About 500 litres (110 gallons) of diesel spilled onto a road in Plymouth from a tanker which had been and Somerset Fire Service said it was called out at 18:15 BST on Sunday to reports of the spillage on Lockyers said a crew from Greenbank managed to contain the leak with assistance at the scene coming from Cornwall Fire Service, South West Water (SWW) and Plymouth City Council.A statement from firefighters added about 250 litres (55 gallons) of diesel had entered a nearby sewer network, but risk assessments done by SWW deemed the amounts to be of low risk.

Firefighters battled a solar panels blaze on a rooftop overlooking a Cornish Fire Service said it was called to reports of a solar panel system fire on a building in Island Crescent, near Towan Beach, Newquay, at about 12:20 BST on fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from Newquay were sent to the scene.A spokesperson said crews were able to "quickly secure" the area and the affected panel was removed by firefighters and an electrician.

Firefighters tackle timber yard fire

Firefighters have tacked a blaze at a timber yard in north Cornwall. Cornwall Fire Service said the fire started in a pile of 1,000 tonnes of wood at the yard at Laneast, near Launceston, on Wednesday. Crews from Launceston, Liskeard, Bodmin, Callington, Delabole and Helots were involved. A vehicle parked behind it was also reported to have been badly melted. Photos shared on social media showed a plume of black smoke rising above the fishing port, which was busy with tourists. A local business owner said that it was her campervan that had been destroyed, according to the Falmouth Packet. She wrote on Facebook: "It was my campervan. A car on fire set my van on fire and melted car behind." Cornwall Fire Service said it received calls at about 3.40pm. A fire service spokesperson said crews from Helston and Penzance used two hose reels to extinguish the blaze. No-one was hurt in the fire. A full statement read: "Crews from Penzance and Helston are in attendance at a car fire which spread to a small campervan. "Firefighters are using two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
