Middle Room: Bengaluru rewinds on a turntable
Oasis' 'Don't Look Back in Anger', which could well be July's theme song, what with the fractious Gallagher brothers burying the hatchet for an epic concert tour, washes over the Middle Room. The swish listening room recently opened at Courtyard, that meeting ground of ideas and experiences on Double Road in Bengaluru. The brainchild of Akhila Srinivas, the force behind Courtyard, Middle Room draws inspiration from audiophile bars around the world, which in turn take their inspiration from Japanese jazz kissas where music was not in the background but front and centre. Akhila, a true-blue Bangalorean, says she wanted to bring back the vibe of old Bengaluru's pubs (think Pecos and Purple Haze), where rock music, raucous sing-alongs and beer drove the party. While that sense of community and writing song requests on tatty napkins does not perfectly align with the hushed reverence of jazz kissas and the ₹500 listening fee, one can perhaps give the Middle Room a chance to find its groove within these parallel tracks. The intimate space seats 33 and operates on a time-slot booking system. We chose the 6.30 pm slot and thanks to Bengaluru's legendary traffic, staggered in by 7 pm. There are some cons to being in the middle of everything, which is what gave the listening room its name according to Akhila. Wood and red accents lend the Middle Room a warm yet edgy aesthetic. The fact that music is the heart of the Middle Room is underlined by the sleek turntable (Technics Sl 1200 mk7 from Tokyo) and a wall of vinyl of over a 1,000 LPs. Sandeep Raman, from the erstwhile Record Room (which Akhila says was more a restaurant with vinyl), presides over the records and some cassettes, playing marvellous jazz records that immediately transport you to neon-lit smoky alleys, and a slinky pair of stockinged legs unwinding from a muscle car to a wailing sax. Murthovic, music producer and DJ, who has burnt the floor in India (Echoes Of Earth, Satellite Beachside, NH7 Weekender) and abroad, and artist and creative director, Avinash, travelled the world and the seven seas, to build up the vinyl library, the equipment and acoustics. While music is the food of love at Middle Room, there is a short selection of small and large plates courtesy of Chef Adithya Kidambi. The drinks are shepherded by the grace of bar demon, Arijit Bose, the brains behind Spirit Forward and Courtyard's Wine in Progress in Bengaluru as well as Goa's Bar Tesouro. While the drinks menu is beer forward, offering Kölsch and stout from Mannheim, miso chilli sour (a Great State Ale collaboration), and Geist's Kamacitra, as well as the dreaded beer cocktails, I choose to be contrary and go for Prosecco. As we look at the cute little Star Wars action figures and the vinyls, which are a mix of old and new presses, we decide on small eats. I try the pumpkin rissois, which is an interesting marriage of curried roasted pumpkin and whipped goat cheese. The meaty flavour takes some getting used to. The char-grilled broccoli follows where the lime and green chili emulsion gives a gentle jolt of joy. My friend started with a birria dosa, which is the Middle Room's variation on the birria taco, where the crisp little dosa stands in for the taco. Stuffed with slow cooked goat leg, it made for a comfort bite. Feeling adventurous, we chose the Naga pork next. Though not at all hot (where were the ghost chillies of yesteryear), it featured lean and flavourful meat. Oh and even though Middle Room does not take requests, Sandeep was kind enough to play 'Dont Look Back in Anger,' and in place of a rowdy singalong, we quietly mouthed, 'Please don't put your life in the hands/ Of a rock 'n' roll band/ Who'll throw it all away… Middle Room is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Cryptocurrency Live News & Updates : Polygon Surpasses Ethereum in NFT Sales
04 Jul 2025 | 11:45:12 PM IST Polygon's price has plummeted this year, nearing its lowest point, but it recently outperformed Ethereum in weekly NFT sales, indicating a potential breakout. Polygon has experienced a significant decline in price, dropping over 76% this year, yet it has recently surpassed Ethereum in weekly NFT sales, with a 52% increase to $24 million. This surge is largely attributed to the Courtyard platform. Meanwhile, Ethereum celebrates its 10th anniversary amid rising competition from blockchains like Solana and Aptos, as it focuses on enhancing interoperability and community building. In a different arena, Trump-linked World Liberty Financial is undergoing a governance vote to determine the tradability of its WLFI token, a crucial test of its decentralization commitment. Lastly, NEAR Protocol faced a 5% decline despite the launch of Bitwise's NEAR Staking ETP, which aims to boost institutional interest. As the crypto market navigates these developments, the interplay between price movements, governance decisions, and technological advancements remains pivotal. Show more

Fresh Beats, Family Fun and Summer Vibes Take Over Walt Disney World Resort
This summer, Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is turning up the fun with the debut of Cool Kid Summer, an enchanting celebration filled with pop-up entertainment, interactive activities and family-friendly surprises across its theme parks, water parks and hotels. Now through September 1, guests can catch added character experiences, dynamic games, lively dance parties, two new stage shows, a nighttime parade premiering in July and more. Our family visited during opening week of Cool Kid Summer, and I can confirm that it's the can't-miss event of the season. Here's what to expect - and how to join the party. At Disney's Magic Kingdom, my children (ages 5, 5 and 8) danced with Pluto and played midway-style games at Big Top Bash at Storybook Circus, then headed to Tomorrowland for Galactic Blast, a space-themed DJ dance party with Stitch. At Hollywood Studios, we caught two new stage shows, followed by the