San Diego Wave sign 21-year-old French midfielder Laurina Fazer through 2027
The San Diego Wave continue to make summer transfer moves with the signing of French international midfielder Laurina Fazer. Upon receipt of her P-1 visa, the 21-year-old will join the Wave from Paris Saint-Germain, where she began her professional career at age 16. Fazer will occupy one of the Wave's international roster slots. 'Laurina is a highly intelligent and composed midfielder who brings a high level of technical excellence,' Wave sporting director and general manager Camille Ashton said in a statement. Les Bleus starlet in SD 🌊 Bienvenue à Wave FC, @LaurinaFazer! — San Diego Wave FC (@sandiegowavefc) July 29, 2025 With PSG, Fazer marked her November 2020 debut with two assists in the team's 14-0 victory over Issy. The following year, she helped PSG claim its first-ever Division 1 Féminine title, as well as Coupe de France trophies in 2022 and 2024. At the international level, Fazer has been a fixture at Clairefontaine (the academy of the French Football Federation), having played at the U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-23 levels. In 2022, she captained the U-20s at the 2022 U-20 World Cup, where France lost to Japan on penalties in the quarterfinals. Advertisement That same year, Fazer earned a call-up to the senior French women's national team at 18, playing her first match in April 2023 in a friendly against Colombia, which France won 5-2. She made enough of an impression at the senior level to make the roster for the 2023 World Cup in Australia, where France again lost in the quarterfinals. Since then, Fazer has been spending time with the U-23 national team, most recently at the 2025 Sud Ladies Cup held in the South of France. Fazer was the skipper, contributing a brace and an assist in the French team's victory over Japan's U-19 side and earning Best Player honors. 'She's played at the highest level in Europe with PSG, won major trophies, and shown real leadership as a captain for France's youth national teams,' Ashton added. 'Her ability to read the game and progress play forward makes her an exciting addition to our group.' Fazer is the second young international signing in the past week for the Wave, who sit third in the National Women's Soccer League (NSWL) table as teams prepare for the second half of the season following a mid-year break for continental tournaments. On July 24, the San Diego club signed 20-year-old Brazilian forward Dudinha, who's currently competing in the Copa América Feminina in Ecuador. Fazer is also the fourth French player to sign with the Wave, following midfielder Kenza Dali, defender Perle Morroni and winger Delphine Cascarino, who recently competed with France at the 2025 European championship in Switzerland, where Germany knocked out Les Bleues in the quarterfinal. All four French players have had significant minutes on the national team (Fazer and Dali were on the 2023 World Cup roster); that familiarity could also smooth the 21-year-old's transition to the league. As the Wave aim to secure their spot in the playoffs during the season's second half, they will likely be looking to acclimate their newer, young player signings like Fazer and Dudinha to the fast-paced, direct and aggressive play of the league. The recent departure of preeminent forward María Sánchez in June to Tigres in Liga MX Feminil, however, could result in a shuffling of the bench and create opportunities for Dudinha to slot in earlier. Everton make surprise £31m offer for Chelsea and Liverpool transfer target
Everton have reportedly made a surprise offer worth €36m (£31.5m) plus add-ons to sign Chelsea and Liverpool transfer target Malick Fofana. The Toffees could reach an agreement with French club Lyon 'fairly quickly' in a stunning transfer twist, French outlet L'Equipe reported on Saturday. Everton and Lyon are currently in club-to-club talks while David Moyes' side are also discussing personal terms with Fofana ahead of a possible move. Liverpool and Chelsea were both linked with a deal for the 20-year-old winger earlier in the summer transfer window. Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Fulham had also expressed an interest in Fofana while Bayern Munich, Napoli and RB Leipzig were keen on him too. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. Chelsea had even made a verbal enquiry for the Belgium international – but it appears he could be heading to Everton instead. Fofana has played a total of 64 games for Lyon to date, conjuring up 15 goals and seven assists for the Ligue 1 side. The Belgian helped Lyon reach the Coupe de France final in 2024 and has established himself as one of the brightest young talents across Europe. Fofana joined Lyon from Gent in January 2024, with the French club paying a fee of €17 million plus €5 million in add-ons to sign the player. It's thought that Lyon want to secure at least €40m (£35m) in fixed terms to allow Fofana to join Everton. Everton are keen to wrap up the deal as soon as possible due to the interest from other Premier League teams. Fofana could become Everton's third summer signing after deals for Villarreal forward Thierno Barry and AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers. Carlos Alcaraz has also joined Everton on a permanent deal after a spell on loan from Flamengo last season. More Trending Everton are not done there, though, with the Merseyside club progressing in a move to sign Bayern Munich defender Adam Aznou too. The Toffees are set for a new era in the 2025-26 campaign after moving into their brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Everton face a trip to promoted side Leeds United on August 18 in their opening game of the upcoming Premier League season. Message from the President of Paris Saint-Germain
