Robert Irwin, son of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, named as first celebrity for Dancing With The Stars 2025

Robert Irwin is "over the moon" that his "dream" of being on Dancing With The Stars has become a "reality". The 21-year-old conservationist has said it is an "honour" and a "privilege" to have been asked to take part in the 34th season of the hit reality show because seeing his sister Bindi – who won the competition in 2015 – dance with her pro partner Derek Hough in the ballroom at age 11 made him want to do it. Asked by Hough – who now serves as a judge on the show – how he feels to be taking part, Irwin said: "I cannot tell you what an honour, what a privilege it is to be joining this season. "I remember being a little 11-year-old – little 11-year-old Robert about this big with a little bowl cut, you remember that! And watching you and Bindi just having the most incredible time, lighting up the dance floor, I just thought, 'One day that's going to be me.' "I had these little dreams going, 'One day!' And now that dream is a reality, and I am over the moon, let's do this!" The son of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin is the first celebrity to be confirmed as a cast member on the 2025 show, with the rest being announced at a later date. Although no premiere date has been confirmed for season 34, Dancing With The Stars normally starts airing in mid-September. It is not the first time Robert Irwin will be dabbling in reality TV as he has already had his fair share of the genre in the past, including starring in the Irwins' Australian Zoo documentary series, Crikey! It's The Irwins from 2018 until 2022, and more recently, co-hosting the 2024 series of the Australian version of I'm A Me Out Of Here!' with Julia Morris.

Robert Irwin joins Dancing with the Stars season 34 as first celebrity contestant

The ballroom is about to get wilder ans fans can't wait for it. Dancing with the Stars has officially announced its first celebrity contestant for the highly-anticipated Season 34 , and it's none other than Australian wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin . The exciting news was confirmed on Tuesday, April 22, during an event, where it was also revealed that the beloved dance competition show has been renewed for another season. While the full cast of celebrities and pro dancers will be unveiled at a later date, Robert's participation has already ignited major buzz online. At just 21 years old, Robert carries the powerful legacy of his late father, Steve Irwin, the legendary 'Crocodile Hunter' who passed away tragically in 2006. Since then, Robert, alongside his mother Terri Irwin and sister Bindi Irwin , has continued to work at the Australia Zoo, championing wildlife preservation. The family starred together in the Animal Planet series Crikey! It's the Irwins, further cementing their dedication to conservation. Robert isn't the first Irwin to hit the DWTS stage—his sister Bindi Irwin made history in 2015 when she won Season 21 alongside professional dancer Derek Hough. Now, all eyes are on Robert to see if he can bring home another mirrorball trophy to the Irwin family. The conservationist recently turned heads for a different reason when he went viral earlier this month for a bold campaign with Australian underwear brand Bonds, which is expanding into the U.S. In the photos, Robert posed in nothing but Bonds boxers—surrounded by snakes, spiders, and other venomous creatures. In an interview he said, 'We are all trying to continue an important legacy that my dad started. I've gotten to find my own individual ways of doing that, and sometimes that comes in the form of modeling Bonds!' With his charisma, passion, and love for animals, Robert Irwin is already a fan-favorite to watch on Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars. Stay tuned for the full cast reveal—it's bound to be a wild ride!

Dancing With the Stars Announces First Season 34 Cast Member

Originally appeared on E! Online Crikey! Dancing With the Stars just announced their first season 34 cast member. Wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin—the son of the late Steve Irwin and his wife Terri Irwin—is set to join the ABC competition series for its upcoming season, he announced at Disney Entertainment Television's Get Real Event April 22. And while the 21-year-old—who recently starred in a Bonds underwear campaign—will be trading in his notable khaki uniform for dancing attire, he's not the first member of his family to tango onto the show's dance floor. In fact, Robert's sister Bindi Irwin took home the Mirrorball Trophy in 2015, winning season 21 alongside partner Derek Hough—a feat she still can't believe. "It still doesn't feel real," Bindi—whose dad Steve Irwin died in 2006 at age 44—told Entertainment Tonight in a joint May 2024 interview with Robert and Terri, telling her brother and mom, "I think you guys would shock yourselves with how good you would be." And, in a move possibly hinting at his future, Robert admitted he was interested, adding, "I'd give that a go. Yeah, I'd give it a go. I'd do it." More from E! Dance pro Rylee Arnold, who placed fourth alongside gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik during season 33, also put her hopes of having Robert on the show into the ether. 'His sister Bindi was on the show,' the 19-year-old told Entertainment Tonight in May, 'and I remember watching his sister on the show when I was 8 years old, and I was like, 'Robert's like my age.' I was like, 'Please he has to be on the show at least one day for me.'' She added, 'Guys, let's all manifest it together.' The rest of the season 34 cast will be announced at a later date. While Robert was eager to join the Dancing With the Stars cast, some stars have turned down the opportunity. Read on to see who all has said no to the show.
