25 July 2025 00:35 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Abu Dhabi's waterfront will be lit again this year when Manar, the capital's large-scale light art exhibition, returns in launched in 2023 by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), Manar Abu Dhabi transforms the city's coastline into a mesmerising gallery of light sculptures, projections and interactive installations and year's edition, Manar 2.0, will feature the work of 35 artists hailing from across the globe, including the UAE, Japan, France, Mexico, assembling an extraordinary mix of perspectives and the names announced are teamLab, Carsten Höller, Shezad Dawood, Ahmed Al Areef Al Dhaheri and Nujoom meaning 'lighthouse' in Arabic, is not a typical art exhibition. The installations will appear across several sites in the city, including Saadiyat, Jubail and Fahid Island, as well as along the Corniche and the Eastern event is designed to be experienced from multiple perspectives, whether you're walking along the beachfront, riding in a dhow, or watching from the year's programme will explore themes of nature, light, and creative connection. Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced a dynamic line-up of partners for the highly anticipated 14th Terra World Congress on Earthen Architecture in Al Ain, to be held from 13 to 16 April 2026. Featuring a series of lectures, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, design competitions, site tours, and an award ceremony, amongst other activities, the comprehensive programme, held under the theme 'Managing Change in Earthen Cultural Landscapes' has been developed in collaboration with some of the world's foremost institutions in heritage conservation, architecture, and sustainability with the goal of fostering critical dialogue and driving innovation in earthen architecture. The Congress is co-organised with ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Earthen Architectural Heritage (ICOMOS- ISCEAH). Key partners are the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage (ALIPH Foundation), the International Center for Earthen Construction (CRATerre), and the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), in addition to Proterra, So Hath - 100 Hands Foundation for Building Artisans, the Royal Institute for British Architects – GCC chapter (RIBA-GCC), Al Ain Municipality, the International Scientific Committees of ICOMOS on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ICOMOS-ISCARSAH), Cultural Landscapes (ICOMOS-ISCCL), Heritage Documentation (ICOMOS-CIPA), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Climate Heritage Network, ICCROM Heritage Place Lab, and several local universities, including Abu Dhabi University, United Arab Emirates University, and Zayed University. All partner activities will take place prior, during, and after the Congress, under the key themes of the event including 'Transmitting Earthen Heritage and Architecture', 'Safeguarding Earthen Cultural Landscapes', 'Innovations in Earthen Architecture', and 'Resilience to Vulnerabilities of Earthen Cultural Landscapes'. Al Ain City's selection as the 2026 host marks a significant milestone for the UAE as the first Arab country to host this global event, positioning the nation as an influential actor in the field of earthen architecture, both regionally and globally. The 14th Terra World Congress underscores the dedicated efforts of DCT Abu Dhabi to promote, preserve, and protect earthen heritage as a key feature of the nation's architectural and urban identity. The congress will feature a wide range of professional activities, including training sessions and workshops on artificial intelligence, digital publishing, scriptwriting, audiobook production, and game design. It will also cover sustainable business model development in the digital age. The Academy is managed under the stewardship of Les Roches, a globally acclaimed hospitality and leisure higher education institution, with the objective of providing hospitality skills and academic knowledge to nurture homegrown talent in the UAE and the region. The two-week immersive programme for Emirati students aged 17 to 21 will run from 14-24 July 2025, nurturing the next generation of Emirati leaders in tourism and hospitality through hands-on training and cultural engagement. The partnership with Abu Dhabi Hospitality Academy – Les Roches brings an elevated level of academic and practical expertise to the programme while integrating elements that celebrate Emirati culture and heritage. The camp combines global hospitality standards with local traditions to foster a new cohort of Abu Dhabi-grounded, globally minded professionals. H.E.
