Premier Sports Cup: Reaction and report as Cove Rangers' new striker makes his mark; Brora Rangers end campaign with defeat

Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley hopes summer signing David Eguaibor can make a similar impact to Rumarn Burrell after he netted his first goals for the club. The 21-year-old former Cobh Ramblers striker bagged a brace for the Aberdeen side in their 3-0 Premier Sports League Cup win against Brechin City at Glebe Park, with Mitch Megginson getting the other goal. Burrell scored 24 goals for Cove during the 2023-24 season and joined English League One club Burton Albion last summer. Since then he has gone on to win international caps for Jamaica and is now being linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle. Reflecting on Eguaibor's performance, Hartley said: 'We had him in during January and February through an agent, he's got the same agent as Rumarn Burrell. 'You've got to have contacts in the game and you've got to have a look at people. We liked what we saw and hopefully David can get stronger and better. 'We're in the business of giving people an opportunity and it's up to them to go and take it. 'It would be nice if he could have a similar impact to Burrell. He was outstanding and it looks like he's on the brink of a move to Plymouth for a £1million so you know when you come to Cove you get a good opportunity.' The win against Brechin gives Cove a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the League Cup. They are second in Group A with seven points ahead of their last game against Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden on Saturday. If Cove win at the weekend 10 points will be enough to secure a place in the last-16 as one of the three best group runners up. But they could also progress as group winners if they beat Queen's Park and Falkirk take one point or zero points against Spartans. Hartley added: 'The name of the game is winning, we kept a clean sheet, we're in a good position and we just need to see how it goes on Saturday.' A slick first half display wrapped up the points for Cove. They took the lead in the ninth minute when Layton Bisland's low cross from the right broke for Eguaibor to score from six yards. On 37 minutes Eguaibor doubled his and Cove's tally as he pounced to score from close range after Brechin failed to deal with Ryan Harrington's delivery from the left. The visitors kept pressing with Eguaibor denied by goalkeeper Craig Hepburn and Megginson having an effort cleared off the line. But in the 43rd minute Declan Glass' cross from the left found Megginson, who glanced a header into the bottom right corner. Eguaibor was inches away from his hat-trick midway through the second half when he swept a Harrington delivery from the left against the crossbar. Brechin finish the group with zero points and zero goals ahead of starting the Breedon Highland League season at home to Lossiemouth on Saturday. Boss Ray McKinnon said: 'It was a really tough game for us and we're down to a skeleton squad. 'Some of the boys have had to play all four games because we haven't been able to rotate, but they've given everything.' Brora Rangers ended their Premier Sports Cup campaign winless but can hold their heads high after a battling Bayview display. The Highland League champions, seeking their first goal in the tournament, made a bright start with Max Ewan sending an early effort wide. They went closer on seven minutes when Aidan Wilson's header forced a smart diving save from Matty Rollo in the home goal. The Cattachs were showing no signs of inferiority, and Ewan went close again with an angled drive that just missed the left-hand upright. However, the home side delivered a classic sucker-punch, scoring with their first effort when Nathan Austin cut inside his marker and curled an unstoppable shot into the top corner. The setback failed to dampen Brora's attacking intent and they responded with a 20-yarder from James Wallace that was comfortably saved by Rollo. But East Fife showed their clinical streak for a second time when the veteran Alan Trouten took a pass from Michael McKenna and volleyed home off the underside of the bar. Brora almost grabbed a lifeline before the break but Jordan MacRae's netbound header was well saved by Rollo. The visitors continued to give a good account of themselves on the restart with Alex Cooper seeing a shot rise inches over. However, once more, it was the Fifers who showed a more ruthless streak in front of goal, Trouten firing his second of the night high into the net.

