The Mighty Nein Season 1: Release date, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on July 25, 2025, 17:30 IST Last updated July 25, 2025, 11:03 IST If you've been counting down the days since The Legend of Vox Machina wrapped up its latest season, you're not alone. But now, there's even more to get excited about: The Mighty Nein —the next animated series based on Critical Role's second Dungeons & Dragons campaign—is officially dropping on November 19, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video. Yep, the chaotic crew of lovable outcasts, accidental heroes, and emotional wrecks (in the best way) is coming to life in animation. And if you thought Vox Machina brought the drama, just wait until you meet this bunch. When Exactly Is The Mighty Nein Coming Out? The release date was finally confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2025—and it's set for November 19. While there haven't been a ton of production updates, the creators have said the show is well past the halfway point. Voice work, animation tests, and storyboarding are mostly locked in, and fans got a sneak peek in 2024 of Fjord and Jester's first meeting. That short clip already had fans buzzing about the tone, style, and emotional depth. We don't have an official episode count yet, but it's expected to follow a similar format to Vox Machina —so around 30 minutes per episode, and yep, a TV-MA rating. Expect swearing, blood, trauma, and some very questionable decisions (you know the drill). Who's in the Cast? The best part? The original Critical Role cast is back to voice all of their characters. That means we're getting: Travis Willingham as Fjord , the broody half-orc warlock with a sea monster problem (hi, Uk'otoa). Laura Bailey as Jester , your favorite chaos-loving tiefling cleric who leaves drawings of dicks in holy books. Liam O'Brien as Caleb , the traumatized wizard who smells like old books and regret. Sam Riegel as Nott the Brave —later known as Veth —a goblin rogue trying to find her way home. Ashley Johnson as Yasha , a quiet barbarian with a seriously tragic backstory and a lot of swords. Marisha Ray as Beau , the human monk who punches problems until they stop being problems. Taliesin Jaffe doing double duty as Mollymauk Tealeaf , the flamboyant blood hunter, and later Caduceus Clay , the tea-drinking firbolg cleric who talks to mushrooms. And of course, Matthew Mercer will voice all the extra characters, monsters, and villains—just like he did in Vox Machina . On top of that, we've got Ming-Na Wen and Mark Strong joining the voice cast in undisclosed roles, which is already giving us chills. You just know they're going to be incredible. What's The Mighty Nein Actually About? Set in Wildemount, about 20 years after Vox Machina's big adventure, The Mighty Nein follows a group of broken, messy, occasionally criminal people who somehow end up saving the world (kind of). At first, they're just trying to survive. But when a dangerous magical artifact shows up—one that could literally reshape reality—they get dragged into something way bigger than themselves. This story leans more into political drama, redemption arcs, and serious emotional baggage, compared to the more traditional fantasy quest vibes of Vox Machina . Expect moral gray areas, inner demons, and some truly heartbreaking moments. Some standout arcs that will probably make it into the show: Fjord's connection to Uk'otoa , and the yellow orb that starts it all—leading the gang onto a stolen ship ( The Mistake ) and into high-seas danger with the pirate Avantika. Nott's journey to become Veth again and reconnect with her family, which is way more emotional than you might think. Caleb's past with the Cerberus Assembly , especially his old mentor Trent Ikithon, and how Dunamancy magic (read: timey-wimey chaos) plays into it. The gang's role in the War of Ash and Light , a tense conflict between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty. Oh, and the whole city made of brains and nightmares arc—aka Cognouza—which introduces Tharizdûn, the god of eternal darkness. It gets weird in the best possible way. Also, heads up: Mollymauk dies pretty early on. But don't worry, Taliesin's still around as Caduceus , who brings a completely different (and deeply comforting) vibe to the group. Critical Role's new Amazon-backed series is leaning hard into the art style that made Japanese anime so much money
