With ‘The Batman: Part II' Script In, Skepticism Rises About ‘Brave And The Bold'
The Batman After about sixty updates from James Gunn that Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II sequel script would finally get turned in, it finally has, in fact, been turned in, as broadcast on social media yesterday. As of now, the film still has an October 1, 2027 release date after being pushed back several times, but we'll see if just over two years from script completion to release is actually enough time or if it may be pushed again. This news comes in conjunction with an eye-raising quip from trade outlet THR's Heat Vision blog, saying that while we can stop asking James Gunn about The Batman: Part II script… Batman: The Brave and The Bold is supposed to be the DCU's introduction to a separate, non-The Batman, Batman, but there's an eternal debate over whether Robert Pattinson's version may just be merged into the DCU instead. Gunn has said that The Brave and the Bold is still moving forward and its alleged 2028 release window has not been delayed. That said, he has always said, 'Never say never' when asked the Pattinson question. The Batman There are a lot of weird questions about all of this. The Brave and the Bold does not have a script or even a writer, at least not one that's publicly shared. The Brave and the Bold does have a director in the form of Andy Muschietti. He directed the DCEU's Flash movie, a film that Gunn raved about, but went on to be one of the biggest comic book movie bombs of all time, so it stands to reason to ask if Muschietti should still be doing the all-important introduction to the DCU's Batman. If there is no Pattinson merge, then we have two parallel, high-profile Batmans running around DC in films likely released within a year of each other, and The Batman Part II will have other spin-off shows like The Penguin and eventually a third film. The longer this goes, the more the needle would seem to lean in favor of a merge, something that most fans seem to be in support of, given the positive reception to The Batman's universe. It's a way different tone than what we're about to get with Gunn's Superman, but that's sort of the point and how it works in the comics as well. We just don't know, but at this point, things are getting a little weird with all this. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Superman's Early Reactions Claim It's Complete Opposite of Man of Steel
With James Gunn's nearing its theatrical release date, early reactions to the first entry in the new DCU have leaked onto the internet following a recently conducted screening. Some of the reviews have compared Gunn's take on the title character to Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, noting a sharp contrast between the two directors' visions. The new Superman film has received its first reviews, with reactions pouring in after an early screening of the movie recently took place. The show's audience was mostly comprised of critics and influencers, who have since given their reactions to the movie. One X (formerly Twitter) user praised the new Superman film after catching the first 30 minutes of it, stating, 'Needless to say it was DAMN BEAUTIFUL. Time absolutely flew by.' Another compared James Gunn's Superman to Zack Snyder's, writing in their review that Corenswet's version is '180 degrees away from' Snyder's Man of Steel. Detailing the experience of his friend who witnessed the screening of the film, the X user wrote, 'He said the trailers have been a bit of a misdirect. But the most important thing was…he really, really liked it.' Meanwhile, an early reaction to Superman drew parallels between the movie and the fan-favorite Superman: The Animated Series, noting, 'It's very Silver-Age. It's got a lot of those sci-fi tropes. It's big in spectacle, drama, and laughs. Big in its heart. A very earnest film,' on X. Renowned entertainment insider Daniel Richtman also noted the positive early reactions to James Gunn's latest film, stating, 'I hear #Superman is good.' While the leaked early reactions to Superman suggest a positive overall reception for the new movie, more detailed reviews from critics and the general public will arrive online as the film nears its big-screen release date of July 11, 2025.

