Atletico Madrid ‘warned off' signing key defensive target

Diego Simeone is ready to launch a summer squad rebuild following Atletico Madrid's FIFA Club World Cup exit. Los Rojiblancos were dumped out in the group stages following a poor showing in the USA earlier this month. Advertisement Simeone's charges will now head away on their summer breaks but the Argentinian coach is already planning for next season. Defence is rumoured to be a key area of focus for Simeone despite completing a permanent deal for France international Clement Lenglet from Barcelona. Atletico Madrid have been linked with several targets but interest in Bayer Leverkusen centre back Piero Hincapie has been rejected by the German club at this stage. Premier League side fire Atletico Madrid transfer warning Simeone remains keen on a move for Tottenham defender Cristian Romero after admitting he is a big fan of his fellow countryman. Advertisement Spurs' victory in the UEFA Europa League final has given the club a back door route into the Champions League next season and bolstered their finances in the process. Image via James Gill – Danehouse/Getty Images The pressure to sell Romero is now reduced and new boss Thomas Frank is keen to retain Romero alongside Micky van de Ven as his first choice centre back pairing as part of his bold plans for the squad. Tottenham set Romero asking price to Atletico Madrid As per the latest update from the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham will not be 'bullied' into accepting any offers that fall below their current transfer valuation of the 27-year-old. Advertisement Frank and the Spurs hierarchy will push for a minimum of £60m and they will only accept if Romero indicates his desire to leave North London for Madrid in July. The Premier League side could also have an extra incentive to retain Romero, with doubts growing over captain Son Heung-min staying beyond the summer, and they could offer the former Atalanta defender the armband for the 2025/26 campaign.

Arsenal hold talks with Premier League star

Tottenham are set to be joined by north London rivals Arsenal in the battle to sign Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, who is valued at £68m. According to the Sun, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has held talks with the 26-year-old's representatives. Eze has two years left on his Palace contract. Advertisement Talksport say the Gunners have switched their attention to Eze due to him being a cheaper alternative to Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. Spurs, meanwhile, are reluctant to sell Cristian Romero this summer and have set a high price tag on him to ward off interest from rival clubs, according to reports. Atletico Madrid are rumoured to be keen on signing the Argentine international and The Telegraph report that the north Londoners have set a £60m asking price for the 27-year-old as they battle to keep the defender at the club. Elsewhere, Manchester United are reportedly back in pole position to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, say the Mirror. Advertisement The 27-year-old is said to be willing to leave the Portuguese champions this summer, having scored 54 goals in 52 games last season. Elsewhere, Sky Sports are reporting that Jarrad Branthwaite is close to agreeing a new deal at Everton. The 23-year-old has had serious interest from Premier League and Champions League clubs, with Tottenham and Chelsea among the sides keen on the defender. Everton had been adamant about not selling Branthwaite this summer, who still has three years left on current deal. Sky Italia are reporting that Napoli will need to make a big financial commitment to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, who reportedly want a fee of €65 million, plus up to €5 million in add-ons. Advertisement The Telegraph say Newcastle have launched a triple bid to sign Brazil forward Joao Pedro, Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, 22, and Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga. Sky Sports report that RB Leipzig are keen on signing Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott. Finally, Fulham are believed to be pursuing a deal for Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish Super Lig side Goztepe according to the Athletic. The 23-year-old scored 17 goals and assisted a further ten, with Marco Silva's side reported to have made an offer of £13m, with Goztepe rejecting it and looking for at least £17m.

Football transfer rumours: Arsenal and Spurs to battle for Eberechi Eze?

Everyone t'up north (London) wants Eberechi Eze. Fierce rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are ready to battle it out for the winger, eager to procure his dazzling dribbling and finishing. Crystal Palace know their position in this and are willing to sell, but he will set any suitors back around £68m. Last season the England international scored and created eight goals in 34 league appearances to make him one of the most sought-after attackers in the country. Spurs do not plan to fund any of their summer business by selling Europa League winner Cristian Romero on the cheap. Atlético Madrid are flirting with the idea of signing him but the £60m sale demands will almost certainly put them off. Cristhian Mosquera is in talks with Arsenal over a potential move from Valencia. The Spaniard was part of their squad at the European Under-21 Championship and after elimination can focus on finding a new club, although his current employers are asking for £25m. The young centre-back has become a regular at the Mestalla, and can boast 82 appearances in La Liga before his 21st birthday, which happens to be this very day. ¡Feliz cumpleaños, Cristhian! Manchester United need young and hungry players, so they have decided to target a teenage Champions League winner in the form of the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery. Ruben Amorim will need to offload a few outcasts soon. Napoli and Juventus are open to signing Jadon Sancho but his £250,000-per-week wages are proving a stumbling block. Aston Villa are interested in bringing the Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara back to England. The Brazilian, who previously had a spell with Norwich, has flourished in Turkey, bringing a host of scouts to watch him play, but Unai Emery may be the most eager in acquiring him. After suffering a bit of pushback from clubs about signing their players, Newcastle are trying to solve their problem with £125m worth of bids on João Pedro, Anthony Elanga and James Trafford. The first two are valued in the region of £50m each by Brighton and Nottingham Forest, respectively, and it seems unlikely that Burnley will allow their No 1 to leave for £25m, but it is good to show willing. It may seem like Brentford are losing some of their best talents but they are pretty adept when it comes to replacing them. The latest set for a move to west London is Feyenoord's Antoni Milambo, who will cost about £17m with a further £4.25m in potential add-ons. Nicolas Kühn was a standout player at Celtic last season, alerting the rest of Europe to his obvious talent. Como have got on the blower to the Scottish champions to see how much the winger would cost but could face competition from Leipzig. Speaking of Celtic, their defender Greg Taylor is close to joining Paok.
