hose put on you. You don't want to upset the woman.' The scene escalated when Marty revealed that Grace was threatening him and turned the garden hose on him. Grace's reaction was met with approval from Jackie, who declared: 'It's great, isn't it? Solves so many problems, hosing someone.' Cooper added that Grace was good radio 'talent'. 'She's an excellent character,' he said.

NRL player turned Kyle & Jackie O radio star Cooper Johns confesses he suffers from an irresistible urge to do something VERY illegal
NRL player turned radio star Cooper Johns has made the stunning confession that he has kleptomania, a mental health disorder characterised by an irresistible urge to steal. The 25-year-old son of Newcastle Knights legend Matty Johns - who played for Melbourne and Manly before starting his radio career with Kyle & Jackie O - opened up about his psychological condition on the Backstage with Cooper & Matty Johns podcast. 'He is a hoarder,' Matty told guest and former footy star Joel Caine. Cooper then explained that he has always had a problem culling stuff that he owns. 'It's pretty well documented [that I] used to steal a lot,' Cooper confessed. 'Massive klepto.' Johns (pictured playing for Manly) explained that he used to steal a lot in his younger days Matty recalled taking his son to the Triple M radio studios, where Cooper would steal from people. 'He stole ten bucks off Jamie Angel, the boss, once. Off his desk,' said Matty. Cooper then recalled the time he stole horny goat weed from another workmate. 'Remember that stuff?' said Cooper. 'I was like 12 and I just took it not knowing what it was. I didn't have any use for it at that time - I wish I had it now, I could put it to good use these days.' It's not the first time that Cooper has spoken about his condition, with the footy funnyman revealing in 2023 on the Kyle & Jackie O show just how much he'd steal from the building that houses Austereo, which airs the program. 'I used to bring an empty backpack up into Dad's work when I was younger,' he said. 'Why was it empty?' Kyle asked. 'Because I would steal stuff from the office, from people's desks and stuff,' Cooper responded. 'You little klepto,' a shocked Kyle said. Jackie O asked if Cooper had ever stolen from them personally. 'Yeah. I don't know if it was your desks or not,' Cooper said as they all laughed. 'I would steal a whole lot of stuff.' Johns quit the NRL at the start of 2024 following stints with the Melbourne Storm and Manly Sea Eagles dating back to 2020. The former five-eighth, who is the son of Rugby League legend Matty Johns and nephew of Andrew Johns, then joined The Kyle and Jackie O Show as a full-time radio producer.
