Olympic champion Kyle Snyder to focus on ‘Lord Jesus and family' after prostitution arrest

Olympic wrestling champion Kyle Snyder has made his first public statement since his arrest in an Ohio prostitution sting last week. In a post on X on Wednesday, the 29-year-old said he would lean on his faith and family, but did not directly address his arrest. 'I want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and support. My focus is on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not conclusion of my journey. 1 Peter 4:17-18,' he wrote. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?' Snyder's arrest came after during a police operation aimed at reducing prostitution in Columbus, Ohio. Snyder was arrested in a hotel room for engaging in prostitution. He was released from custody at the scene, and is due to appear in court on 19 May. Columbus police spokesperson Caitlyn McIntosh said officers had posted online ads to 'solicit others to engage in sexual activity for hire'. Police said a man later identified as Snyder had replied to one of the postings and arranged to meet at a local hotel. Once there he paid money to an undercover officer and requested sexual services. Police said 15 other men were caught in the sting. Snyder is considered one of the best wrestlers of his generation, and was a college star at Ohio State, located in Columbus. While still at college he won an Olympic gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In college, he won three straight NCAA heavyweight titles between 2016 and 2018, and was later inducted into Ohio State's athletics hall of fame. He also won an Olympic silver at the Tokyo Games in 2021 along with three world championship titles. This month Snyder signed up to Hulk Hogan's Real American Freestyle wrestling league, which is due to start in August. Snyder has spoken of the importance of his faith in the past. '[God has] given me his spirit who lives inside me so I can live this way. Any accolades I acquire in this life are meaningless, but the growth I experience spiritually is what means the most,' Snyder told Sports Spectrum Magazine in 2019.

Olympic gold medalist who served on Trump's council for fitness arrested in prostitution sting

An Olympic gold medalist who once served on President Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition was arrested as part of a prostitution sting in Ohio, authorities said. Wrestler Kyle Snyder, 29, was one of 16 men charged during a Friday undercover operation, Columbus police Sgt. Joe Albert told The Columbus Dispatch. Police had shared fake ads for escort services online — and Snyder took the bait, agreeing to meet at a nearby hotel, Albert said. The former Olympian and Ohio State University wrestler gave an undercover cop cash and asked for oral sex. He was arrested for engaging in prostitution and released from the scene. Fifteen other men were also charged during the sting, police said. Snyder won three straight NCAA heavyweight championships for Ohio State before taking home a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He won the silver medal at the 2021 games in Tokyo and placed fourth at the 2024 games in Paris. He was also nominated by Trump in 2018 to serve on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. 'Honored to be selected by @Potus to work with @fitnessgov on increasing youth participation in sports,' Snyder wrote at the time. Last week, the wrestler signed with the Real American Freestyle wrestling league, led by wrestling icon Hulk Hogan. The new league is set to hold its first event in Cleveland on August 30. Snyder is due in court on May 19.

World Series champ Johnny Damon unconcerned with fan flak over Trump support: 'I know what's right'

Johnny Damon, a two-time World Series champion who played for the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox among other teams, said Monday he was unconcerned with any flak he may receive over his support of President Donald Trump. Damon appeared on OutKick's "The Ricky Cobb Show" and talked about when he first struck up a relationship with Trump – before he ran for president. Cobb asked Damon if he heard any tough talk from fans about his support for the business mogul. "I'm not too concerned about it because I know what's right," Damon said. "I know illegal immigrants who are criminals should not be in our country. I know it should be a fair playing field out there – that's why the tariffs are coming. "I mentioned to my friends years ago, I was like, 'Is Ukraine ever going to pay us back? I mean we're giving them so much money' and everybody kinda said, 'Yeah, I don't know how that works out.' Well, as we see on the world stage right now, President Trump is trying to make peace with Russia and Ukraine … and there's a lot of war going on that nobody ever wants to have." The former outfielder said he was trying to do what he believed was right for his children. "So, I may catch grief but I'm not too concerned about it," he said. "I'm a 51-year-old man with eight kids. I worry about my kids' future. I want to make sure they live in a world that's safe. "I know I have a lot of friends on the right, a lot of friends on the left and a lot of them agree with Trump's policies. They just don't like how strong of a boss he is and our country needed something like that." Damon endorsed Trump's first presidential election run in 2016. In 2020, Trump appointed Damon to serve on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. Damon joined fellow Yankees World Series champion Mariano Rivera, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, UFC fighter Colby Covington and Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Vincent.