Two alpha males go head-to-head as tensions rise

In the wake of an explosive Couple's Cove catch-up, Sam and Emanuel are no closer to squashing their beef. And fingers are being pointed at Sam's relationship with Jess after the pair departed lunch early to escape the noise. However, standing up for her man, Jess earned back some respect from her husband who had earlier felt a lack of trust. But that could be lost in an instant when photos from their past, and their phones, are delivered via the prickly orange crate. Georgia is in hysterics when she sees confronting images depicting Chad's past life as a stripper. 'Who cares!' she says, 'We're living in the present, we're not living in the past.' Brie tells Byron she loves a 'good stalk' before dating her suitors. The girls enjoy a spa day. Credit: Heath McKinley 'I'll go deep. I'll be on their 2011 photos,' she admits, before doing just that on her husband's phone and failing to see any red flags. Though the tables turn when Brie shows Byron her dating app profile, admitting she has probably '200 conversations open'. 'She's a classic example of not using dating platforms for the right seasons,' Byron tells producers, offered a glimpse into her commitment issues. Re-visiting the matter hours later, Byron tells Brie he thinks she's not ready for a relationship. And she doesn't take it well. 'I'm pissed off,' she tells producers, 'Where's the flare?' Initial concerns of inadequacy emerge for Dani, who peruses Emanuel's Instagram profile and is intimidated by his 'curated' feed and easy access to women through his music. 'It's the perfect environment for hook-ups,' she tells him. But Emanuel insists he's passed sleeping with 'groupies' and says he can imagine Dani joining him at shows. For Sam and Jess, who have had zero trouble landing dates on the outside, it presents an opportunity to learn how they sell themselves to the opposite sex. Laughing along as Sam captions each dating photo aloud, he feels that relationship coach Jess shows a 'poor reflection of herself' online. 'I'm going to be brutally honest. If this was in the Hinge world and I came across it, I probably would hit 'cross',' he says. After the initial shock, Jess admits to feeling grateful he was honest with her. At Amy and Mike's camp, the discussion over dating apps leads to Amy considering her 'ammo' — X-rated intel passed on from Emily early on — when her beau insists he deleted his profiles months prior. Not everyone is happy at the girls' day, with some relationships attacked. Credit: Seven Network With Boys and Girls day scheduled, drama threatens to re-ignite between Sam and Emanuel as couples split into groups. Amid question marks over whether Sam will show up at all, the mystery man arrives with the best intentions and attempts to clear the air. 'I wouldn't mind getting the ugly stuff out of the way first so we can enjoy our date,' Sam says to the group, glancing over to Emanuel. Explaining he needed to walk away at their previous encounter to avoid further conflict, he apologises to Emanuel and they put it behind them. And Mike seeks counsel from Chad who advises him of an alternative route to winning over Amy's heart. At the girls' spa day, Brie tells the group she was made to feel like a 'dirty hoe' by Byron for sharing her dating history. Switching the spotlight to Jess, Amy expresses her concerns of Sam's many 'red flags' and implores her to see the light. But Jess hits back, saying she doesn't feel 'heard' by Amy, ironically. When the group probes Amy for her feelings towards Mike, she says she wants to see the best of him, but her gut is telling her 'something's really off'. Returning to their respective camps after a day apart, Sam is fed-up with the constant nagging at his relationship, but it appears to be only strengthening his bond with Jess. Byron apologises to Brie for reacting unfairly, and she promises to start afresh despite still feeling offended by his initial response. Mike's attempt to push Amy into taking the next step backfires when she says she's aware he and Emily matched on Hinge the day of their speed dating event. 'Apparently one of the first things you asked her was what underwear she's wearing,' Amy says, with Mike almost choking on his mouthful of water. Asking what he can do to fix the situation, without coming clean on the accusation, it leaves the pair at an impasse. Will they try to find a way forward, or a way out? Next episode's ultimatum will force them to make a tough decision.

Foot fetishist bombarded police and NHS with 1,200 calls asking about their feet

A creep who bombarded the emergency services with hundreds of nuisance calls so he could pester the operators about their feet has been spared jail. Richard Cove, 49, made repeated bogus calls to the police's non-emergency 101 line so he could 'indulge his sexual foot fetish', Worthing Magistrates Court heard. Already well-known to NHS 111 operators as 'The Foot Fetish Caller', he would give his name as Michael Foot or Helen Cheeseman to manufacture a conversation. Cove would then steer the chat to asking about the size of their feet or trying to manipulate call handlers into saying the phrases 'cheesy feet' or 'smelly feet'. The pervert pleaded guilty to wasting hours of police time over the calls to the 101 number and was given a 10-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. He previously received a 16 week prison sentence suspended for two years over calls to the NHS 111 line. Investigating officer, Rose Horan, said of the latest weird offences: 'A number of police staff reported strikingly similar conversations from withheld numbers which we were able to link to Richard Cove. 'He pretended to be an elderly woman so that he could manipulate call takers into giving him time and attention. 'He specifically targeted female officers, some in busy departments dealing with serious sexual offences and online child abuse, wasting scarce public resources to indulge his sexual fetish.' Natalie Roepke, prosecuting, had told the court: 'He was asking the call handlers about their feet and height and telling them about his feet. 'He admitted a sexual foot fetish which he indulges during the calls. 'He said he is aroused by feet and especially aroused by the thought of the call handlers feet.' More Trending Cove, who runs an eBay selling business from home, said: 'What I did was very silly. 'I enjoyed talking about feet, but I made it clear to police I wasn't getting off on it, there was no masturbation.' He was issued with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order preventing him from contacting 999 unless in a genuine emergency and stipulating that he uses his real name and does not withhold his telephone number. Cove must also report non-emergency matters in person at a police station, providing correct details. He was also ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and pay court costs of £85. One couple loses the spark as another turns up the heat

