Tayla Broad went from the most ‘overdressed person in the room' to ‘effortless chic'
This story is part of the June 22 edition of Sunday Life. See all 15 stories. Each week, we quiz a prominent person about their style and the inspiration behind it. Ahead, Presenter Tayla Broad. How would you describe your style? If you'd asked me a couple of years ago, I'd have said that I love experimenting with fashion, and I'm often the most overdressed person in the room. However, since having a child, it's effortless chic. I have a capsule wardrobe of mostly dark-coloured tops and pants suitable for chasing a dirty child around. What's the oldest thing in your wardrobe? An old winter coat I purchased on a school trip to the snow over a decade ago. And the most recent addition? A pair of Tony Bianco 'Lush' heels that I'm excited to wear with a mini dress. What would you wear … on a first date? Black Henne 'Valentina' jeans with a sheer Maj'r off-the-shoulder top, a Lem pleather coat and black, pointed kitten heels. … on the plane? Comfy, oversized wide-leg jeans with a Cotton On singlet, blazer, sneakers and my Oroton travel bag. … on the red carpet? A couture gown by Melbourne designer Oglia-Loro who does a lot of my red-carpet looks. Sam [Oglialoro] also made my wedding gown and reception dress. What's your favourite fashion era? I like now, especially for the way we're moving away from fast fashion and investing more in long-term pieces. Who are your favourite designers? Henne for well-made everyday pieces and Venroy for holidays and summer staples. I also love Camilla and Marc, Viktoria & Woods, Effie Kats, Natalie Rolt, and Paul Vasileff. What's your fragrance of choice? My mum gave me a bottle of Chanel 'Coco Mademoiselle' for my hens party. I wore it for my wedding, and I love it so much, I haven't stopped since.

Beat the Winter Chill This Year with the Kmart Oodie Alternative
By Elliot Nash - News Published: 18 June 2025 Share Copy Link Readtime: 3 min Every product is carefully selected by our editors and experts. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Learn more. For more information on how we test products, click here. Years after the Oodie invaded our living rooms and made working from home all the more bearable, the snug pullover top is still reigning supreme. Davie Fogarty's wearable blanket is one of the true success stories of Australian ingenuity, spawning a series of knock-offs, substitutes and stand-ins, however, none are as impressive as the Kmart Oodie alternative. Despite not being quite as fluffy or snug as the Original Oodie (it's still the top pick in our books), the Kmart variant had a magnetic allure, thanks to an incredible price of AUD$29, a far more digestible bite than the AUD$89 needed to nab a genuine Oodie. Sadly, just like an ice-cold wheat beer on a scorching summer day, the Kmart version was gone too soon, leaving many empty-handed and, presumably, a little chilly. But like the prodigal son, it's returned, boasting an upgrade. RELATED: These are the best hoodies for men right now when you need to go outside. Kmart Pull Over Gown | Image: Kmart Pull Over Gown – The Kmart Oodie Alternative The revamped Kmart Pull Over Gown, yours for just AUD$35, wraps you in a soft borg fleece fabric with an even cosier fleece lining. It's a bit shorter than its predecessor, hovering above the knee rather than touching mid-calf. However, with the camouflage patterns, you might have a bit of trouble spotting the difference. But let's get down to the nuts and bolts. This pullover still has that sought-after oversized fit, kangaroo pocket, and the all-important hood. One Kmart reviewer summed it up as 'Very easy to pop on & keep warm.' Now, how does it stack up against the Oodie? Although they might appear like two peas in a pod, the Kmart version is less thick and skews more towards an oversized hoodie than a 'wearable blanket'. It's also primarily women's sleepwear, unlike the Oodie, which is unisex. We're hoping Kmart will unveil more men's versions soon. That said, the Kmart Pull Over Gown compensates for its shortcomings with its price. Let's be real; our wallets could do with a breather. If your taste leans towards Harry Potter, The Mandalorian, or Frozen, you might be drawn to Oodie's extensive range of designs, with popular koala, avocado, and sloth prints now going for a cool AUD$89. Kmart does offer a Disney License Pull Over Gown, but with its all-pink design, it's more targeted at the ladies, much like the Hooded Teddy Nightie. Cotton On Snugget Adults Oversized Hoodie | Image: Cotton On Other Oodie Alternatives Luckily, there's no shortage of affordable Oodie alternatives out there in the wild. The flock is growing, folks. Big W's oversized hoodie is a player in the game, with a starting price that's easy on the pocket at just AUD$35. Not to be outdone, Cotton On offers a take with the Snugget Adults Oversized Hoodie at AUD$60, but keep an eye out because it drops as low as AUD$30 during sales. Lastly, don't forget to tip your hat to The Comfy, the OG of hooded blankets, which has been on the scene since 2017. For AUD$70, you can snag this veteran from Amazon Australia. So, a whole line-up of contenders are ready and waiting to keep you cosy without emptying your wallet. Regardless of the name on the tag – be it 'oversized hoodies' or 'hooded blankets', the aim is comfort. Whether you're planning a gaming night, a Netflix marathon, or just chilling out, there's an Oodie dupe that'll suit your style and budget. But remember to act fast. These comforting cocoons are notorious for flying off the shelves.

