Raging Force an impressive winner

SYDNEY Raging Force trounced his opposition by four lengths in the A$60,000 (S$49,900) The Autumn Sun @ Arrowfield Handicap (1,100m) at the Randwick-Kensington track on June 25 to take his record to two victories from as many starts this campaign. An injury suffered in the opening 2YO race of the season prevented the Peter Snowden-trained gelding from playing a significant role in his juvenile year, but he is clearly on his way to making up for lost time. He ran sixth behind King Kirk at his debut run in the Group 3 Breeders' Plate (1,000m) at Randwick on Oct 5, 2024, but opened his account in the Red Crown 2YO Handicap (900m) at Muswellbrook on June 1. Raging Force is a son of Cosmic Force, who was also trained by Snowden and won the 2019 Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1,200m). While Raging Force has a long way to go to emulate his sire, Snowden regards him as a progressive horse capable of measuring up to better grade. "He was like his dad there the last 100 metres," he said. "I will probably run him in a Saturday race and then give him a freshen-up because the carnival comes around quickly. "He is a talented horse who has got good upside." Raging Force ($9) was able to find the front for Tommy Berry and lengthened stride impressively in the straight to surge clear and score from Bryant (Joshua Parr), with Just Legendary (Tim Clark) another 4½ lengths away in third. Berry said Raging Force relaxed well enough in the lead and could extend to longer sprints, but also said his speed was one of his assets. "He is a Cosmic Force, so he is bred to be fast," he said. "Cosmic Force is doing a great job at stud. He is producing really precocious, fast types and this is another one, so full credit to Newgate and the team." SKY RACING WORLD

2025 Denise's Joy Stakes: David Payne saddles up Shohisha

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Shohisha, a winner of two of her five starts, went for a short break after finishing fifth in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes back in February. It was a race that won by boom filly Lady Shenandoah with 2024 Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot and subsequent stakes winners Lilac and Lazzura all finishing around her. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. 'Her form looks good now. 'If she shapes up, we can have a look at those Group races for fillies up in Queensland.' Shohisha is set to be one of the leading chances in the Denise's Joy with Tom Sherry booked to ride. Payne has given her a tick off trial and the Rosehill conditioner expects it will have Shohisha ready to fire first-up from a break. 'She could have won that tick over trial if she had to,' Payne said. 'I was very happy with that trial so she is going really well.' Payne will have runners on both cards of the two-day carnival with unraced gelding Cosmonaut set to debut in the $200,000 Inglis Challenge (1100m) on Friday. Cosmonaut is a son of Cosmic Force and was a modest $17,000 purchase at last year's Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale. He has been given three trials over two preparation to tune up for his first start, finishing 4th in his most recent hit out over 1050m at Rosehill Gardens. 'It's good money, I don't know if he is good enough for it at this stage but you have to take a chance,' Payne said. 'We will see how he goes and assess him afterwards. 'It wasn't a bad trial. I don't think it's the hardest field so we will run him there and see how he goes.'
