Colin Cowherd names the top college football programs of today. Where is Ohio State?
College football has seen more changes than the price of gas these days, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. In order for the best programs to keep up, they have to embrace Name, Image and Likeness, the transfer portal, direct revenue sharing, and anything else that comes their way. Oh, and you still better have a good coaching staff and be able to recruit among the best. Ohio State showed that it can compete in that environment last season by taking home the College Football Playoff national championship in the inaugural 12-team playoff, but can it continue to do so in the future? There's a further expanded playoff most likely on the way, along with many other changes that are still to come, so it'll be important for the Buckeyes to get out ahead of everything to continue to be one of the very best in the country. Colin Cowherd recently discussed this very topic and tried to come up with the college football programs positioned the best moving forward. He used the same metrics and things that teams have to embrace and be creative with in the ever-changing environment we're in. With all of that in mind, Cowherd likes where Ohio State is, so much so that when rattling off the five best college football programs right now, he chose the Buckeyes as No. 1 with a close second-place going to Georgia. Beyond that, he likes Texas, Oregon, and Notre Dame to round out his top five, then threw in Alabama at No. 6, followed by Penn State and Michigan. Have a listen and watch yourself to hear Cowherd heap praise on Ohio State as the best program in college football today and in the near future. Even though we've seen Ohio State struggle landing some of its extreme priorities this year in the 2026 class, it is still recruiting at a high level with everything in place to continue to be one of the best college football programs nationally, just like it has been for years. And yes, for once, Cowherd agrees. Contact/Follow us @BuckeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Ohio State news, notes and opinion. ‘Worst RB room in the league': Colin Cowherd rips Dallas Cowboys for passing on Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry
Photo by Amy E. Price/Getty Images Saquon Barkley just finished a storybook season that ended with a Super Bowl ring in Philadelphia, but when free agency opened before the 2024 season, two NFC East rivals didn't even bother to pick up the phone. Barkley revealed this week that neither the Dallas Cowboys nor the Washington Commanders even reached out. That omission ignited fresh criticism from Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd, a longtime sports talk host known for blunt commentary. On The Herd Monday, Cowherd delivered a scathing assessment of the Cowboys' roster strategy, mocking their failure to call Barkley or Derrick Henry as proof the franchise is more interested in selling the brand than winning games. NFL free agency exposes Dallas Cowboys' roster-building flaws as they pass on Pro Bowl running backs Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry Speaking candidly about his free-agency process, Barkley admitted he was open to conversations that never happened. Instead, he signed with the Eagles ahead of 2024—a move that turned out perfectly for Philadelphia as Barkley helped power their offense all the way to a Super Bowl championship. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, who had let Tony Pollard walk in free agency, entered 2024 with arguably the league's weakest running back room, relying on unproven backs and patchwork committee options that failed to scare defenses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo That decision drew the ire of Cowherd, who ripped Dallas for failing even to inquire about two Pro Bowl backs. "The Cowboys had the worst running back room in the league and they didn't make a phone call on Derrick Henry or Saquon Barkley," Cowherd said on Fox Sports. He didn't stop there, comparing the Cowboys to an overpriced luxury car that's always in the shop. "I've never owned a Maserati but the Cowboys and Maseratis are that luxury brand that feel like they spend way too much in the shop," he quipped. Cowherd argued that Dallas's reputation as 'America's Team' has blinded fans and ownership to reality. 'I think Dallas is a bottom quarter, bottom fifth NFL franchise but because they've been such a luxury brand it's hard to wrap your brain around that. Like, you think about the Cowboys and you think winning.' Is the Dallas Cowboys' brand image getting in the way of NFL success? For all the hype surrounding their iconic star logo, the Cowboys haven't delivered consistent championship success in nearly three decades. Yet they remain TV ratings gold, an endless topic for sports debate shows—no matter what the standings say. Cowherd's blistering Monday critique on The Herd shines a spotlight on that contradiction. Even as Dallas ignores potential difference-makers like Barkley and Henry, they dominate headlines. But the question lingers: will the Cowboys ever focus less on the brand and more on actually winning? Or will they keep selling the sizzle while the on-field results continue to disappoint? Cowherd roasts Pittsburgh: 'Aaron Rodgers is too smart to think Steelers are a good fit'
Cowherd roasts Pittsburgh: 'Aaron Rodgers is too smart to think Steelers are a good fit' Colin Cowherd just blasted the Steelers organization — as he claimed Aaron Rodgers is too smart to join the Steelers. On the most recent episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the long-time controversial sports personality gave his take on why Rodgers hasn't signed with Pittsburgh: "The Steelers are a shaky fit, and Aaron knows it. He doesn't want to offend Mike Tomlin. It may be — if he wants to play — his best spot. But they can't figure out offense — I've gone over this a million times. They're tone deaf to offense." Cowherd would criticize the Steelers for trading away George Pickens for cheap and their decision to "overspend" on DK Metcalf, before concluding that Rodgers is "too smart" to think Pittsburgh could work out. The Steelers have struggled to get the offense rolling since Ben Roethlisberger retired, but one could argue that the consistent turnaround at the QB position is responsible — and Rodgers could certainly help with that in 2025.