Fashion fans are all saying the same thing about bizarre 'distressed' jeans on sale for £40
A pair of jeans that retails at £40 (AU$59.99) has taken the internet by storm - for all the wrong reasons. The 'distressed' jeans, on sale at Australian clothing brand Cotton On, are available in different shades of blue denim but feature the same washed-out dirty look. However, fashion lovers have taken issue with the design of the jeans and say that, rather than looking 'washed out', the trousers instead look like they have been stained with human faeces. Shoppers went into a frenzy when TikToker Adele, who goes by @adelesspammo, posted the clip, racking up a staggering 1.7 million views and tens of thousands of likes. She stumbled upon the jeans while out shopping and immediately took a video, which she captioned: 'What was Cotton On thinking?' The clip shows the pair of blue jeans on a display in-store, stained with suspicious-looking brown dye down the front and back. Adele wrote: 'Someone had an accident', and hundreds of commenters were similarly taken aback by the offbeat styling. The jeans, pictured here as they are advertised online, seem to look more offensive in person, according to commenters One person joked: 'No way people who design stuff like this have a job and I don't.' And another said: 'Yes, because we absolutely want to look like we just had explosive diarrhoea in our jeans…' Many noted the sloppy design choice, which they did not think warranted the £40 price tag. 'So, you're telling me I could have accidentally slipped in mud, put my jeans on that pile, and got money for it,' wrote one incredulous user. Commenters joked that the jeans were 'pre s**t-in' so that lucky wearers don't have to go to the trouble of doing it themselves. One said: 'PRE POOPED JEANS!!! I've been looking for something like this for so long, because it gets sooooo tiring having to do it myself for every outfit.' And another wrote: 'To be fair, walking around with actual s**t on your jeans would be pretty uncomfortable, so this is a better option.' Eagle-eyed fashion fans noticed that the unusual jeans are likely a 'dupe' or an imitation of a similar pair by luxury fashion house Acne Studios. The original 'distressed' jeans are sold by Acne for a whopping £600, and feature similar brown shading around the knees. One mother wrote: 'As if I would be paying money for that when my kids can do that to my clothes and furniture for free.' However, many observed that the version of the jeans advertised online appear much less offensive, and it is the in-person colouring which took them by surprise. 'The worst part is they look completely different online and actually nice. I was shocked when I saw them in the store,' one person commented. Even a former Cotton On employee weighed in, saying: 'I used to work at Cotton On and spent every shift trying not to laugh at some of the s**t we were selling.' One user wrote: 'When I say I want jeans that look a bit dirty this is NOT what I mean.' It seems even would-be customers looking for a more relaxed and dishevelled look are not a fan of Cotton On's latest venture. Fashion Stylist Donny Galella told that such imitations are cropping up more frequently in the fashion world. Incredulous fashion fans rushed to the comments to express their shock at the offbeat design 'Acne is definitely one of the world's hottest brands,' he said. 'And we are living in dupe culture world.' 'But given the cost of living crisis, many people don't have a spare $1400 laying around for a dirty looking pair of jeans, especially for a "trend" style pair of jeans that will have a short shelf life.' FEMAIL has contacted Cotton On for comment.
