5 Steelers on the roster bubble heading into training camp

Training camp is one of the best opportunities for players to prove why they belong on the 53-man roster — and the Steelers have their fair share of competitors on the roster bubble. In Pittsburgh, these five players are hanging onto a chance to make the final cut — and they'll need a strong showing in Latrobe to keep their Steel City dreams alive. CB Brandin Echols After the acquisition of star CB Jalen Ramsey, the newly signed Echols seems to be the odd man out on the Steelers secondary. The former Jets cornerback could definitely use a standout performance in Latrobe — as depth cornerbacks like James Pierre and Cory Trice Jr. hold the edge in familiarity on Steelers defense. P Corliss Waitman With the starting spot at punter likely up for grabs, it's difficult to say whether Waitman or the now-healthy Cameron Johnston has the edge in the positional battle. Only one punter will make the final roster — and although Waitman showed flashes of brilliance, Johnston's experience may prove more beneficial for Pittsburgh in the long run. RB Cordarrelle Patterson The Steelers completely overhauled the running back room this offseason — and Patterson's receiving/return abilities may not be able to save him a spot on the Steelers roster 2025 — but a return to form at training camp may do the trick. LB Mark Robinson Robinson is also facing stiff competition to make the roster on a retooled defense, as the newly acquired Malik Harrison and the now-healthy Cole Holcomb could slam the door shut on any hopes of making the 2025 roster. DE DeMarvin Leal Leal hasn't quite lived up to expectations since being drafted by Pittsburgh with the 84th overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The fourth-year Steeler seems to be on the outside looking in after the 2025 NFL Draft and may need an almost perfect training camp outing to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. Steelers Reveal Quarterback Aaron Rodgers' Jersey Number

Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, in a game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field on October 23, 2022. -- All Pro Reels Photography The Pittsburgh Steelers announced what jersey number quarterback Aaron Rodgers will wear for the 2025 season. The Pittsburgh Steelers revealed quarterback Aaron Rodgers' jersey number, and it's not the one he's worn for most of his NFL career. Advertisement Rodgers will wear No. 8 with the Steelers for the 2025 season after officially signing his contract on Saturday. Rodgers wore No. 12 with the Green Bay Packers for the first 18 years of his NFL career, but that number has been unofficially retired by Pittsburgh. It was last worn by Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who led the Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s. The 41-year-old's second choice was likely No. 8 after he wore it for the past two season with the New York Jets and during his two years at the University of California. There was one issue, however. No. 8 was owned by Pittsburgh punter Corliss Waitman, who stepped in for injured punter Cameron Johnston last season. Advertisement Pittsburgh re-signed Waitman this offseason as insurance, and it's likely he just got another payday to give up No. 8. Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last season and is now a member of the Cleveland Browns. The four-time NFL MVP is coming off a disappointing season in 2024 after leading the Jets to a 5-12 finish. But he still proved to have some good football left in him while throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Steelers announce jersey number for QB Aaron Rodgers

From the moment the Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers, there was mystery surrounding what jersey number Rodgers would wear with the Steelers. Rodgers wore No. 12 when he was with the Green Bay Packers but switched to No. 8 with the New York Jets. Now with the Steelers, Rodgers will continue to wear No. 8. There was some concern that Rodgers might insist on wearing No. 12, which would have opened up a whole can of worms. No Steeler has worn No. 12 since Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw retired in 1983. Pittsburgh has never officially retired the number but this is fairly common for the team to not retire a jersey but still never allow it to be worn. Advertisement Wearing No. 8 means punter Corliss Waitman will switch to No. 3. We hope Rodgers cuts Waitman a nice check for the jersey. Rodgers joins Steelers legends Tommy Maddox and Kenny Pickett as the other two quarterbacks to wear the number. Aaron Rodgers signs with Steelers: See which number the new AFC North QB will wear

It was a big day filled with numbers for Aaron Rodgers on Saturday. He signed his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The deal is for a year and will earn the quarterback $10 million guaranteed, with a maximum value of $19.5 million. The deal includes $5.85 million worth of playing time and team performance incentives. Rodgers will wear No. 8 for the Steelers, per Adam Schefter. No Steelers player has worn 12 since Terry Bradshaw, so that was out of the question, although the number is not retired. Rodgers will take the number from current punter Corliss Waitman, who has been with the team for three seasons.