Following an explosive Couple's Cove, the newlyweds are faced with growing sexual tension and unpacking any lingering doubts about their relationships. Emily is left reeling about Tom's admission that he didn't see a spark with her. But in another back flip, he says he wants to start afresh, leaving Emily 'hopeful' without being completely trusting of him. Once well-connected Brie and Byron are tested after Brie felt her man didn't have her back while piling onto Tom at Couple's Cove for his behaviour towards Emily. According to Byron, seeing his wife so fired up about drama was 'a bit of an ick' — forcing him to question his feelings towards her. Meanwhile, Sam tries to make sense of a very public that joke Jess made about him 'punching' her in the face while they slept during the storm. Jess and Sam become closer after a joke at Couple's Cove that got between them. Credit: Seven Network Clearing the air, Jess felt they both needed 'breathing space' to re-calibrate. However, when Sam resurfaces after disappearing for hours, the couple agree to be open with each other to move forward. In another shake-up, each pair receives a second orange crate to bring them closer romantically. Amy and Mike, while slowly building a friendship, seem worlds away from even a whisper of intimacy. And Georgia and Chad explore their sexual chemistry — beginning with a sensual yet firm massage from Chad as his wife lies willingly on the bed. For Dani, the prospect of getting closer to 'mega hot' Emanuel brings back emotions of inadequacy she thought would stay at home. Airing her insecurities, she receives overwhelming support from her husband, who reassures her she is beautiful inside and out. And as if a physical wall had been torn down between them, the pair enjoy a skinny dip together and embrace for a kiss. When the intimacy box arrives for Brie and Byron, Brie admits she's had a 'f**** flutter' from imagining what their sex would be like. But the dancer is slightly wrong-footed by her man's inability to reciprocate the feeling. Re-visiting the conversation later, Byron still can't give her the answers she needs, leaving Brie feeling as if there's no way forward. But with Byron admitting he needs time for his comfort levels to grow, the pair find their way back into each other's arms to rekindle whatever it was they had. For once distant Tom and Emily, the magic of the intimacy crate results in a 'French kiss' and a giant leap forward. Taking a day to realise their crate had even arrived, Jess and Sam nervously approach their sexually-driven questions but are surprised to hear that their answers are quite similar. Admitting they'd both slept with roughly 100 people, the couple concede they imagined the other would be very competent beneath the sheets. More tension is expected next week as another Couple's Cove catch-up promises to destabilise each couple's foundations. City's first beach resort opens

Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Cove Beach Resort at Hawk's Bay on Friday, the first-ever beach resort in the metropolis established under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. While speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor declared that Karachiites no longer need to travel abroad for premium beach experiences, as the city now boasts its own world-class leisure destination. The resort, completed in just six months, offers state-of-the-art facilities and is now open to the public. The mayor described the project as a milestone achievement for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and a step toward modernising the city's infrastructure. Wahab announced that another beach resort is in the pipeline, likely to be developed in Ibrahim Hyderi or Malir, ensuring broader access to high-quality recreational spaces for citizens. He stressed that enhancing Karachi's leisure and tourism sector remains a top priority under his administration. The mayor outlined several key projects aimed at improving Karachi's livability and economic vitality, which include cleaning of 46 major stormwater drains to prevent urban flooding during monsoon; beautification of II Chundrigar Road, the city's financial hub; preservation of historic landmarks such as Denso Hall, Empress Market, and Frere Hall; development of a mangrove conservation park to promote environmental awareness. The inauguration was attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, and various UC chairmen and officials. In a separate meeting with the Sindhi Muslim Housing Society's Managing Committee, Mayor Wahab directed the KMC Land Department to take immediate action against illegal constructions and encroachments on KMC-owned properties. He asked for weekly progress reports to ensure enforcement transparency. Meanwhile, the mayor has formally written to the Federal Minister for Commerce and Chairman of the Export Development Fund (EDF) Board, Jam Kamal Khan, expressing deep concern over the continued neglect of Karachi in the allocation and utilisation of Export Development Funds. The Mayor has urged the federal government to ensure that Karachi receives its rightful share of support and funding, commensurate with its critical role in Pakistan's economy.
