Cyberport 5 is a 10-storey building with a panoramic sea view located at the northwest of the park, occupies 1.6 hectares with a gross floor area of approximately 66,000 square metres, among which 36,000 square metres were office and co-working space representing approximately 30% of the current total floor area. The new building features curvilinear and cascading design, incorporating atriums, skylights and outdoor terraces. It fosters exchanges and interaction among users in flexible workspaces and dedicated collaborative areas, with elevated walkways connecting to the adjacent campus. Cyberport 5 also includes advanced technological infrastructure, housing a Tier-III+ grade sustainable data centre as the data services platform. With proximity to Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Centre (AISC) and Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX), it will provide high power density, top-performance data storage and computing capabilities. Public stablecoin adoption a top priority in Hong Kong with new digital asset blueprint
The Hong Kong government has pledged to promote the public adoption of licensed stablecoins, unveiling a broad set of new digital asset (DA) policies as the city seeks to cement its role as a global cryptocurrency hub while serving as a test bed for Beijing's fintech aspirations. In the 'Policy Statement 2.0 on the Development of Digital Assets in Hong Kong' released on Thursday, the government called for market proposals to test stablecoin applications in public scenarios and a legislative proposal to expand tax concessions on profits from blockchain assets. The blueprint set a 'vision for digital asset development and showcases the practical use of tokenisation through application, with a view to boosting the diversification of use cases', said Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po. Starting from the 2025-26 financial year, privately offered funds and family-owned investment holding vehicles could claim tax breaks on profits from transactions involving cryptocurrencies and tokenised securities – bringing digital assets into parity with traditional assets such as stocks and bonds – pending approval by the Legislative Council. Under the plan, the government would support testing new stablecoin use cases given the strong corporate interest, especially in cross-border trade and settlement, according to the document. The government-backed start-up incubator Cyberport would also launch a new funding scheme to support high-impact blockchain and digital asset projects. The government said that regulators, law enforcement agencies and technology providers would collaborate to develop digital asset infrastructure.

Hong Kong plans new AI supercomputing centre to boost tech hub status
The Hong Kong government is set to enhance its computing power support for start-ups as part of its ambition to become a leading technology hub, according to the city's innovation chief, as local start-ups seek global clients at one of Europe's largest technology shows. Hong Kong planned to establish a new supercomputing centre at Sandy Ridge in the Northern Metropolis – part of a government blueprint that aims to transform a large swathe of land in the New Territories into an economic hub, according to Secretary of Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong. Speaking to the Post on the sidelines of the VivaTech conference in Paris on Friday, Sun said the centre would provide computing power for Hong Kong and other parts of the Greater Bay Area, as well as surrounding regions. Hong Kong's first Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Centre, launched in Cyberport in December, is expected to deliver 3,000 petaflops of computing power by the end of this year. Cautious route best for Hong Kong's self-driving cars
Autonomous driving still has more doubters than backers in Hong Kong, but the city is now taking steps that could get more people on board with the technology. Trial runs set for the next five months are worth supporting to develop driverless services. After allowing passenger trials on routes within the airport island, the government plans to allow tests on more complex roads, including at Cyberport in Southern district and Tung Chung. Vehicle speeds will also be raised to 50km/h (30mph). The trial runs only became possible in March under a new regulatory framework for self-driving vehicles. By late last year, two pilot licences had been issued so a dozen cars operated by Baidu Apollo Go could be tested. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said official introduction of passenger services and commercial applications such as ride-hailing could happen in the next couple of years. Chan told lawmakers 'significant' progress had paved the way for 'several technological leaps', with the testing scale expanded from a single private car to 10 vehicles operating simultaneously. Some have grown impatient with Hong Kong lagging behind the rest of China. Ride-hailing services using autonomous vehicles are prevalent in some areas of the mainland.
