Woman charged with murder after hurling 5-litre bottle of water at teen, killing him
A KwaZulu-Natal woman has been charged with murder after a five-litre bottle of water she hurled at a 16-year-old boy and his friend hit him on the head and killed him.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the woman claimed the boys peeped into her apartment at Cornubia Flats, north of Durban, daily via the kitchen door.
On Monday evening, the alleged peeping prompted her to grab the bottle and throw it at him.
'It struck the 16-year-old on the head, causing him to collapse. The woman then contacted the RUSA operations centre at around 20:04, stating that she believed the boy may have died, but was unsure,' RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said.
He added that RUSA officers responded immediately and found the teenager's body in a neighbour's yard.
He said there were no signs of life and the boy was declared dead at the scene.
Residents identified the boy and said he lived in the same housing complex.
'His parents were informed of the incident and arrived shortly afterward,' he added.
The woman who was arrested is expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
