Former IPS officer, popular Bhojpuri singer are latest entrants in Prashant Kishor's party
A former IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre joined Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj Party Friday – a major boost in the arm for the outfit months ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls. Popular Bhojpuri singer and Sasaram resident Ritesh Pandey who gained popularity for his 2019 song, 'Hello Kaun', also joined the party. JP Singh, a resident of Saran, is a 2000-batch officer who recently took voluntary retirement. At that time, he had been serving as additional director general police, Crime Investigation Department, and was due to retire in July 2027. According to sources, Singh is eyeing a ticket from Chhapra seat. Kishor, who welcomed them both into the outfit, said: 'JP Singh is a great example of how a person from Bihar rose after having fought the poor system. He had studied in a government school at Ekma village of Saran, worked in the defence forces and later with Airport Authority of India before finally becoming an IPS officer. He will bring great value to the party'. Pandey, he said, was the son of a school teacher. 'His father had lost his job during Lalu Prasad's regime and had taken his family to Benares to give them good education,' he said. Singh said he quit his job to join Kishor's 'epoch-making movement'. 'My parents named me Jai Prakash, a great name in Indian history. When I saw that a person like Prashant Kishor, who had worked in the UN, could leave his comfort zone to work for Bihar, I felt the same pain and urge to do something for my state.' Pandey said he was 'inspired' by what Kishor was doing. 'I know how Bihar people used to face ill-treatment outside the state…I wanted to do my bit by deciding to strengthen his hands,' he said. ‘Main conspirators' of Rs 100 crore Bokaro land scam arrested in Jharkhand
Jharkhand's Crime Investigation Department Saturday arrested two prime accused in an alleged Rs 100 crore Bokaro forest and revenue land scam that involved selling acres of government land using forged documents. The suspects have been identified as Izhar Hussain and Akhtar Hussain, who have been accused of illegally selling 103 acres of forest and revenue land in Bokaro in 2012. They have been sent to judicial custody. According to senior officials, this is the first time that the 'main conspirators' were arrested. 'Yes, they are the ones who allegedly created all the fake documents on the basis of which the land was supposed to be transferred to them,' Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta said confirming the arrests. 'This is quite an old issue, but for the first time, the people behind it have been arrested.' According to the CID, the two suspects had made the land over to their names illegally in 2012, but the mutation was cancelled in 2016. In 2018, the Jharkhand High Court stayed the DC's cancellation order but directed the parties to approach a civil court for a title suit. Meanwhile, Izhar and Akhtar 'fraudulently' got the land removed from the restricted land list, then the allegedly created a fake auction document dated 1933 and transferred the land's power of attorney to Patna businessman, who eventually 'sold' it to a company in which his wife is the director. Investigations allegedly revealed that a fake 1933 auction document and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) were allegedly used in the transaction. According to officials, two companies were involved in the alleged deal and that the land changed hands days after the money was transferred to the seller's account. An FIR was lodged in the case in 2024. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate, which is also probing the alleged scam, conducted searches at 16 locations across Jharkhand and Bihar in April. Among the places raided were some government offices as well as the premises of one of the two companies. The ED's 2022 probe had allegedly revealed that the forest land in Tetulia was wrongly recorded as barren land in 2013 and that fraudulent sales were executed based on that. Video: In 'Pushpa' -Esque Scene, Lakhs Of Logs Float Down Stream In Himachal Pradesh
In a scene that could have been straight out of the blockbuster 'Pushpa: The Rise', wooden logs worth crores were spotted floating down a river in Himachal Pradesh. A viral video taken from atop a bridge shows lakhs of wooden logs floating near the Pandoh Dam in Mandi after floating downstream from Kullu. In the movie 'Pushpa: The Rise' the protagonist played by Allu Arjun is involved in the trade of red sandalwood and, to avoid getting caught at police checkpoints, he dumps the logs in a stream and retrieves them at a dam downstream. The Himachal video was from June 24 and the opposition said it could point to illegal timber cutting in forests in the state, with the smugglers employing a similar modus operandi. The state government, while pointing out that the logs could be a result of trees getting uprooted because of flash floods, has ordered a Crime Investigation Department (CID) inquiry. After a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Monday, his principal adviser Naresh Chauhan said in Hindi, "We took action immediately and asked officials from the forest department to find out what happened. People are saying there could be illegal tree felling, but the floating logs could be a result of cloudbursts. Trees get uprooted and other logs that lie on the forest floor for years are also swept away." "We have taken this very seriously, however, and Chief Minister Sukhu has ordered an inquiry to find out if there is any illegal felling. We are also helping everyone affected by the cloudbursts in the state," he added. Himachal Pradesh has seen at least 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts and 16 landslides since the onset of the monsoon on June 20. At least 78 people have died and over 30 are missing.
