Coyote Ugly sequel gets major update as Piper Perabo drives fans wild with hints 25 years after filming original movie
A sequel for Coyote Ugly is potentially in the works as an original cast member shared a major update, to the excitement of many longtime fans. Piper Perabo, who is known for portraying the protagonist Violet Sanford in the 2000 film, hinted at the possibility of a follow-up installment while attending San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. The 48-year-old actress, who starred in Coyote Ugly when she was in her early 20s, hinted at a project being in the works and said there have been behind-the-scenes talks. 'There has been some discussion about that,' she told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday. 'Some things are being discussed.' She continued mysteriously: 'I can't really say, but people that were doing it are talking about some stuff.' Her update comes less than a year after Perabo reunited with the ensemble cast to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Coyote Ugly with Tyra Banks, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Bridget Moynahan and Melanie Lynskey. When she was asked if talks about a second film was once again 'back on,' she responded, 'Among the necessary — and some people that were like, "Well, we don't necessarily need," they're like, "Oh, well I wanna be in it."' She added: 'So there's a lot of cooks in the kitchen right now, but things are moving around.' When asked if there was already a written script for Coyote Ugly 2, she only replied: 'I can't say anything about that.' Perabo added, 'But I will say that people that were integral to making it are in communication about how to do something more.' The actress previously starred in the the original movie, which was released in 2000. In the dramedy, she played aspiring songwriter Violet Sanford, who gets a job at the Coyote Ugly saloon to earn money as she pursues her music career. It's there that she meets Kevin O'Donnell (portrayed by Adam Garcia), and he helps her overcome her stage fright. However, her father (John Goodman) learns of her new job and disapproves of the environment at Coyote Ugly, and she ends up getting fired. He later gets involved in a car crash, and the scary experience gives him a new outlook, leading him to encourage his daughter to pursue her songwriting dreams. Despite having a relatively low budget and receiving mediocre reviews, Coyote Ugly was hit after grossing $113 million worldwide. In February, the cast reunited for a special screening and Q&A to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie's release. During the event, Banks said that the reunion was 'magical, wild, hilarious and deeply touching — just like the movie itself.' In her pre-screening remarks at the event, according to People, Bello praised Banks for her role in organizing the benefit. During the panel discussion, Miko recalled the intense rehearsals for the movie's elaborate dance numbers. 'It feels like it was months, but I don't know if it was months, but it was a long time,' she recalled. 'There was just not only the choreography, but also just dealing with fire and water elements. That was great.' Miko went on to say that she was 'so grateful' not to be among those who had to dance on the bar, which she called 'a nightmare.' Prior to the reunion, Bello teased that she hadn't 'seen some of those girls in 25 years' and was excited to see what would happen. Back in 2018, she teased that she was eager to reprise her role as the no-nonsense bartender. 'I'm dying to do Coyote Ugly 2,' the actress told People. 'I want to produce it — I just need to get the rights from Mr. Jerry Bruckheimer or work with him.'

Robot coyotes eyed by U.S. army to protect fighter jets from wildlife
U.S. Army researchers have developed an unmanned ground vehicle featuring plastic coyotes mounted on top that can help deter problematic wildlife such as birds. Photo by U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center / LinkedIn American researchers have come up with a novel idea to keep birds and other wildlife away from fighter jets stationed at airfields across the U.S. Robot coyotes. Researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) released an image of three unmanned ground vehicles with life-size plastic figures mounted on top in a grassy field near the U.S. navy's elite Blue Angels fighter jet demonstration team. The centre said in a social media post they are aiming to help 'biologists and managers at military airfields deter wildlife, particularly problematic birds, from posing a risk to flight crews, aircraft and operations.' Last year, the centre began collaborating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Wildlife Research Center in Ohio to test the effectiveness of Coyote Rovers at scaring off wildlife through several trials. Shea Hammond, a research biologist for ERDC, said he and Jacob Jung, an ERDC research wildlife biologist, have worked on the developing the Coyote Rovers over the last five years. Hammond believes that the technology could also be used by civil infrastructure authorities as well as the military. 'They basically have the same functionality as any other drone,' Hammond told the Army Times . 'We can program areas we want to exclude it from going, such as the airfield itself. We had worked on docking stations and recharging stations so it can operate on a programmed timer, so it can have utility for multiple days.' Hammond said scientists could employ artificial intelligence and machine-learning skills in future versions of the Coyote Rovers. In the past, dogs were sometimes used to deter wildlife from getting near expensive military aircraft, equipment and buildings, Hammond noted. But that job could be done better by these coyote robots, he added. Read More Golf Toronto & GTA Toronto & GTA Toronto Raptors Toronto & GTA

