Second Corvette EV concept debuts with California styling
The second of three electric Chevrolet Corvette concepts has surfaced, although GM is very keen to point out that this car in no way previews a Corvette EV. While the first electric Corvette concept, which debuted in April, came from the company's design team in the UK, the latest hails from GM's Advanced Design studios in Pasadena, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Although there are no details about where the concept's motors are located, the California Corvette concept, as it's known, sticks to the mid-engine supercar design template. All-Electric Corvette Foreshadowed During C8 ZR1 Auction
Read the full story on The Auto Wire During the television broadcast of the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction of the C8 ZR1 Corvette, some astute watchers noticed a hint that an all-electric Corvette is indeed coming. Many watching likely missed the detail because they were so focused on seeing how much the 2025 Corvette ZR1 would auction for (answer: $3.7 million).But one user on Mid Engine Corvette Forum took a screen capture of the detail and its spreading like wildfire online. You'll notice the chief engineer for the Corvette line, Josh Holder, who's on the auction block gets a chyron on the screen which reads 'Vehicle Chief Engineer, Corvette ICE.' Of course, ICE stands for internal combustion engine, leading people to wonder if the means Chevy now has a 'Vehicle Chief Engineer, Corvette EV.' It's a good question, all things considered. While GM has released a number of EV models in recent years, including a version of the Silverado, to the surprise of many there hasn't been one for the C8 Corvette. There is the E-Ray, which is the first hybrid model for America's sports car, but that's it, so far. Rumors have been running wild for some time that an all-electric version of the Corvette is coming. This detail is ramping those up, leading to speculation the C9 will finally see this reality. If GM does go ahead with an all-electric Corvette, the next question is will it be made alongside a gasoline-powered version or will it completely replace that? We think the former is more likely, especially with the cooling of interest in EVs. But honestly, GM has made dumber decisions in the recent past. There's also the possibility a full-electric version of the Corvette won't be a sports car. After all, rumors that GM will launch a whole family of Corvette model lines, including a crossover and a sedan, are still floating around. After all, Ford made an EV crossover it tries to sell as a Mustang, the Mach-E. We'll just have to see what GM ultimately does.