interactive "Get Animated at Animation Courtyard," featuring jump rope performers, magicians, games, crafts and an indoor DJ dance party with Mickey Mouse and Disney Junior friends. At EPCOT, we spent a fun-filled morning at the all-new dance-and-play experience GoofyCore. And at Animal Kingdom, the kids earned limited-time Wilderness Explorers badges and participated in a singalong at Discovery Island. SheBuysTravel tip: For even more fun, stay at Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort or Disney's Wilderness Lodge - all of which are offering character visits, family games, music and more as part of the event. One of our family's favorite Cool Kid Summer spots is the brand-new GoofyCore activation at EPCOT, where CommuniCore Hall has been transformed into an immersive indoor play experience featuring a DJ dance party and games with Goofy and his friends. The memories created here are priceless; this is an event where Goofy made time to dance, play games and build forts with my kids. The two new stage shows at Hollywood Studios are also terrific: "The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure" and "Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After" are colorful, high-energy and perfect for all ages. SheBuysTravel tip: Make sure to pick up a Cool Kid Summer guide for each of the parks, as well as a limited-edition Magic Shot photo guide with a map to all the best spots for fun family photos. An interactive map can also be found in the My Disney Experience app. One major addition to Walt Disney World 's programming will be the dazzling nighttime parade "Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away," set to premiere July 20 at Disney's Magic Kingdom. The first evening parade at the park since 2016, the parade will feature a majestic musical score, a procession of glittering floats and beloved Disney characters. Inspired by the classic Main Street Electrical Parade, guests will be treated to enchanting moments from Disney and Pixar animated films such as Moana, Encanto, Frozen and Peter Pan. Mickey and Minnie Mouse will debut sparkling costumes for the parade, with new themed treats and commemorative merchandise available for purchase. Some of the most memorable moments during Cool Kid Summer are the unexpected ones - the impromptu dance parties, surprise character pop-ins and themed sequences that appear out of nowhere. On our visit, a spontaneous banshee parade through Pandora at Animal Kingdom had our kids clapping and cheering alongside cast members, while at Magic Kingdom, we stumbled upon Rapunzel and Flynn Rider dancing in the streets. SheBuysTravel tip: Leave room in your days at the theme parks (and even resorts) to linger and explore. Disney has packed this seasonal event with moments meant to surprise and delight. Planning a visit? There are several new ways to stretch your vacation budget during Cool Kid Summer: 50% Off Kids Tickets: Save on multi-day kids' park tickets (ages 3–9) for visits through September Three-Park Ticket: Visit EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom for as low as $89 per day (through Sept. 22).Disney Resort Hotel Deals: Save up to 30 percent on select resort stays from August 1 – October 11, with additional offers for Annual Passholders and Florida Subscriber Rates: Exclusive discounts for Disney+ subscribers, with hotel rates starting at $99 per night at select Resident Summer Magic Ticket: Four-day park ticket for just $60 per day (through Sept. 27).Free Water Park Admission: Complimentary water park entry on check-in day for Disney Resort hotel guests through Sept. 7. More than just a vibe, 'Jameson Distilled Sound' is a global music initiative and local event series on a mission to unite a worldwide music family across genres, borders, and subcultures – from KL's indie backstreets to Cork's pub sessions. Kicking off in 2024 with the ever-groovy Anderson .Paak, the programme uplifts rising talents with space to collaborate, grow, and get heard. Now, it's Malaysia's turn to shine – with singer-songwriter Claudia Tan becoming the first local artist mentored by .Paak himself, proof of Jameson's real-deal commitment to Southeast Asian sounds. This Zhongshan edition will be a genre-blending ride through indie, electronic, funk, soul, and deep house across multiple spaces. The Courtyard, better known for sourdough than subwoofers, will host ambient electronica from Thailand's NOTEP, Talitha Tan's smooth R&B pop, Saint Kylo's funky grooves, plus sets from Su San, Daaliah, X.U., and Kent Lee on the handpan. A sonic feast, served smooth – just like the whiskey. Catch golden hour turn into full-blown rave as No One, Sheryn, Raven, Diorck, and B from Manipulated Mood Group light up the Kantata rooftop with high-energy DJ sets made for skyline views and serious bass drops. Then, KL alt-scene legends Chaseylain and Ribut 1059 of Twilight Actiongirl (TAG) close the night with a nostalgic-meets-now B2B set. While you're there, swing by Poppy Records in the Annexe – grab a Limited Edition Jameson x Anderson .Paak bottle and get a vinyl of your choice, free. Over at Triptyk, things get smooth and sultry. Mixologists Angel Ji and Steve Foo shake up Jameson-infused cocktails with a musical twist, soundtracked by Viene's deep club vibes and Vanns Ngo's pulsing house grooves. And just when you think it's winding down – a surprise tech-house Hijack Session keeps the beats going strong. Don't party on an empty stomach – Triptyk's serving bites that hit as hard as the bass. Enjoy yakitori skewers by Pixies & Vespers (a match made in heaven with a Jameson Ginger Ale & Lime), fiery tacos from Calle Taco, and late-night comfort eats from Kantata to keep your energy high and your feet moving. This is an open-invite night. Register for free entry on the Jameson website or find out more at @jamesonmalaysia. Arrive early to be the first 200 guests through the door and receive a complimentary Jameson Ginger Ale & Lime to start the night off smooth.