Critical Role's "The Mighty Nein" drops on November 19. CR has also signed on for a fifth season of its other series, "The Legend of Vox Machina." That will be the last season of the Amazon-backed "TLOVM" — and a milestone for the nerdworld business. If there's one maxim the Critical Role team seems to be leaning into with its latest slate of Amazon-backed animation, it's to make the characters as hot as possible. And not just regular hot: Japanese anime-style hot. At San Diego Comic Con, the cofounders of the nerdworld business dropped the November 19 release date for their coming Prime Video animated series, "The Mighty Nein." The series is based on the team's second long-running "Dungeons & Dragons" campaign, which it streamed on Twitch and other platforms for 141 episodes from 2018 to 2021. The main characters in the "Mighty Nein" are voiced by their creators — the eight CR cofounders. There were also sneak peeks of the new character art. There's something for everyone! Japanese anime is a multibillion-dollar industry that the CR cofounders know well. Most of the team started their entertainment careers as anime voice actors. Matthew Mercer, the group's chief creative officer, was the English voice of the wildly popular anime, "Attack on Titan." He also voiced the devastatingly pretty Vincent Valentine, a fan favorite character in Square Enix's remake of the "Final Fantasy" video game series. At San Diego Comic Con, Prime Video announced "The Legend of Vox Machina" is getting its fifth and last season. The CR crew also announced that the hit show's fourth season will air in 2026. "TLOVM" was the initial project through which CR secured an $11.3 million Kickstarter fundraising round to create the show. It has aired three seasons of 12 episodes apiece so far. "It's so rare for any television series to get to tell a complete story, beginning to end, exactly as it was envisioned," said executive producers and Critical Role co-founders Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham in a press release. Critical Role Mighty Nein Show First Look, Release Date
NEIN! The day has finally arrived, Critical Role's second animated series, based on their second Dungeons & Dragons campaign, The Mighty Nein, finally has a release date, character art, AND a clip. Critical Role members Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Liam O'Brien, Sam Riegel, and Taliesin Jaffe were able to unveil some exciting news about The Mighty Nein, their second animated series with Prime Video, at their San Diego Comic Con panel. First, the new series will premiere on Nov. 19 on Prime Video. Based on Critical Role's second campaign, The Mighty Nein follows an unlikely group of fugitives and outcasts who come together. When a powerful arcane relic known as "The Beacon" falls into dangerous hands, it's up to the Mighty Nein to learn to work together to save the realm, while also harboring secrets of their own. The second campaign for Critical Role ran from 2018 to 2021 and spanned 141 episodes. Below is character art for each of the members of the Mighty Nein: Caleb, voiced by Liam O'Brien: Beau, voiced by Marisha Ray: Jester, voiced by Laura Bailey: Fjord, voiced by Travis Willingham: Mollymauk, voiced by Tailesin Jaffe: Nott, voiced by Sam Riegel: Yasha, voiced by Ashley Johnson: And here's a photo of the whole group together, which I will be weeping over for the foreseeable future: Yasha being so tall and big is very important to me. It was also revealed earlier this week that Matthew Mercer will voice Essek Thelyss in the series, alongside numerous other characters, like he does in The Legend of Vox Machina. Alongside our beloved Critical Role cast members, the first season of The Mighty Nein will also feature Mark Strong, Alan Cumming, Tim McGraw, Anika Noni Rose, Ming-Na Wen, Auli'i Cravalho, Rahul Kohli, Jonathan Frakes, and CR's beloved Robbie Daymond. Strong notably voiced the role of "Assembly Mage" in The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3, so Trent Ikithon, I know you when I see you, and I am ready to hate you (complimentary). And, to round out the exciting Mighty Nein news, Prime Video also released a first clip from the series, which features the Nein, minus Yasha, being interrogated, by someone voiced by Mercer. It seems like this is from an early plot of the campaign involving the carnival (IYKYK), so I am simply giddy with anticipation. Jester, my beloved, is already so perfect. I am weeping. ALSO WE GET OUR FIRST "TECHNICALLY" FROM JESTER! You can watch the full clip below: Be sure to watch The Mighty Nein when it premieres on Nov. 19 on Prime Video. Are you excited for The Mighty Nein? Are you a Critical Role fan or coming into this brand-new? Share all your excitement below! If you're interested in the OG campaign, you can watch (or rewatch) on YouTube or Beacon. The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4: Latest updates on release date, cast, and plot details