Cowboys Get U2 Comparison in Whiny Colin Cowherd Rant
The Dallas Cowboys are - and always will be - "America's Team". As much as any pundit or social media troll wants to believe they aren't, the NFL believes they are just as much. Following the release of every team's schedule for the 2025 season, fans noticed the Cowboys will have eight primetime games - which include both major holidays. Advertisement Of course, most non-Cowboys fans aren't happy about it as they claim the Cowboys have been better in their marketing efforts than the actual football product in recent decades. Even without the playoff success, the Cowboys continue to be the engine that drives the NFL's TV dominance in the United States. And it will probably always be this way, so a lot of primetime Cowboys games shouldn't be a surprise. The animated radio host Colin Cowherd is the latest to chime in on the schedule, voicing his displeasure with Dallas receiving this much attention each season. First he ripped on the Cowboys vs. the Eagles season opener in Philadelphia, saying "I don't need to see that game." Advertisement He must've forgot it is one of the most storied rivalries in sports, and one that now features the reigning Super Bowl champions - AKA an obvious excitement game pinned to begin kick-off weekend. Then, he called out Dallas' Thanksgiving matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs by claiming it "doesn't scream fascinating." Really? We expect, as long as both teams are healthy and competitive, that the game will feature as much star power - and viewership to match - as ever before on a nationally televised game. Oh, but he couldn't stop there. Cowherd compared the Cowboys to the infamous U2 album that was pre-downloaded and un-deletable on all iPhones circa 2014 ... the one you "didn't want it" and "couldn't get rid of it." Advertisement "That's what I feel about the Cowboys." He added: "The only thing keeping the Cowboys TV numbers up is networks putting them on and the NFL putting them on more." Want to know why? Because it works. Colin Cowherd And The CowboysTony Fisher The NFL is the most profitable league in the world and knows how to draw eyeballs. Year after year, and week after week, Cowboys games receive as much viewership from their worldwide following as they do from those like Colin Cowherd who claim they are unwatchable, but can't seem to turn away. Maybe Cowherd would realize this phenomenon if he stopped talking about the Cowboys - and clipping "hot-take" social media snippets that beg for attention (see below) - and watched his own numbers go down. Advertisement That is what the NFL is smart enough to avoid, and what others aren't smart enough to grasp or accept. Colin Cowherd makes bold prediction for Bears in 2025
Colin Cowherd makes bold prediction for Bears in 2025 After a busy and productive offseason, there are high expectations surrounding the Chicago Bears heading into the 2025 season. From the hiring of Ben Johnson and his very experienced coaching staff to a revamped roster to even more attention in the media, the Bears will have to live up to all of the offseason hype. Last season the spotlight came on Chicago early with the additions of rookie first rounders in quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze, so much so that they were chosen for the HBO series 'Hard Knocks'. What felt like a season full of optimism and excitement, turned into a season with three separate offensive coordinators, two head coaches, and a disappointing 5-12 record. FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd has been impressed with what the Bears have done this offseason, which prompted him to predict a high-place finish in the NFC North -- and their first playoff berth since 2020. "In the NFC North, I think the Bears sneak into the playoffs," Cowherd said when discussing the NFC North and placed them second in the division behind the Detroit Lions finishing first, with the Green Bay Packers finishing third, and the Minnesota Vikings, who Cowherd said will be a "really good fourth place team". There has been years of optimism around the Bears franchise over the last few years, but there has only been disappointment that follows. It will be a tall task for Johnson to make the playoffs in his first year with the team, which has plenty of new names on the roster, as they compete in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. Getting back to the playoffs would be one thing, but winning a playoff game would be even more crucial as the team hasn't won in the postseason since defeating the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC divisional round back in the 2010 season.
