CAL to hold AGM after 8 yrs;will election be on agenda?

Lucknow: Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) is set to hold its annual general meeting on July 26 after a gap of eight years. The decision was taken at an executive meeting of CAL on June 28. A communique issued by the CAL said that the AGM would be held at BBD University at 3pm on July 26. Either the president or the secretary from the clubs associated with CAL can attend the meeting, it added. Notably, according to CAL's rule book, AGM should be conducted annually but the meeting is being convened after a gap of eight years. The last meeting was held in 2017. Similarly, CAL's memorandum and rules say that the election of office-bearers should be conducted after the expiry of their tenure (three years), office-bearers claim that a formal election was held in 2005. CAL secretary Khaleeq Mukhtar Khan said, "It was in 2005 when the association's election was formally held in that year's AGM. Since then, office-bearers have been getting extension every year through consensus (waving of hands) during general meetings. After 2005, the next AGM was held in 2017, but no election was held in that meeting." Khan has been holding the post since 1985, barring two occasions – once in the late 1980s and again for a few months in 2017. According to CAL Memorandum and Rules, office-bearers of the executive committee include a president, senior vice-president, two vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer, two joint secretaries, public relation officer, an auditor and nine members. Joint secretary, CAL, Haider Raza said, "AGMs should take place every year so that cricket clubs get an opportunity to be heard. If election is included in the agenda of this year's AGM, a fair election process should be held under the supervision of Lucknow Society's Registrar." Former treasurer Sameer Mishra said, "In the 2017 AGM, discussion was held on the issue of election, but the members decided to follow the process of extension of term for another year."
