Sarasota County Sheriff's Office investigating Nokomis shooting Saturday night
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in the area of Turner and Church Streets in Nokomis. Two vehicles fled the area after the shooting about 7:32 p.m. Saturday, June 28. One vehicle was described as a black BMW and the other a green Chevy Bronco. A news release said the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section is investigating and could provide more information later. A person of interest has been identified but is not currently in custody, the release stated. 205 screened, 12 summonses issued in Mukah crime prevention operation
Police personnel conducting checks on patrons at an entertainment outlet during the Crime Prevention Integrated Operation in Mukah on Thursday night. MUKAH (June 28): A total of 205 individuals were screened and 12 traffic summonses issued during a Crime Prevention Integrated Operation conducted by the Mukah police on Thursday night, as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and drug abuse in the district. The operation, which took place from 10pm to 11.59pm, was led by Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias and involved 27 personnel from various units, including the Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, Traffic, Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Logistics, and the Mukah police station. 'Police inspected 156 vehicles during the operation. 'A total of 12 traffic summonses were issued under Rule 257, and one motorcycle was seized for various offences,' said Muhamad Rizal when contacted yesterday. He added that the operation was carried out smoothly, with no untoward incidents or public complaints reported. 'Mukah police remain committed to ensuring public safety. Similar operations will continue to be carried out regularly to combat crime and suppress drug abuse at the grassroots level,' he stressed. Additionally, cheques were manipulated by writing crucial information with magic ink that would later disappear—allowing for alterations to names and amounts. After receiving complaints from several victims, police uncovered that the suspect had used counterfeit business cards and employee IDs to impersonate banking staff. Officials urge residents to steer clear of informal individuals promising assistance with bank-related processes in return for money. They recommend verifying the authenticity of representatives' credentials by reviewing official identification and using personal pens when signing documents. Johor police detain Singaporean driver after road rage dispute in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU, June 9 — Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. 'The complainant stated that while driving his BMW at 2.39pm in the Tun Aminah area, he was honked at by a Toyota Altis with a Singapore registration number, whose driver was dissatisfied because his path was blocked. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult).
