Cwmbran terror case: Police look to dispel 'mistruths'
A 17-year-old white boy from the Cwmbran area was arrested and later charged for offences under the Terrorism Act before appearing at the Central Criminal Court on Friday 4 July. The boy pleaded guilty to an offence of possessing information that could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000. He was remanded into custody whilst pre-sentence reports and psychiatric reports are completed will be sentenced at a later date, which is yet to be set. Counter Terrorism Policing Wales are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation. Temporary Chief Superintendent Jason White spoke out over speculation on social media. He said: 'We understand that reports of this nature will be concerning for many members of our communities. 'Our partners at Counter Terrorism Police Wales have acted swiftly to make this arrest and obtain a charging decision. 'Following his appearance in court last week, there are some mistruths circulating on social media which we'd like to correct. 'The boy at the centre of this investigation is a white male and he is currently on remand in custody awaiting sentence.' The police have also asked the public to consider the tone of their language and for people to think twice about what they might read online while looking for trusted voices within our communities. Superintendent White added: 'Investigations of this nature are exceptionally rare in Gwent, but we understand the impact that reports of offences of this type can have on our residents. 'If you do have concerns, then you can call us on 101, send us a message on social media, make a report via our website or speak to one of our officers if you see them. 'We will continue to work closely with our colleagues from Counter Terrorism Policing to ensure the safety of our communities.'

A 17-year-old white boy has been arrested and charged with terror offences. Police released the ethnicity of the suspect in a bid to dispel fake news onsocial media around the arrest in Gwent, south Wales. Boy, 17, from Cwmbran pleads guilty to terrorism offence
He admitted the charge at the Old Bailey in London. A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Police Wales said: "On Friday 4th July 2025 a 17-year-old male from the Cwmbran area, appeared at the Central Criminal Court after pleading guilty of an offence of possessing information that could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000. 'The male has been remanded into custody whilst pre-sentence reports and psychiatric reports are completed. 'No date has been set for sentencing at this time."
