Highly touted Texas A&M transfer opts to sign a free agent deal with the Blue Jays
Texas A&M has lost another commitment to Major League Baseball. This time, it's highly touted transfer Maddox Latta, who was expected to compete immediately for the starting shortstop position. On Tuesday evening, Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reported that Latta will be signing with the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent, a tough loss for the Aggies. Latta is a standout defender with a .979 fielding percentage and a wealth of experience. Offensively, he batted .362, drove in 27 runs, stole 14 bases, and tallied 15 doubles. The MLB Draft continues to be a volatile time for college baseball coaches, as rosters can change dramatically in just a few days. Texas A&M had more than seven committed players either drafted or signed to free agent deals during the draft window. While this hurts the Aggies' 2026 lineup, the return of Ben Royo and the addition of Travis Chesnut at least provide more infield depth. We'll have to wait a few more days to see which players officially ink deals before diving into an early analysis of the 2026 Aggie baseball team. Michigan State starting pitcher earns another All-American honor
Michigan State baseball found themselves a gem in ace pitcher Joseph Dzierwa, who in 2025, showed out in full display and made his name known to the baseball world. Dzierwa took home more awards in 2025 than most can count, and on Thursday, he added to his trophy case. A fourth All-American accolade was announced in favor of Dzierwa with D1 Baseball announcing their All-American lists, featuring the Spartans lefty as a third team All-American. The awards come on the heels of a season in which Dzierwa tossed a 2.36 earned run average in 14 starts, going along with a WHIP of 0.96 and tossing over 100 strikeouts. This junior campaign for Dzierwa has solidified himself as a top MLB prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft coming up this summer, and he is sure to be one of the top picks in the draft. Texas A&M HC Michael Earley has made his first staff change of the 2025 offseason
Texas A&M HC Michael Earley has made his first staff change of the 2025 offseason With the news that Texas A&M baseball coach Michael Earley will return for the 2026 season after Athletic Director Trev Alberts made his final decision on Friday, it was assumed that staff changes were afoot, knowing that last season's issues were much more than poor play by the roster. However, while some thought hitting coach Caleb Longley would be the first to go, Earley has made a somewhat surprising change to start the new regime. On Saturday, it was revealed that infield coach Will Fox will not be retained. Fox has been with the program for the past six seasons and is considered one of the up-and-coming coaches with a bright future. According to D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers, Fox could join McNeese as the program's newest assistant. Before serving as an assistant coach, Fox spent the previous three seasons as the director of video and analytics and his first two years in College Station as director of player personnel and video coordinator. Texas A&M's infield defense was average at best last season, leading to several game-changing errors in key games down the stretch. While this is minor compared to the team's consistency issues at the plate, this is likely just the first change Earley will make on the staff heading into the summer. Who will win the Auburn Regional? D1Baseball weighs in
Who will win the Auburn Regional? D1Baseball weighs in Auburn has the tools to emerge victorious in this weekend's regional. Will they get it done? Auburn baseball's postseason journey gets underway on Friday evening when it faces Central Connecticut at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park in Auburn. The Tigers are gearing up to host its third regional in four years, and will look to advance to the Super Regionals for the fourth time since 2018. Will they get the job done? D1Baseball dropped its predictions for each regional on Friday, including their picks for the Auburn Regional. According to D1Baseball's picks, Auburn has an 81% chance to emerge victorious in its regional this weekend. Nine members of D1Baseball's staff including Kendall Rogers and Mark Etheridge forecasted Auburn to win, with two members, Aaron Fitt and Bradley Smart, picking NC State. Central Connecticut, Stetson, and NC State will each provide its own set of challenges for Auburn this weekend, but NC State's greatest quality will be its pitching. In its preview of the Auburn Regional, D1Baseball named NC State's starting rotation the best in the regional, with Dom Fritton being the most dominant pitcher in the staff with 102 strikeouts through 83 1/3 innings. The Tigers would miss Fritton should Auburn and NC State win its Friday games, as he is scheduled to pitch against Stetson in game one on Friday. Auburn would most likely face Ryan Marohn on Saturday, who boasts a team-low 3.72 ERA with 81 punchouts. How will Auburn combat the Wolfpack's elite pitching staff? In terms of offense and defense, the Tigers have the edge. D1Baseball gave Auburn the title of best offensive and defensive team in the regional. Offensively, five players are hitting above .300, three players have double-digit home run totals, and eight players have 30-or-more RBI. Defensively, D1Baseball highlights the sneaky good team Auburn has in the field. Though it's not necessarily a team you think of when you think about electric defensive players, Auburn is the best defensive team in this regional, as it has a .982 fielding percentage and no player on the roster with more than eight errors on the season. They might not be the team that turns in the most acrobatic play during the weekend, but they're the team most likely to make every single routine play. Auburn baseball opens the Auburn Regional on Friday night at 6 p.m. CT against Central Connecticut. Click here to see the full Auburn Regional schedule. Final projection for LSU baseball ahead of NCAA tournament bracket reveal
Final projection for LSU baseball ahead of NCAA tournament bracket reveal On Sunday, LSU baseball learned it would host an NCAA Tournament Regional next weekend. That came as no surprise as the Tigers were a lock for a top-sixteen seed. The Sunday announcement only listed the 16 host sites. The NCAA wants to give those locations a head start so they can be ready to roll this week. However, the full bracket and official seeding position of those 16 squads won't be released until 11 a.m. CT on Monday. LSU fans are confident the Tigers have done enough to earn a top-eight national seed, meaning LSU hosts a Super Regional if it takes care of business in the regional. LSU's resume was strong entering the SEC Tournament, and the Tigers padded it with a win over Texas A&M before falling to Ole Miss on Saturday. With just a few hours to go until the bracket is revealed, here are the final projections for LSU baseball's seeding position. LSU Wire Projection LSU sits No. 10 in the RPI rankings, lower than where most of the projected national seeds rank. But I think LSU's in a good spot anyway. LSU is 43-14 on the year and 19-11 in SEC play. Most of LSU's struggles in the conference schedule came on the road, which is easier for the committee to forgive. LSU was 30-5 at home and 5-1 at neutral sites. LSU had a strong finish to the season, notching series wins over Tennessee and Arkansas in the final month of conference play. The Tigers' resume has some weak spots, so does any resume that would take LSU's spot in the top eight. I think LSU gets the top-eight seed it's looking for. LSU lands at No. 6. D1Baseball D1Baseball dropped its final prediction on Monday morning. On Sunday, D1Baseball had LSU at No. 5. Now, the Tigers sit at No. 7, still making the cut. 64Analytics 64Analytics took to social media to post their final tournament projection. LSU fans will be happy to see the Tigers at No. 5.