2000s Movie Might Get A Sequel Over 25 Years Later
The 2000s were a great time for many original movies and IPs. As we move further into the 2020s, however, the movies begin to resonate with fans in a more nostalgic manner. It's no surprise, then, that another 2000s movie might be receiving a sequel – and more than 25 years after it was originally released! At the time of this writing, nothing is set in stone, but the film's original producer insisted that a follow-up is a possibility. In fact, he's teased that they've even considered a television spin-off based on the property. Either way, it looks like this fan-favorite cult classic from 2000 is set to make a comeback. Jerry Bruckheimer teased as much while speaking with ScreenRant. During their conversation, Bruckheimer was asked about an earlier film he produced from 2000 and whether or not it could receive a sequel. Here's what he shared: 'Ah, that's a good idea. Thanks for that,' Bruckheimer replied, referring to Coyote Ugly . He continued to share that they have been developing some kind of Coyote Ugly project for television: 'We've been trying to do it for television. It hasn't quite happened yet – maybe we'll get it together.' With his response in mind, it seems as though a Coyote Ugly sequel still isn't in the works completely. However, he seems open to the idea, having previously explored the possibility with a TV series. Perhaps if there's enough interest from fans – they'll be able to get a continuation off the ground in one form or another. The original Coyote Ugly film was directed by David McNally from a screenplay by Gina Wendikos with uncredited contributions from Kevin Smith in addition to a number of other writers. The story revolves around a group of friends at the Coyote Ugly Saloon in New York City. The flick did well at the box office, and while it didn't receive positive reviews at the time of its release, it did eventually develop a cult following. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Jerry Bruckheimer's plans to potentially revive the 2000s movie Coyote Ugly with a sequel. As for now, we'll have to see what other projects he has on the way, including the highly-anticipated F1: The Movie .

Dark TV show 'compared to Ozark' dominates Netflix charts
Last month Netflix dropped all eight episodes of a new drama that's been compared to Ozark and it's now dominating the Netflix charts. The Waterfront, which was created by Dawson's Creek and Scream writer Kevin Williamson, is currently number one on the Netflix charts and has been watched an impressive 11,600,000 times. So what's it about? Well, set against the backdrop of coastal North Carolina… [The Waterfront] centres on the fictional Buckley family and their crumbling fishing empire.' Starring 90s movie star Holt McCallany, Coyote Ugly actress Maria Bello, and Supergirl legend Mellisa Benoist, The Waterfront 'explores family dynamics and the lengths people will go to when their legacy is on the line'. The series has proven to be wildly popular and many fans were excited about The Waterfront before they'd even seen it. This is definitely giving me the same vibes as Ozark did!' However, now that the show's been released, it's earned a host of new fans who've taken to social media to shower the series with praise. 'I've finished watching The Waterfront,' wrote @VivQi on X. 'It was definitely intense, chaotic, fast paced and entertaining to watch!' @benoistpost added: 'We need season 2 of #TheWaterfront please @Netflix'. Meanwhile, @dariacott admitted they, 'Came for Melissa Benoist, stayed for the plot! Overall, really good show.' On Reddit, Liltwaunnysquirt wrote: 'I enjoyed the show. Reminded me of Ozarks a little bit, certainly not as good, but still thought it was solid.' 'I loved the show,' said Basic-Insect3214. 'Maybe it is because I have not watched the other shows that it is being compared to constantly, so for me as a standalone, it was a good watch.' The series has been compared to Ozark not just because they're both on Netflix, but because both shows depict an otherwise ordinary family pulled into the criminal underworld. In Ozark, the Byrde family moved to the titular region to continue laundering money for a large Mexican drug cartel, leading to several violent confrontations. The Waterfront creator Kevin Williamson told Netflix: 'We've never really seen a story about the commercial fisherman told before in any sort of dramatic way in a family drama. '[The fishing industry] is being taken away from them bit by bit. [The lead characters] will do anything to hold onto it – it represents their family. They also care about the town, and so many people depend on them.' He continued, talking about the plot, which sees the characters having to make millions of dollars very quickly: 'It's about a bunch of people who make mistakes, they do some bad things, and then they get in deeper and deeper and deeper. Have you been watching The Waterfront? 'When you have all these people doing bad things, it's always nice when they do that one good thing that can bring hope back.' Kevin also revealed that the story behind the series is, in part, a personal and autobiographical one, with his father involved in the fishing industry once upon a time. More Trending 'The fishing industry upturned in the '80s – my dad couldn't feed his family. So, someone came along and said, 'Hey, if you do this one thing, you can make all this money' and it was hard to say no to. 'My dad – a very, very good man – got tempted to do some things that weren't so legal and got in some trouble. [But] it put food on the table and it helped me go to college.' The Waterfront is available to watch on Netflix now. (This article was first published on June 19, 2025.) Got a story? Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A former Edinburgh city centre pub is set to be transformed into an American-style bar and restaurant. Coyote Ugly plans to open its first Scottish 'saloon' in the unit previously known as Shandwicks, on South Charlotte Street. Proposals have been submitted to the council on behalf Coyote Ugly UK Ltd for new signage after Shandwicks closed suddenly nearly a year ago, on July 6. The boozer was known for its lively atmosphere and discount drinks as locals were left gutted following the closure. Coyote Ugly currently has chains in major UK cities such as London, Cardiff, Liverpool and Birmingham. The western bar is known for its focus on 'girl power' with staff often dancing on the bar. Bars are also known for having live music and an extensive food menu consisting of burgers, nachos and wings. Edinburgh has also been listed as one of the locations online, with more details to be revealed in due course. Their website says: "Coyote Ugly Edinburgh is coming in hot. "This is the bar where the girls run the show - and you're invited to the front row." Typical saloon-style signage is set to be installed outside the ground floor unit as drawings were submitted to the council. A planning document confirmed: "The scheme is basically the removal of the existing signage and replacement of new in the same locations. "There is to be no physical changes to the original fabric of the listed building, all changes are reversible and installed so as not to be detrimental to the original structure."