DC's Peacemaker Sequel Series Isn't Canceled, James Gunn Confirms
A new update has confirmed that James Gunn's DC series is not canceled and remains in active development. Gunn debunked fan rumors on Threads that claimed the show was canceled or reworked. The director confirmed its status after months of silence since the project's original announcement in early 2023. Responding to a fan question on Threads about rumors that the Waller show was being reworked into a Checkmate series, James Gunn replied, 'Yes,' when asked if the rumors were 'B.S.' He also confirmed with a simple 'Yes' that Waller remains in development. Gunn introduced the Waller series in January 2023 as part of the DCU's first slate, which included five films and five shows. Viola Davis leads the cast as Amanda Waller. She stars alongside Steve Agee as John Economos, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. The show originally targeted a late 2024 release, but the 2023 Hollywood strikes reportedly delayed production. Warner Bros. has not announced a new release date. Meanwhile, Davis has continued portraying Waller in other DC projects. She voiced the character in four episodes of the animated Creature Commandos series, released in 2024. She also appeared in Peacemaker Season 1, which Gunn confirmed is canon within the DCU, excluding the Justice League cameo. Warner Bros. plans to release Waller on its streaming platform, Max, but has not disclosed an official date. In a January 2024 Threads post, Gunn stated Waller does not appear in Superman, but that comment predates the film's production. ARGUS now operates under Rick Flag Sr.'s control, a storyline explored in Peacemaker Season 2. As a result, Waller's role in the DCU could shift significantly. Rumors claimed DC had recently canceled the Waller series. However, Gunn clarified in a separate post that the mystery cancellation did not involve Waller and reaffirmed its active status in the upcoming slate. Superman, the DCU's first live-action film, releases on July 11, 2025. Originally reported by Anubhav Chaudhry on SuperHeroHype. SUPERMAN Post-Credits Scenes Reportedly Revealed and They Don't Set Up Any Future DCU Films — GeekTyrant
James Gunn's Superman just had its first official screening, and naturally, details are leaking online. With select press, influencers, and a few lucky DC fans in attendance, it was only a matter of time before post-credits details surfaced, and now they have. According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Superman includes two post-credits scenes, and true to Gunn's word, they're not focused on laying down the DCU's future roadmap. Instead, they feel more like small moments meant to add flavor rather than fuel speculation. 'Superman has two post credits scenes, one is Superman with Krypto on the moon looking at the Earth. 'The second is Superman and Mister Terrific looking at a giant crack in a massive building because the ground split in half during the finale and Supes says it's crooked and Terrific gets all annoyed and walks away and kicks a rock. It's a funny scene.' So yeah… no cameos, no cosmic threat teased, no ominous new villain lurking in the shadows. The first post credits scene with Superman and Krypto has actually been featured on a poster and a TV spot. The Mister Terrific bit sounds more like something to make audiences laugh. For some fans, that might be refreshing. But for others, especially those expecting Marvel-style teases, it could feel like a letdown. That's by design, though. Gunn has made it clear he's not trying to turn every movie into a springboard for the next. Instead, he's aiming for stories that can stand on their own while naturally overlapping through shared characters. Take Guy Gardner, for example. We'll meet him in Superman, then see more of his story in Peacemaker before he pops up again in Lanterns , alongside Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It's a slower, more character-focused way to build a universe. Gunn isn't chasing interconnected chaos. He's crafting a world with breathing room. While Superman's post-credits scenes might not be headline-worthy teases, they will offer heart, a bit of humor, and no rush to get somewhere else.

James Gunn Says SUPERGIRL is The Next DC Movie After SUPERMAN Because Its "Incredible Script" — GeekTyrant
James Gunn continues to make it clear that in the new DCU, quality takes the lead, no exceptions, no shortcuts. During a recent chat with Omelete, Gunn explained why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is officially the second film being released, right after Superman flies into theaters. It's not because of a grand connected-universe strategy, it's because the script rips. 'I didn't necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make, but Ana [Nogueira] wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director. We're going to do this movie after Superman because he was the best option.' The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Danvers and will be directed by Craig Gillespie ( I, Tonya, Cruella ). It's based on the acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic by Tom King, but with some deeper cuts worked in, including early material from King's drafts and the addition of Lobo (Jason Momoa). The story follows Kara as she journeys across the stars on a mission of vengeance, tracking down the killer of a young girl's father, a cosmic western of sorts, with Gunn added: 'Other movies have been written, but they haven't been as good as this one. So we're going to keep going with that. Everything has to be good. Quality comes first in every project we do. And that's more important than telling a grandiose mega-narrative.' That focus on storytelling over spectacle isn't just talk. Gunn previously admitted that he recently shut down a fully greenlit project because the script wasn't strong enough, even though everyone else was ready to roll cameras. 'We just killed a project. Everybody wanted to make the movie. It was greenlit, ready to go. The screenplay wasn't ready. And I couldn't do a movie where the screenplay's not good.' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow lands in theaters June 26, 2026, and if Gunn's instincts are right, this one could be the surprise heart of the new DCU.
