Fulham in talks to sign Arsenal winger and end transfer drought

Fulham are in talks to re-sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal after the winger spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage. The 25-year-old made 11 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers over the last campaign, scoring once, as injuries hampered his season. He made just five starts in the top flight in what was a frustrating season for the England Under-21 international as it ended in December. Nelson last played for Fulham on December 5, suffering a hamstring injury before then being hit by a separate hamstring problem and undergoing surgery in February. That saw him miss the rest of the season after featuring regularly in the first half of the campaign. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Fulham clearly liked what they saw from Nelson before the hamstring nightmare and have approached Arsenal over a deal to bring the winger back. It is likely to be another loan deal for the Arsenal youth academy product, but negotiations continue between the two London clubs. Fulham are currently the only Premier League club not to make any signings so far in the summer transfer window. That is certain to change at some point in the coming days and Nelson could be the first arrival to join Marco Silva's squad. Speaking in February when Nelson was likely being ruled out for the season, Silva explained what a blow it was to Fulham to lose the loanee. Apps: 61Goals: 5 Assists: 3 'It's a really tough moment for us,' Silva said. 'Of course, first of all, for the player, we feel really sorry for him, because he worked really hard to be back after the first hamstring injury. 'It was a moment that we all were excited about him coming back, because he was really important for us before the injury last December. He did so, so well, and we know that in his best level he is capable to help us to win football matches and to be stronger. 'When he was really ready to be in contention again for the game, he felt the other hamstring in the other leg. Not the same injury, completely different injury in the other leg. 'He got surgery there, and could be out until the end of the season. I don't want to give a timescale that is 100 per cent sure, but it could be out until the end of the season, unfortunately for him, and for us.' More Trending Silva added: 'When he was ready and was there, you can feel his quality, and you can see that he's a player that fits really well, understood well what we need from him. 'Very good guy, good lad, and another one that makes our dressing room be at the level that I like to see, and the environment and the friendship that's inside.' Nelson has made 90 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions and looked to be a growing influence in Mikel Arteta's squad in the 2023/24 season when he turned out 23 times. However, he is now deemed surplus to requirements and is one of a number of players available for transfer this summer. Ryan Reynolds tipped to sign Premier League star who has contract on the table

Wrexham are looking to spend big this summer as they prepare for life in the Championship and have been tipped to sign a Premier League club captain by a former Man United star Wrexham have been backed to land a major signing thanks to their Hollywood pulling power. The Red Dragons, owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are expected to splash the cash this summer after celebrating promotion from League One in April. The Welsh side have already strengthened ready for life in the Championship with the additions of Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie and Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward. More new faces are anticipated in the coming weeks, with Fulham captain Tom Cairney believed to be high on manager Phil Parkinson 's wish list. ‌ It's been reported that Wrexham have already made a move for the 34-year-old midfielder, whose contract at Craven Cottage ended in June. Negotiations for a one-year extension between Cairney and Fulham are said to have taken place, but Wrexham are said to be offering a substantial salary package and more opportunities for regular game time. ‌ Cairney, who has represented Scotland twice, featured in 23 Premier League matches for Fulham last season. Whether he will extend his tenure with the club into an eleventh season remains uncertain. However, former Fulham and Manchester United forward Louis Saha thinks Wrexham could tempt him away. The Frenchman suggested that the club's elevated profile could influence Cairney's decision. "Players will always consider what benefits their career," Saha told Coin Poker. "For Tom Cairney, he needs guarantees that he'll have playing time, that he's part of a plan. He'll want to know the club are growing. "For most players, they need to know where the club is headed and what they'll be offered. Of course, there's another aspect and you need to be convinced that the money is right, and that's important. "There's another aspect too, of visibility. Wrexham are not a traditionally big club but they're doing amazing things off the pitch, and the two owners are very commercially astute." ‌ He added: "It's a different kind of club, it's a new way of doing things, and they're doing them well." Cairney highlighted his desire to stay at Fulham after scoring a goal in the club's win over Brentford in May. ‌ Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, he said: "I've been through a lot here, through a lot with the fans. It was an incredible moment when I scored. It's a special bond. Addressing his future, Cairney added: "Nothing is sorted yet. Next week is my final game for Fulham. Hopefully it's not. In football, sometimes things go to the last minute and hopefully it's not my final time at Craven Cottage next weekend." Last month, renewed hopes emerged when Fulham announced that Cairney had been offered a new deal. It's unclear whether Wrexham can sway his decision, but co-owner Reynolds recently committed to backing his manager strongly in the transfer market this summer. Speaking on the RobRyanRed fan podcast, the 'Deadpool' actor said: "We're coming to win. I can't give you a dollar figure, but I can tell you that we are going to be as aggressive as we can possibly be while being mindful of sustainability. We have a stadium to revamp, but will still maintain its character and culture." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
