Post your questions for Craig David

It is, incredibly, 25 years since Craig David broke out with his debut album Born to Do It, a classic of British garage and R&B. The Southampton-born musician has since proven to be one of the former genre's greatest ambassadors: he has said his recent single, Wake Up, is about 'respecting my garage roots' and the importance of preserving genres and cultures 'for generations to come'. That mission feels typical of David, a tireless and earnest pop presence due to release his ninth album, Commitment, next month. You can see the esteem he commands from the collaborators on it, among them Toddla T, Wretch 32, Jojo and Tiwa Savage. 'Making music still turns me into that giggly, excited little kid who wants to feel the magic of it all,' he has said. You can ask David about his quarter-century in the game – from joining up with the Artful Dodger to breaking the US, getting permission from David Bowie to sample Just Dance, performing at the Queen's platinum jubilee and campaigning for more social housing for Shelter – when he takes the Guardian's reader interview. Post your questions in the comments by 22 July and the best answers will feature in a future edition of Film & Music.

Love Island shock as huge pop star enters the villa for sexy performance

THE Love Island stars are in for a treat, and so are viewers at home, when a HUGE pop star enters the famous villa. It's been an explosive few days with love triangles, people being dumped and furious rows, so the Islanders could do with a bit of fun. 5 5 5 5 The Sun can exclusively reveal that singer Katy B will be strutting her stuff into the villa, for a surprise set. Insiders tell us that the singer will be filming in the villa tonight, as the Islanders get treated to a performance. The Katy On a Mission hitmaker will be seen belting out all her biggest songs, as the Islanders dance along. Over the years the villa has seen some HUGE stars perform, including Craig David, Jason Derulo and Rita Ora. As the performance is being filmed tonight, this could mean it will play out on Sunday night's episode. CASA AMOR RETURN Katy's performance could also coincide with the return of Casa Amor, which The Sun confirmed today will start on Sunday. The fan-favourite part of the show sees a whole host of stunning bombshells introduced to test the current Islanders. Viewers will see the iconic Casa Amor neon light flicker on as a teaser at the end of tonight's show. And with the current crop of stars struggling to form genuine connections, it's likely to cause complete chaos. There was already a taste of what to expect from the second villa earlier in the series when four stars spent time away for the Sleepover. Watch awkward moment Love Island's Meg clashes with bombshell Billykiss over Dejon in brutal game On that occasion, four new arrivals moved into the Casa villa - but only one, Gio Russo, made it back into the original villa. The repercussions of the villa switch-up were brutal, with Remell Mullins paying a high price for his decision. The Islander looked set to recouple with new girl Poppy Farnan after snogging and cuddling her the whole time. But, at the last minute, he changed his mind and decided to stick with Alima Gagio. Her relief quickly turned to despair when Helena Ford, who was also with him at the Sleepover, told her how he'd been behaving. Alima moved quickly to call things off and it wasn't long after that Remell was sent packing from the show altogether, with Alima not far behind. 5

Craig David on 7 Days, selling mixtapes, and his love of performing in Southampton

Craig David has a notoriously busy week, but luckily made time to talk to the Echo about his homecoming show this weekend. The Southampton local who shot to fame overnight in the early 2000s has long graced the RnB scene. He consistently champions is home city too, previously backing the bid for Southampton to be UK City of Culture and praising the pool of local musical talent. The 44-year-old singer, songwriter and DJ said he feels a 'flood of nostalgia' every time he reaches the roundabout at the top of The Avenue on approach to Southampton. 'The feeling of being home just hits every single time…being able to wrap that all up and bring it to the stage is important', he said. 'Specifically in Southampton, some of my tunes and songs mean a lot to people if I play them, for example my first song with Artful Dodger, that would mean a lot. 'People will say 'I remember when he did it on the mixtape and used to sell it at the barbers'. 'I am very excited and I never take the big hug and the love I get every time I come back to Southampton for granted.' David will be taking to the Summer Sessions stage on Guildhall Square on Saturday night, a big event that is proving popular year on year. He described the music industry as very 'London centric' in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He added: 'Growing up in Southampton I had the time and space to nurture my sound. 'We were on the pulse in being so close to London, which is why I think the music scene growing in Southampton was so poignant as it opened up the floodgates for musicians in other cities. 'The scene now in Southampton is thriving.' Speaking on his headliner gig on Saturday night, David said he is 'adamant' that he always wants to bring his classic songs to the stage, including 7 Days, the same way they were recorded. 'As it will be a TS5 DJ set, it will give me the freedom to interject with the original, do a remix, throw in an instrumental from another song, which is going back to what I did when I was DJ'ing on the south coast and making mixtapes in my bedroom', he said. And on the subject of 7 Days, it felt right to ask if, writing the song now, whether he would change any of the activities 25 years since its release. He said: 'That song lives in the space of me being 17 years old, looking out my bedroom window, thinking how my life would go down. 'It is the gift that keeps giving.' 'I was not being overtly vulgar in that song – I lived with my mum and had my grandma around so I needed it to have a filter and be cool', David joked.
