Woman rushed to hospital after dog attack as Gardai investigate
A young woman is recovering in hospital after suffering 'serious injuries' in a horrific dog attack at a property in Cork last night. The incident took place in the Glenfields Park area of Ballyvolane at approximately 7.30pm on Friday evening, when Gardai were alerted to a dog attack. Gardai were joined by ambulance service personnel at the scene, where it was reported that a dog - understood to be an American Bully-type crossbreed - attacked the woman and caused injuries which are understood to be serious. CorkBeo reports that the woman, who is aged in her 30s, was rushed to Cork University Hospital for treatment, while the dog involved was subsequently destroyed by a vet. "Gardaí were alerted to an incident involving a dog that occurred at a residential property in the Ballyvolane area of Cork, on Friday, 18th July 2025," a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said. "A woman, aged in her 30s, was been taken to Cork University Hospital for medical treatment. "The dog involved was subsequently euthanised by a vet. Inquires are ongoing." Speaking to the publication, one resident described the dog as being a "big, bully type crossbreed" but insisted that it was a family pet who had never previously displayed aggressive behaviour. Stock image of XL Bully dog (Image: Getty) The incident is the latest in a string of serious dog attacks across the country in recent years. Since the Irish Government made the decision to introduce a new law which outlawed the ownership of designated 'dangerous dogs' without a certificate of exemption, dozens of such canines have been surrendered to local authorities. The decision was prompted by a number of high-profile attacks by XL Bully dogs. From October 2024, it became illegal to import, breed, rehome or resell an XL Bully dog. Cork hurling fan gets 'All-Ireland champions '25' tattoo' days before final
Let's face it - we're all counting on the Rebels to claim this year's Liam McCarthy Cup. However, perhaps nobody's quite as certain as this Cork gentleman, who's already had a tattoo inked celebrating an All-Ireland Senior Championship victory - nearly a week ahead of the final itself. Devoted hurling enthusiast Michael had the artwork completed without charge at Skint Tattoo Studio in Passage West on Tuesday. Proprietor Darragh Murphy explains it was purely "only for a laugh and a bit of craic" - and in the worst-case scenario, he can always modify it and "change a digit or two" for Cork's subsequent All-Ireland triumph. Darragh informed Cork Beo that Michael is a genuine Rebel devotee and acknowledges the tattoo might appear to many as 'a bit of a risk. ' Nevertheless, to be fair, he was planning to have it completed regardless - this simply adds some extra thrill. Naturally, like numerous Cork fans, Darragh also completely anticipates the Rebels emerging victorious at Croke Park this Sunday. The 'Cork Senior Hurling Champions' tattoo formed part of a flash promotion he was running to generate excitement for the final - though he wasn't certain anyone would be bold enough to go through with it. Speaking to Cork Beo, he revealed: "It's a real tattoo, yeah, I had a bunch of other flash tattoos going like of the Cork crest and the county outline and things like that. I said whoever wanted it could get it for free. I didn't know Michael, but he said he was going to get the same tattoo anyway if they won - might as well take the chance and get it now for free! "And if it's not this year, they're likely to win soon anyways." Darragh Murphy doing the tattoo at his home studio in Passage West (Image: Facebook) Darragh, who is still honing his skills in the tattoo industry, operates part-time from a home studio. He shared that the idea for the tattoo came from viral stories about football fans getting premature tattoos declaring their teams as champions before any actual victories. One of the most notorious instances involved a 29 year old from Swindon named Dan, who got an 'England Euro 2024 Winner' tattoo before England's final match against Spain. Despite spending two hours having the UEFA European Championship trophy inked on his leg and England's subsequent 2-1 defeat, he claimed to have no regrets and still cherished the tattoo. The tattoo of the Euro Cup with the words 'England Euro 2024 Winners (Image: Jack Wilkinson / PA) Darragh remarked: "At least this is better than most of those cases, because I waited until Cork were actually in the final so we do have a live chance. Of course, a tattoo still might be a little too far - I just did it for the craic." He also expressed a desire to boost local support: "I wanted to get more support out there. You see people from Cork out there with Man United or Liverpool tattoos, but no GAA tattoos. I kind of think those are the most important ones to have, Cork is your own team."

