Dad jumps into ocean to save daughter who fell overboard on Disney cruise ship

A horrifying moment turned into a harrowing rescue when a father leapt into the ocean to save his daughter, who fell overboard while on a Disney cruise ship on its way back to South Florida. Crew members from the Disney Dream rescue team pulled the girl and her father into a small boat on Sunday as the cruise ship was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from the Bahamas on the last day of the voyage, according to Disney and passengers who recorded the rescue on video. Passengers were alerted that someone had fallen overboard by an announcement over the ship's loudspeakers, passenger Kevin Furuta said in a social media post. 'On the last day of our Dream voyage and it is an at Sea Day. A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her. Right after the incident we heard on the loud speaker MOB Port side!! The captain slowed the ship and turned it around, and then they deployed a tender ship with people on it to go get them, and we saw them rescue the dad and daughter,' Amador added. A TikTok video shared by user Noeayala32 showed the man treading water with his daughter in his arms. He handed her over to the Disney Dream rescue team before getting in the boat. In a second video, shared from the same account, the girl is sitting close to a woman as the boat is lifted back to the cruise ship. In a statement, a Disney spokesperson said, 'We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes.' 'We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,' the company added. Disney Cruise rescue: Hero dad's brave rescue after daughter falls into ocean

A Disney Dream cruise turned into a scene of high-stakes heroism on June 29 when a little girl fell overboard as the ship sailed between The Bahamas and Florida. Her father jumped into the ocean to save her, sparking an emergency response captured on video and shared widely on social media. According to initial reports and passenger accounts, the girl fell from Deck 4, an area featuring a walking track lined with plexiglass safety barriers. 'A little girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her,' passenger Mary Ann Sutherland wrote in a Facebook post, adding, 'apparently the dad sat her on the railing.' Passenger Kevin Furuta described the tense moment: 'Her dad went in after her. Right after the incident, we heard on the loudspeaker, 'MOB [Man overboard] Port side!!' Thankfully, the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!' The emergency announcement of 'Mr. M.O.B.'—the code for 'man overboard'—rang out over the ship's intercom, prompting crew members to launch a rescue operation. The Daily Mail reported that the father was able to keep his daughter afloat for about 20 minutes in the ocean until Disney Cruise Line staff reached them with a lifeboat. Video footage posted by passenger Janice Martin-Asuque showed the rescue boat approaching the pair in choppy seas before bringing them aboard. According to the Disney Dream Cruise Ship Facebook Group, the girl fell from the ship's fourth deck, prompting her father to jump in after her. In a statement to USA TODAY, a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson commended the crew for their fast action: 'The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.' Multiple passengers confirmed the incident occurred while the Disney Dream was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale following a four-night Bahamian itinerary. The cause of the fall remains under investigation. Disney Cruise Line has not yet confirmed how the child ended up over the railing, which is designed to prevent such accidents. Both the father and daughter were reportedly unharmed after the ordeal.

'It's time to move on' - fans on Dominic Calvert-Lewin departure

[Getty Images] We asked for your views on Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving Everton this summer and whether you wished he would have stayed. Here are some of your comments: Jack: I think it's best for both DCL and Everton that he moves on. He's not the player he was two or three years ago. His persistent injuries have not helped so, thank you for your time here and good luck in the future. Advertisement Tony: Although I appreciate his initial hard work and goals, his later years were more about his injuries than his goals and output. A team cannot progress with injury prone players. So with a heavy heart, we wish him all the best for the future. Andy: Calvert-Lewin has done a job for the last few seasons but if we're going to escape the relegation battles, we need to find a striker who will deliver more and push us up the table. Shake hands and wish him the best. Chris: It's a shame we couldn't hold on to him for one more season as a squad player with a generous contract until we could get a new striker. Ian: DCL was offered a contract by Everton as were other players who have now left. You cannot keep offering top dollar salaries and extensive contracts when the player is unproductive, struggling for form and subject to numerous injuries. Good luck to DCL but in reality, it's his loss not Everton's. Advertisement Paul: I do like Dominic but it's time to move on, he just can't stay fit and score regular goals. We have to adapt and ask the rest of the squad to contribute to goals, it's how most teams play now and it's makes sense. Jamie: His decision best suits all parties. Some really memorable headers at the Gwladys Street end but overall, he always struck me as a someone who played within himself. Almost as if he was scared of getting injured - again.