As the most unforgettable season draws to a close, I wanted to say to the whole Paris Saint-Germain family, Thank You. As we look back today, it is easy to forget how demanding the season has been, across so many competitions and countries, at the highest levels and with the hardest groups and pathways. But through our collective spirit – fighting every day for the Club and each other – this season has been the greatest in the history of Paris Saint-Germain. Winning our magnificent first UEFA Champions League trophy – with the second youngest team on Champions League record, the youngest in Paris Saint-Germain's history, and playing in a way that endeared commentators all over the world – will be forever marked in the annals of football. Even more so alongside our Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions titles – together with great achievements in handball, judo, women's football, youth football, eSports, and 26 athletes at the Paris Olympics. In the USA this past month, of course, we wanted to finish as World Champions following another memorable tournament campaign beating some of the biggest clubs in the world, but after such a long season we can be so very proud of what our players and staff have achieved as runners-up on the global stage. Everyone has contributed to all these successes – all our Presidents, players, managers, sports directors and staff of the past; and most particularly today I thank our amazing football department and employees, our partners, our incredible coach Luis Enrique, and our soldiers – our players – who defend our institution and fight for the Club every day and every match, both on and off the pitch. I will also never forget our fans: in Paris, across the whole of France, and internationally – we have the best fans in the world. They have followed the team everywhere – every city and country we go, in the stadiums and streets. They never stopped singing, never stopped believing, and pushed the team – winning or losing – to the very last minute. I am so proud our fans are an example to all fans – and the celebrations we all shared on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and in the Parc des Princes in June will remain with us forever. However, our project is not just about winning today or tomorrow or short term success – we are building something strong and enduring for the long term. We have so much more to do, and as the song goes 'après tant d'années de galères et de combats' we will continue to work harder every day. Always remaining humble, always shaped by the collective where the super-star is the team – and with sporting values and pride in the colours of Paris Saint-Germain and representing France in our hearts. Thank you for your support over this most memorable season, and here's to many more successes ahead for Paris Saint-Germain. Ici C'est Paris Nasser Al-Khelaïfi,

Trump marks anniversary of assassination attempt at FIFA Club World Cup final
by Naharnet Newsdesk 14 July 2025, 17:51 President Donald Trump on Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of a failed attempt on his life, joining family, friends and close advisers to witness Chelsea's dominating FIFA Club World Cup final victory over Paris Saint-Germain. The president joined the players on the field after the match to congratulate the tournament's outstanding performers, present PSG players with their runner-up medals and hand Chelsea their championship trophy. "It was an upset today I guess," Trump told reporters after flying back to Washington following Chelsea's victory. "But it was a great match." Trump and first lady Melania Trump were greeted with cheers as they arrived at MetLife Stadium just ahead of the pre-match performance by musical artists Robbie Williams and Laura Pausini. And the president got a smattering of boos when he was briefly shown on the stadium's mega-screen. The president waved to the crowd and pumped his fist as he and his entourage arrived at the stadium luxury box, where they took in the match with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his wife, Leena Al Ashqar. Other guests spotted in the president's suite included Attorney General Pam Bondi, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, NFL great Tom Brady and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. MetLife in a little over a year will host the 2026 World Cup final. Chelsea, of the English Premier League, spoiled PSG's bid to win its fourth major title of the season, exactly 100 days after PSG clinched Ligue 1 on April 5. The Paris team added the Coupe de France by beating Reims 3-0 on May 24, then romped over Inter Milan seven days later in the Champions League Final. Chelsea dominated throughout, racing out to a 3-0 lead in the first half behind a pair of goals from Cole Palmer and one from João Pedro. Sunday's match fell on the first anniversary of the assassination attempt Trump survived in Butler, Pennsylvania, while campaigning for president. "It remains my firm conviction that God alone saved me that day for a righteous purpose: to restore our beloved Republic to greatness and to rescue our Nation from those who seek its ruin," Trump said in a statement released Sunday night after he returned to Washington. He also hailed doctors, first responders and rallygoers who helped guide other attendees to safety, saying, "These men and women arrived at the rally grounds as ordinary Americans, but left as heroes." The international sporting match also offered an opportunity for Trump and aides to huddle with Qatari government officials. Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, in a brief exchange with reporters ahead of the match, said he remained "hopeful" about Gaza ceasefire and hostage negotiations. Witkoff, who joined Trump for the tournament finale, appeared to nod affirmatively when asked by reporters if he planned on meeting with senior officials from the Gulf nation of Qatar, which is serving as an intermediary with Hamas in the talks, during the match. "I'll be meeting them," Witkoff said. The president, who has a warm relationship with Infantino, has said he plans to attend multiple matches of the World Cup tournament next year that will be held at stadiums in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Preparations for next year's big soccer moment for North America are well underway. But it comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and its neighbors over proposed tariffs, immigration and Trump repeatedly saying that Canada should become the 51st state. Trump earlier this year said the tensions will only make the tournament more "exciting." " Tension's a good thing, " Trump said. Sporting events have made up the bulk of Trump's trips in the U.S. since taking office this year. In addition to his visit this weekend to the soccer tournament, he's attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500 in Florida, UFC fights in Miami and Newark, New Jersey, and the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia.
