Farmers forced to buy addl goods to obtain DAP

Jaipur: Already hit by unavailability of DAP fertiliser at a time when the Kharif crop has to be sown, farmers across the state are now raising concerns about unfair practices in DAP fertiliser distribution. According to them, to buy DAP, they are being forced to purchase additional products, including fertilisers and pesticides. While struggling to obtain DAP for their sowing needs, farmers in districts like Sriganganagar, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu, and Dausa face pressure from traders to buy costly pesticides and sprays alongside the fertiliser. Agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena has acknowledged this issue and promised to act by initiating a campaign to stop these unethical trading practices. "It is the sowing time for cotton and guar. When we visit the trader, he will first claim that DAP is not available. Later, after seeing our urge to get it, he will give DAP at Rs 1,350 per 50 kg sack. But DAP is sold only when we take other bioproducts, including Nano Urea, Phosphorus, or Zinc. It means if we want to buy DAP, we need to purchase additional products worth Rs 500 to Rs 600," Amar Singh, a farmer from Sriganganagar, told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo He added that even at cooperative stores, this malpractice is taking place. "Most of the fertiliser companies first create a fake shortage of DAP, and when there are hues and cries, they ask farmers to buy other products along with DAP," Singh added. The situation is similar in districts like Sikar. "Not only DAP, even for other fertilisers when we visit shops, we are asked to buy other products," said Madan Lal, a farmer from Sagoth village in the district. Some days ago, minister Meena had raided a place in Suratgarh and distributed 3,000 packets of DAP. He had said, "If a farmer needs only DAP, why should he buy other products too? Farmers are being exploited in the name of fertilisers and seeds. I will ensure continuous campaigns to address this issue." Umno must decide: 'Are we going solo for GE16?' says Asyraf Wajdi

RANTAU PANJANG: Umno must decide whether it will go solo and contest all 191 parliamentary seats in the next general election, said party secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. "These are the questions we need to address," he said, adding the importance of charting a clear path forward for the 16th General Election (GE16), which is less than two years away. Speaking at the opening of the Rantau Panjang Umno division delegates' meeting today, Asyraf said the party must regain its dominance and strengthen internal unity to avoid divisions that could jeopardise its chances at the polls. "We must not allow 'cah keting' (backstabbing) or internal divisions to persist. "Strengthening the party is crucial in defending Islam and upholding the Malay agenda," he said. He noted that while Umno rarely faces direct contests with DAP—pointing out that 40 seats are traditionally uncontested between the two—the DAP remains wary of Umno forging alliances with others. "We do not go head-to-head with DAP or PKR in most areas. Our main political opponent is Perikatan Nasional (PN)," he said. Asyraf also reminded members that Umno's goal is not about clinging to power, but about safeguarding the rights of Malays and the sanctity of Islam. "Every party has been given a chance to govern, but it was clear that the best administration was under Umno, especially during Datuk Seri Najib Razak's leadership," he said. He called on members to place full trust in party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and to rally behind the party's leadership strategy. "To achieve our goals is not impossible, but the top leadership must be sensitive to the needs of grassroots leaders. "Don't waste time on leadership choices. Let's focus on winning GE16 first," he added.

PAS playing victim after own leader's racist post: DAP

DAP has hit back at PAS after the latter accused the government party of stoking racial sentiments over the promotion of a non-Malay to lieutenant general in the armed forces. Turning the tables on PAS by claiming the Islamist party holds no regard for non-Malays' contributions to the nation, DAP vice-chairperson Syahredzan Johan took aim at allegations by PAS supreme council member Zuhdi Marzuki yesterday. Amid ongoing controversy over Sungai Buloh PAS division chief Zaharuddin Muhammad's remarks appearing to...

Hannah can't interfere in FAM's affairs, MCA Youth leader told

DAP leader Yap Yee Vonne said Neow Choo Seong was the clear manifestation of MCA's 'split personality' in the unity government. PETALING JAYA : An aide to Hannah Yeoh has slammed MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong for urging the youth and sports minister to resign over her supposed inaction on issues involving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). Yeoh's political secretary, Yap Yee Vonne, said FAM's statutes underline that the association must be run independently and 'avoid any undue political interference'. She also said that Fifa's statutes outline that national football associations should not allow their affairs to be influenced by third parties. 'Even so, the ministry has taken the initiative to provide a sports dispute committee because the Madani government is committed to providing resolution channels for all sports, not just football. 'If everything needs to be solved by the minister, we might as well dissolve all associations and hand everything to Putrajaya. 'My advice: if you don't understand sports governance structures, it's better to stay silent,' Yap, an appointed DAP central executive committee member, said in a statement. Neow accused Yeoh of washing her hands of FAM's issues after the minister said she did not know of claims of internal politics in Harimau Malaya as her ministry did not interfere with FAM and the management of the national squad. The MCA man said it was Yeoh's responsibility to understand the issues in sports and look for solutions, instead of using the 'excuse' of not wanting to interfere. Neow, a special officer (international relations) to deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof, also said Yeoh should step down as minister if she was incapable of doing so. Yap said Neow was free to criticise but should not be 'lazy' with his facts, especially if his goal was simply to score political points. 'It is truly baffling that Neow, a special officer to another minister, can so blatantly violate public services department regulations by demanding the resignation of another minister. 'Neow is the clear manifestation of the split personality of MCA today in the Madani government,' she added.

Police report filed against Sungai Buloh PAS chief over ‘inflammatory' post

Published on: Friday, June 27, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 27, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: The police report was filed at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters last night. (DAP pic) PETALING JAYA: A police report has been lodged against Sungai Buloh PAS chief Zaharudin Muhammad over his recent social media post allegedly inciting racial sentiments by speculating about the possibility of a Malaysian of Chinese descent becoming prime minister. Kolektif Jalan Teruih, the Seberang Perai Tengah Youth Council, and Anak Muda Permatang Pauh said that Zaharudin's act was a form of provocation disguised as political satire, aimed at inciting racial tensions in a sly and irresponsible manner. The report was filed by Kolektif Jalan Teruih coordinator Nazirullah Nordin at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters at 9.05pm yesterday. 'On the battlefield, there is no room for racial sentiment – only loyalty, courage, and love for the nation. It is only right that we firmly reject any attempt to stain the military with racial politics,' the groups said in a joint statement. The groups also said that the army was the nation's final line of defence, deserving of respect, dignity, and support, not mockery or weaponised to create fear. They called for Zaharudin to be investigated under the Sedition Act and the Communications and Multimedia Act. Zaharudin had attempted to defend his now-deleted Facebook post which included a photo of Johnny Lim, who was promoted to armed forces lieutenant-general earlier this week, becoming the first Malaysian of Chinese descent to attain the three-star rank. The PAS man said his post was aimed at raising awareness about the possibility of Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa holders having children in Malaysia, seeking citizenship, and even voting in the country. He claimed the programme might result in an influx of foreigners into the country who would then apply for citizenship. That would allow for a 'prime minister born from among these foreigners by 2058', he said. Zaharudin, the son-in-law of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, also claimed to have included Lim's photo in his post merely for 'decorative purposes'. It was not intended to convey any explicit or implicit message, he said. DAP deputy secretary-general Steven Sim called for legal action to be taken against Zaharudin, while PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the post went against the Islamic party's stance. The MM2H Consultants Association meanwhile urged Zaharudin to apologise for claiming that the MM2H programme could lead to visa holders eventually becoming citizens and voting in Malaysia. Its president, Anthony Liew, said the programme's policy clearly states that MM2H passes cannot be converted. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
