Japan Crown Prince, Princess Visit Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka

Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and his wife, Crown Princess Kiko, who are the honorary presidents of Expo 2025 Osaka, visited the Saudi Pavilion participating in the global event, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday. Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion Ghazi Binzagr welcomed the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan upon their arrival. He commended the visit, saying it highlights the deep, historical, and friendly relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan. He emphasized the pivotal role of the expo in fostering human connection and dialogue among nations. The ambassador briefed the Japanese Crown Prince and Princess on the pavilion's components, including a model for Expo 2030 Riyadh. They viewed creative elements reflecting Saudi cultural identity and future aspirations and received commemorative gifts inspired by the heritage of AlUla, which features the first Saudi site to be included on the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List. Saudi-Japanese relations have seen rapid development over the past decades. In 1981, Saudi Arabia witnessed the first visit from the Japanese Imperial House, followed by another visit in 1994. In 2017, the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 initiative came to light, yielding over 80 joint projects across various fields, including renewable energy, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and healthcare, thereby strengthening the two countries' strategic partnership. The visit by the Crown Prince and Princess of Japan to the pavilion is part of their participation in the official Japan Day ceremony at Expo 2025 Osaka. It coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan, which falls on June 7, 2025. This historic occasion represents a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership based on mutual respect, cultural exchange, and constructive diplomatic cooperation.

Japan's Princess Kako addresses Brazil's Congress, meets with Lula in presidential palace

Japan's Princess Kako of Akishino, a niece of Emperor Naruhito, was welcomed on Wednesday by Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for a private ceremony on the latest leg of her 11-day tour of the South American nation. The younger daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko also addressed Congress and thanked Brazilians for hosting Japanese immigrants for more than a century. Her trip, which started on June 5, marks the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 'The efforts of the Japanese who came, and the Brazilians who went to Japan, are deepening our bilateral relationship of friendship," Kako told Brazilian lawmakers. 'I hope that the relationship between the two countries is a long lasting one.' Congress speaker Hugo Motta told the princess he hopes Brazil's ethanol 'can help Japan reduce its dependency on fossil fuels.' Brazil has the largest population of people of Japanese descent in the world, estimated at about 2.7 million. About half of those live in Sao Paulo state, official figures show, where the princess last week received the state's highest honor from Gov. Tarcisio de Freitas. Emperor Naruhito has no male children, which makes his brother Akishino, Princess Kako's father, the first successor in line. Japan's tradition does not allow women to take the throne. Princess Kako will arrive in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, where she will visit the Christ the Redeemer statue and a museum of Japanese immigration. The last part of her trip will take place in the city of Foz do Iguacu, where the world famous Iguacu falls are located.

Former Japanese princess Mako gives birth to first child

Mako Komuro, the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, has given birth to her first child, the Imperial Household Agency said Friday. In a regular press conference, Naomasa Yoshida, grand master of the Crown Prince's Household, did not disclose the baby's sex or date of birth, but said that the Crown Prince and Crown Princess as well as their other children, Princess Kako and Prince Hisahito, are delighted about the birth and are wishing for the happiness of the Komuro family. The newborn is the first grandchild for the Crown Prince and Crown Princess. Regarding the timing of the announcement, the grand master said: "This is a matter for a person who has left the Imperial Family, and we had hoped that she would spend her time in a quiet environment. We decided to make the announcement, however, in light of some media reports (about the birth)." Mako, 33, left the Imperial Family after marrying Kei Komuro, 33, a former schoolmate at International Christian University in Tokyo, in October 2021. They moved to the United States together the following month. Kei passed the New York state bar examination on his third attempt in 2022 and now works at a law firm there.