'Intoxicated' man arrested at Irish beach after 'refusing to get out of water'
A young man, who was described as being intoxicated by witnesses, was arrested after refusing to get out of the water at a beach in Cork on Saturday. The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested by Gardaí after being removed from the water at Warren Beach in Rosscarbery on Saturday afternoon. People enjoying the warm weather were alerted to commotion in the water as lifeguards raised red flags for no swimming and ushered everyone out of the water while they dealt with a public disorder incident, reports Cork Beo. Eyewitnesses described seeing one man, who was reported to be aggressive, evading attempts by lifeguards to remove him from the water and hurling threatening verbal abuse at them. At one stage, according to a witness who watched events unfold, a lifeguard is reported to have tried to pull the man onto a rescue board, and the man jumped off it back into the sea. When the man, who is believed to have been intoxicated, was eventually taken back to shore, he was arrested on the sand and walked off the beach by two Gardaí. Gardaí confirmed to CorkBeo that officers were alerted to the incident and that a young man was arrested for the public order incident. A spokesperson said: "Gardaí responded to reports of an incident on a beach at Rosscarbery, Co. Cork at approximately 4 pm on Saturday, 12th July 2025. A male in his 20s was arrested at the scene under public order legislation. Inquiries are ongoing." Shortly after the man was removed from the scene, the flag was changed back to red and yellow, and people were allowed back into the water. The hot weather will continue across the country on Sunday, but conditions will begin to change from the afternoon, when thunderstorms will move in from the west. Met Éireann has issued a status yellow temperature warning for eight counties, which will come into effect at 2pm and remain in place until 10pm on Sunday night, impacting outdoor events in affected areas. A high temperature alert for 17 counties came into effect at midday on Sunday and will remain in place until 6pm, with Met Éireann warning of the potential for water safety issues due to increased crowds at lakes and beaches. Masked armed gang smashes up home and cars as Gardai launch investigation
Footage has emerged of a shocking incident in Cork which saw a group of masked men, armed with weapons, engage in an attack on a home and a multiple cars. The video above shows a gang of several thugs approaching a property with a range of weapons - including slash hooks and crow bars - before attacking the front door. Meanwhile, on the road, other masked men can be seen smashing two parked cars and breaking their windows as glass is sent flying before they flee the scene. CorkBeo reports that the incident took place on Thursday night in Onslow Gardens near Blackpool. The attack took place shortly before 10pm, when it was still bright out. No injuries have been reported. Local Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating "an incident of criminal damage that occurred outside a residence in Onslow Gardens, Cork at approximately 9:45 pm last night." A spokesperson added: "Damage was reported to a house and vehicle. No injuries were reported." In a plea for the perpetrators to stop, Ken O'Flynn TD said an escalating feud on Cork's northside is "terrorising... an otherwise peaceful neighbourhood." He said: "Innocent residents - men, women, and children - were caught in the middle of this madness," he said, "Several families have had their vehicles vandalised, their safety compromised, and their sense of community shattered. This is not just unacceptable. It is appalling." The Irish Mirror's Crime Writers Michael O'Toole and Paul Healy are writing a new weekly newsletter called Crime Ireland. Click here to sign up and get it delivered to your inbox every week He added: "This kind of violence has no place on our streets... I am calling for calm and restraint from all involved. Nothing justifies this sort of aggression, and it must stop before someone is seriously injured or killed. I urge those engaged in this feud to take a step back and consider the devastation they are bringing not only upon each other but upon the wider community." The Independent Ireland Deputy said he would raise the incident with Gardaí and the Minister for Justice and would do 'all in his power to facilitate' a resolution to the feud.
