Tampa Bay Buccaneers to bring back divisive orange 'Creamsicle' jerseys and 'Bucco Bruce' helmet in 2025
Nostalgia is a heck of a drug. Once blamed for the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers ' early struggles in the 1970s, the team's erstwhile 'Bucco Bruce' logo will be reintroduced this season with its infamous road 'Creamsicle' uniforms in Week 3. The team unveiled the alternate threads online Tuesday as fans offered their overwhelming support for a color scheme traditionally likened to an orange-flavored frozen treat or cocktail. 'Creamsicles are a sweet throwback,' one fan wrote. 'Just make the damn things permanent,' another added. 'Would anyone object?' The question is a bit curious, considering the history of the creamsicle uniforms the Bucs wore from their inception in 1976 until 1997. Tampa Bay dropped its first 26 games in those jerseys, which became a symbol of the team's ineptitude. 'If [Bucco Bruce] is the guy who's in charge of losing, let's get rid of him,' the team's first coach, John McKay, said of his former team in 1997. Tampa Bay went 10-6 that season and reached the playoffs, snapping a streak of 14 straight losing campaigns. But as the years have ticked by and the Bucs' frustrations have been eased by two Super Bowl victories, the disdain for the Bucco Bruce uniforms has withered away. Now fans fatigued by Nike's modern uniform aesthetics are openly embracing a flamboyant color scheme that's suddenly become foreign in the NFL. 'Spectacular,' former Houston Texas great JJ Watt wrote on X. 'Is this the best helmet in the NFL?' asked Riddell Sports' account of the winking Bucco Bruce logo. 'Perfection,' one fan wrote. 'A rare 10/10 complete uniform.' The Bucs will continue using their modern logo and color scheme throughout the 2025 season but will adopt the once-divisive throwbacks on September 21 when Tampa hosts the New York Jets. Tampa Bay brought back the orange creamsicle home uniforms in 2023 but will be wearing their white road jerseys in Week 3 this time around.

Buccaneers will celebrate their 50th season with original 1976 uniforms in home opener
The Buccaneers had a season to forget as an expansion franchise in 1976, becoming the first 0-14 team in NFL history. But the Bucs' original uniforms are worth celebrating, and those uniforms will be featured as part of the team's 50th season this year. The Bucs will wear their original 1976 uniforms in their home opener on September 21 against the Jets, marking the first time since that inaugural season that the Buccaneers have worn their complete original uniforms. The Bucs have worn the famous Creamsicle look in other throwback games, but this year will be the first time that the players will wear a uniform identical to the one the team wore in 1976 — with one exception, a Creamsicle 50th season patch on the jerseys. 'The '76 Jersey represents a piece of Buccaneers history and serves as a tribute to the generations of fans and players who shaped this franchise,' Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford said in a statement. 'As we launch into our 50th season, we're proud to reintroduce The '76 Jersey and the tradition it embodies. It is a reminder that every Buccaneers fan, from the originals to the newest generation, is part of an evolving story that started in 1976 and continues being written today.' The Buccaneers' original white jerseys with orange numbers outlined in red and sleeves featuring one orange stripe between two red stripes were worn only in 1976, and the home opener will mark the jerseys' triumphant return. The Bucs will also wear their original white helmets, white pants and striped socks. Throwback uniforms have become popular with fans and lucrative for the NFL's merchandising, and the Bucs' original uniforms are among the NFL's most distinctive throwbacks. Bucs fans hope the team never throws it back to the quality of play they put on the field at the outset of the franchise, as they lost their first 26 games. But fans will gladly celebrate the team's original look.

Buccaneers add another flavor of 'Creamsicle,' bring back original road jersey
If you love a little bit of 'Creamsicle' during the sweltering days of July, then you're in luck. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing back another flavor of their famous/infamous uniforms featuring 'Florida Orange' and the winking pirate, 'Bucco Bruce,' that they featured for the first 21 seasons of their existence, beginning in 1976. However, in honor of their upcoming 50th anniversary campaign, the Bucs will also wear their white creamsicle road jerseys, which had not seen the light of day in any form since 1996. The uniforms are among the most notable in league history, the Buccaneers losing their first 26 games while being widely ridiculed for their appearance – both sartorially and from a football perspective. They only won one postseason game in Creamsicle before becoming something of a routine playoff entry in their current garb, which features red, pewter, a pirate flag helmet logo and a ship on the sleeve. Both of the organization's Super Bowl triumphs have come with the contemporary look. However the "Bucco Bruce" insignia − a winking pirate emblem calling back swashbuckling actor Errol Flynn − and the Florida Orange have taken on a nostalgic feel in recent decades, serving as a delightful throwback option from the 2009 through '12 seasons and returning anew in 2023 and '24 now that the NFL has relaxed its rules by permitting teams to use multiple helmet shells. 'If (Bucco Bruce) is the guy who's in charge of losing, let's get rid of him,' John McKay, the club's original coach, cracked when the logo was first retired in 1997. Since returning, Creamsicle and Bruce have been appreciated for breaking the mold of the NFL's fairly traditional uniforms when they were introduced. Bucco Bruce even occasionally took on the visage of Tom Brady, who quarterbacked Tampa Bay from 2020 to '22 and led the Bucs to victory in Super Bowl 55. Like their 1976 expansion brethren Bucs, the Seattle Seahawks are similarly expected to resurface their classic white road uniforms to celebrate their 50th season in 2025. Insider Reveals Buccaneers' New Uniform Treat for 2025
Insider Reveals Buccaneers' New Uniform Treat for 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. We already knew the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were breaking out the Creamsicle throwbacks this season against the Atlanta Falcons, but now, the team is taking that look down a whole new road, too. Advertisement Earlier this month, the Bucs teased that they were bringing back the road white uniforms from their inaugural season of 1976, and confirmed it. "According to multiple sources, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to unveil a white road version of their creamsicle throwback uniforms on July 15 as part of their 50th season celebration," wrote. "The jerseys, which were inadvertently leaked in February by the designer of the Buccaneers' 50th season logo, feature fluorescent orange numbers outlined in red, matching what the team wore during its inaugural season in 1976. They'll be paired with the same white helmet and pants that Tampa Bay wears with the home version of its creamsicle throwback uniforms, replicating what the Buccaneers wore in every regular season game that season, as the creamsicle jerseys were limited to the preseason. "The jerseys will prominently display a throwback-inspired version of Tampa Bay's 50th season patch on the left shoulder, with the No. 50 and background color matching the jersey, just like their home red, white road and creamsicle throwback designs." The Bucs have already revealed that they'll wear the Creamsicles during the Thursday Night Football matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Dec. 11, but we'll now apparently get to see the old road unis this season, too. Advertisement Hopefully, the whites don't hold the same bad juju that the old home uniforms do.
