Prince George RCMP investigate $25,000 in damage to cemetery headstones
RCMP say they are investigating after cemetery staff in Prince George, B.C. discovered 21 vandalized headstones on Monday. RCMP estimate the damage at the Prince George Municipal Cemetery to be up to $25,000. Four of the 21 knocked-over headstones were damaged, according to city spokesperson Kendall Robertson. "The non-damaged ones have been returned to their positions and everything cleaned up," Robertson said. "Staff also notified plot owners of the damaged markers." The City of Prince George, located about 515 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, said it is not financially responsible for repairs or replacing the damaged headstones. City bylaws state that the care of "grave space memorials" is the responsibility of the owner. Since there is no surveillance on the cemetery grounds, there is little insight into what happened, according to Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. Investigators are asking anyone who has information on the case to contact RCMP.

Handbag with ‘fully functional' grenades found during B.C. police search
Guns, cash, drugs and contraband cigarettes are shown in this photo from the Prince George RCMP. Mounties in Northern B.C. had to evacuate a building and call in the explosive disposal unit while executing a search during a drug trafficking investigation earlier this month. The Prince George RCMP searched 'multiple' homes connected to the 'illicit drug subculture' on June 6 and 7, a Tuesday news release from the detachment said. Nearly 20 kilograms of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA were seized along with cartons of contraband cigarettes, and 'several high-powered firearms and handguns with ammunition,' police said. At one of the homes, police found a handbag with what 'appeared to be several hand grenades' and when the bomb squad arrived, the devices were found to be 'fully functional,' according to the RCMP. 'These findings represent a significant increase to the threat level we are encountering within the illicit drug trade in Prince George,' spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said, in the release. 'We would like to send our thanks to the residents of the apartment complex who were urgently evacuated in the middle of the night when the explosives were located. The evacuations were necessary to ensure residents' safety and those effected were understanding and cooperative with law enforcement officers throughout the event.' Police say the investigation is ongoing, and their statement did not say whether any arrests have been made.

Suspects sought after man attacked with machete in Prince George, RCMP say
Prince George RCMP are alerting parents and caregivers to the dangers of sextortion after determining that a 12-year-old boy killed himself after being blackmailed online. The RCMP logo is seen outside the force's 'E' division headquarters in Surrey, B.C., on Thursday, March 16, 2023. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck Authorities are searching for suspects after a man was surrounded by youths and attacked with a machete in Prince George, B.C., last week. The victim was assaulted along Strathcona Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, suffering what the Prince George RCMP described as 'numerous non-life-threatening injuries.' At one point, the man was 'struck in the head by a machete,' the detachment said in a news release Monday. Officers arrested one suspect, a 15-year-old, shortly after the attack, but are still trying to track down others. 'Witnesses in the area have been incredibly cooperative with our investigation and from this we know there were three assailants,' said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, in a statement. The RCMP asked anyone with information on the two suspects who remain outstanding to contact the Prince George detachment's non-emergency line.
