It took me 2:05 to complete today's NYT Mini. Not a horrible time for a Saturday Mini! On my first pass of the Across words, I only got CUBA, BLUESKY and AUDREY. I think the clue for 7 Across is perhaps too broad of a generalization of that platform, but it is what it is. Moving to the Down direction, I only missed CAMERAS and UNUSED there. I mean, I think ityou don't want it won Cuba Gooding Jr., you see why he won the Oscar for. It's a really incredible performance. It's a really nuanced performance as well. The relationship between him and his wife, and their dealings with the agent and the way they talk about Gary, his contracts and injuries, and itI, I found again, upon rewatching it, someone now who lives in this world finds that to be very accurate. And, you know, it's funny because I was like watching with my husband who's not really into football and sort of the business of football, and he was asking me like, would it actually happen as well? And I was like, this is actually pretty accurate. And, um, so I think it's just nice, beyond the drama of it, and it'sit's at heart a romantic comedy, of course, but it is nice to see the business of football and being a player I thought represented pretty accurately. Even just the agency politics is really thatI thought was like, as I watched it as an adult, obviously, I, I probably watched it as a kid, but it was like one of those, like, whatever, and then, but as an adult I was like, oh wow, that's actually kind of real, like as far as how that kind of unfolds, and no, that's a great point, too, because the even just talking about like the player-agent dynamics, everyone always thinks, oh yeah, they're always on the same page, too, like everyone thinks, oh, they're always in lockstep, and people fight with their agents way more than people realize, and you know, and the whole dynamic of the agent works for the player or the person, you know, not even just including athletes here. Advertisement That works for it, but that's also a dynamic because it's, I need you, but I don't need you, you know, and that can lead to the frustration incentives align. Agent want them to maximize the money or take the risk? And of course he is his only client, that's the case's president, and I think the way the agent, when Jerry goes out on his own, separate from the Cuba Gooding Jr. part, and he, um. Uh, uh, tries to get the number one overall draft pick. I can't remember the name of the quarterback, uh, and they lie to his face and end up going with J. Moore's character; that's all super stuff like that happens all the time.

It was a less a case of show me the money and more a case of pose for my picture as Jerry Maguire star Cuba Gooding Jr ventured out in Cannes on Sunday. The American actor was accosted by two French police officers while taking advantage of a break between red carpet appearances over the weekend. Gooding Jr, 57, happily obliged the star-struck policemen, who appeared more interested in enforcing photo opportunities than the law as they chatted to the Hollywood star. With temperatures soaring across the Mediterranean, he looked relaxed in a linen overshirt and white chinos while out for a stroll close to the waterfront. The actor is in town to receive the Global Short Film Awards 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 10th Annual Cannes Global Short Film Awards Dinner on Tuesday. Gooding Jr. is also set to receive an award at the iSuccess gala, while he also promotes two new films, Quantum Supremacy and Line of Fire. But he enjoyed a reunion of sorts with former Jerry Maguire co-star Tom Cruise at the Cannes premiere of Mission: Impossible 8 - The Final Reckoning on May 14. The reunion comes nearly 30 years after the hit film, a critical and commercial hit, debuted in theatres. Cruise played the sports agent title character in Jerry Maguire, with Gooding Jr. playing his only client after leaving a huge agency, NFL wide receiver Rod Tidwell - whose famous catchphrase was 'show me the money.' A source told Page Six that the meet-up between the longtime co-stars was, 'wonderful,' though no further details were revealed. While Cruise continues to be on top of the movie world, Gooding Jr. has been on the comeback trail after some legal entanglements. He settled a lawsuit against him in 2020 with a woman who accused the actor of raping her. Just two years later in 2022, he was accused of forcibly touching a woman in Times Square in New York City. He would later plead guilty to a lesser harassment charge in that case as well. The reunion comes nearly 30 years after the hit film debuted in theaters, which was both a critical and commercial hit. While Cruise was in town to premiere his final Mission: Impossible film, Gooding Jr. was there to receive a few awards.
