(Photo: IANS) Nita Ambani's Mumbai Indians may have failed to reach the IPL 2025 final this year but there is some good news for the owner after the end of the T20 league last month. Star player from Hardik Pandya's MI is in red-hot form in County Championships currently. We are talking about MI star batter Tilak Varma, who notched up his second hundred for Hampshire, in just his third match for the County side. Tilak hammered 112 off 256 balls with 2 sixes and 13 fours to guide Hampshire to relative safety against Nottinghamshire in their ongoing County Championship Division One match. Batting first Nottinghamshire posted a massive 578 for 8 declared with Lyndon James scoring an unbeaten 203 off 236 balls and Jack Haynes notching up a century. In reply, Hampshire were 367 for 6 thanks to Tilak's brilliant century. The MI and Team India batter was particularly severe of Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Abbas, not letting him settle into any groove. It was Tilak Varma's 7th hundred in just 20 first-class matches with five fifties. He has an impressive average of 52.11. Tilak has an equally impressive record in T20I cricket for Team India, averaging 49.93 from 25 matches with 749 runs and 2 back-to-back centuries against South Africa to his name. Bad news for Team India, star player from Kavya Maran's SRH was replacing Rishabh Pant but…

Ishan Kishan turned out for Kavya Maran's SRH in IPL 2025 season. (Photo: IANS) Team India is dealing with a spate of injuries to their top cricketer. The latest to join the list is India vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who is reportedly out for six weeks due to a fractured toe. Pant injured his toe on Day 1 of the 4th Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday. The Indian vice-captain had retired hurt on 37 and is unlikely to play any more part in the fourth Test. According to a report in Indian Express newspaper, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Jharkhand wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan had been called up by the BCCI selectors to join the Indian squad in England ahead of fifth Test next week. But there is more bad news for BCCI and the Indian team as even Ishan Kishan is reportedly injured. Kishan had turned out for Nottinghamshire in a couple of matches in County Championships this year but he has got injured in an accident. Ishan Kishan injured in a scooty accident According to a report in TOI, Kishan has got injured in an accident on a scooty. 'Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty,' a source close to Ishan Kishan informed TOI. 'The selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle,' the source added in the report. Ishan had an impressive run with Nottinghamshire this season. He notched up scores of 87 and 77 against Yorkshire and Somerset in the two matches and was also impressive behind the stumps. The SRH wicketkeeper is now back at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover from his injuries. Ishan Kishan scored his maiden IPL century this year The 27-year-old was signed up by Kavya Maran's Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Ishan justified the faith of SRH, scoring his maiden IPL century in their opening game of the season against Rajasthan Royals. However, he trailed off for most of the remaining season, apart from scoring 94 not out against IPL 2025 champions RCB towards the end of the season. Kishan ended up with 354 runs from 14 matches at a strike-rate of over 152. Rishabh Pant available to 'bat as per team requirements' Meanwhile, the BCCI have announced that injured Rishabh Pant will be available to bat for Team India in the fourth Test at Manchester as per the 'requirements' of the team. 'Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements,' a BCCI statement read.

'We're waiting to sit down with John': Signs point to Cleary remaining as Cork manager

Cork GAA chiefs are confident of having the Cork senior football manager's position 'sorted' by the August County Board meeting, with all indications pointing towards John Cleary remaining in the job. Cleary's three-year term concluded on the evening of Cork's All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final defeat to Dublin, but recent dispatches suggest he is keen to continue for a fourth season, albeit with a shaken-up backroom team. 'We hope to be in a position by August 5, at our next county board meeting, to have sorted the senior football. We will be speaking to John and hopefully we will have that sorted by then,' said Cork GAA chairman Pat Horgan. When pushed by the Irish Examiner if this was confirmation that Cleary was staying put, Horgan replied 'the bottom line is that we are waiting to sit down with John, and once we sit down with John we will then be in a position to finalise it, hopefully'. Ray O'Mahony's two-year term as U20 football manager concluded with their comprehensive Munster final defeat to Kerry and so an appointments committee is currently dealing with that vacancy. Similar to Cleary, Pat Ryan's three-year term as Cork senior hurling manager came to a close on Sunday evening. Horgan insisted the proximity to Sunday means that position will not be moved on for another couple of weeks. 'We are all tremendously disappointed after the weekend but now is a time for reflection and we'll leave time for reflection. We'll then sit down and talk to everybody concerned. 'In my few words at the banquet, what I said is 35 minutes should not define a team or a group. The one point I made at the banquet very forcibly was that Sunday was our seventh championship game and every single one of them was sold out. That is something the GAA and business community have benefited from considerably. And we are very grateful to our fans for getting behind the team. We are also very grateful to the people who put their hands into their pockets to support the whole thing.' Horgan said the executive both understood and supported the decision of the Cork senior hurling management and players to abandon the traditional homecoming. 'The thing about the homecoming is that we had never actually put it in place until we saw what the result was. We respected their wishes that they just didn't want to go through with it, and we said that is fine. I think that is fair and reasonable. 'We had it last year, and I think they deserved a bit of space to themselves. I just think it was going to be so, so difficult for everybody involved. We understood.' The county board chairman did not give clarity on when the review recommendations of those who were part of the Cork football 2019-24 plan would be executed and who had been charged with executing them. They included a review of Divisions' and Colleges' participation in County Championships, continued focus on the senior development squad, expansion of training hubs across the county, and reform and restructuring of the county coaching committee. 'We have a meeting tonight [Tuesday] on nothing else but football and how we can improve football, and I've no doubt we will have lots of discussions between here and the end of the year on football and how we can make progress.'

The trio who will represent Cheshire in the county finals

THREE Northwich golfers will represent Cheshire in the County Champion of Champions finals at Woodhall Spa later this year. This is on the back of Sandiway Golf Club's Jack Duncalf, Oscar Craig and Cameron Cross winning the team event at the 99th Cheshire Golf Men's County Championships. The team's score of 886 at Wilmslow Golf Club put them ahead of Stockport's Ashley Siddle, Fraser McLeod and Luke Yardley, 898, and the third-placed home team of Alfie Oakes, James Hey and Piers Johnson, 912. Craig, who had his stepfather and golf superstar Tommy Fleetwood as his caddy, finished runner-up to Astbury's overall winner Sam Johnson in the colts (age 22 and under) category. Jake Hibbert, representing Warrington Golf Club but who also has history with Delamere Forest Golf Club, was looking to emulate Jack Jones (1959, 60, 61) in winning a third straight championship, and until the middle of the final round he remained in contention. The competition was, however, dominated by Johnson who led throughout. He finished with an excellent score of 279 from Jon Beesley (The Mere) 286, and Hibbert, 289, while Craig was fourth.