By Aman Shukla Published on July 24, 2025, 19:30 IST Last updated July 24, 2025, 15:33 IST Alright, Critical Role fans, let's talk about The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4! If you're anything like me, you've been riding the high of Season 3's epic finale and are dying to know what's next for our favorite ragtag adventurers. Amazon Prime Video's animated gem, born from the Dungeons & Dragons chaos of Critical Role's first campaign, has us all hooked. So, let's dive into the latest scoop on Season 4's release date, who's in the cast, and what the plot might have in store. When Can We Expect Season 4 to Hit Our Screens? Big news dropped on October 23, 2024, when Amazon gave the green light for Season 4, right before Season 3 wrapped up. But, as of now, there's no official release date. Bummer, right? Let's piece together what we know from the show's history to make a guess. Season 1 kicked off on January 28, 2022. Season 2 rolled out almost exactly a year later, on January 20, 2023. Season 3 took a bit longer, landing on October 3, 2024—about 20 months after Season 2. Those pesky 2023 Hollywood strikes probably slowed things down. So, what's the deal for Season 4? The animation wizards at Titmouse Inc. need time to work their magic, and that's no quick feat. My bet's on a release sometime between late 2025 and mid-2026. Who's Back for the Vox Machina Crew? The heart of The Legend of Vox Machina is its cast, and let's be real—the Critical Role gang brings these characters to life like no one else could. Based on everything we know, the main squad is coming back for Season 4: Laura Bailey as Vex'ahlia, the sharp-witted half-elf ranger who's always got a plan (and a bear). Liam O'Brien as Vax'ildan, her rogue twin who's got a knack for heartbreak. Taliesin Jaffe as Percy de Rolo, the gunslinger with a dark past and a fancy coat. Ashley Johnson as Pike Trickfoot, the pint-sized cleric with a giant heart. Marisha Ray as Keyleth, the druid who's still finding her footing as a leader. Sam Riegel as Scanlan Shorthalt, the bard who's equal parts ridiculous and loyal. Travis Willingham as Grog Strongjaw, the big guy with an even bigger love for ale and axes. Matthew Mercer juggling Trinket (Vex's bear buddy) and a ton of NPCs, because of course he does. No word yet on new voices joining the mix, but if Season 4 introduces fresh faces—or foes—we might hear some surprise casting. The Season 3 finale shook things up with the team splitting off, so I'm curious to see how the cast handles those changes. One thing's for sure: this crew's chemistry is pure gold. What's the Story for Season 4? (Spoilers Ahead!) Okay, if you haven't finished Season 3, turn back now because we're diving into spoiler territory! The Season 3 finale was a wild ride. Vox Machina took down Orthax and the Chroma Conclave, but victory came with a cost. The gang split up to chase their own paths: Scanlan hit the road with his daughter Kaylie for a father-daughter world tour. Vax tagged along with Keyleth to the Fire Ashari for her Aramenté trials. Percy and Vex, now officially a power couple, headed to Whitestone with Gilmore for some Winter's Crest festivities. Pike and Grog? They're just out to cause some glorious chaos. But then, boom—the final scene dropped a massive hint about what's next: The Whispered One (aka Vecna, but with a copyright-friendly name). His creepy cult, the Remnants, is scheming to bring him back by snatching souls. If you know Critical Role's campaign, you're probably screaming 'Vecna arc!' right now. Season 4 is likely to dive into this storyline, with Vox Machina reuniting to face a lich so powerful he makes dragons look like lizards. What can we expect? Here's my take: Huge Fights : Think battles in wild places like an underwater volcano or a city full of undead dwarves. The original campaign went big, and the show will too. Character Growth : Keyleth's trials are a big deal, and Vax's deal to save Percy might come back to haunt him. Plus, those relationships—Vax and Keyleth, Percy and Vex, Scanlan and Kaylie—are gonna tug at our heartstrings. New Baddies: The Remnants are up to no good, and their soul-stealing rituals sound like bad news for our heroes. The show's writers have a knack for tweaking the campaign to fit TV, so expect some surprises while keeping the core of the story intact. I'm already hyped for the emotional punches and ridiculous one-liners. Ahmedabad Plane Crash The Legend of Vox Machina Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication .
