Superman Ending Explained: Does David Corenswet Stop Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor? All About How He Sets Up Supergirl's DCU Future
The new Superman movie under James Gunn's DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters has plenty going on in its ending. The film wraps up with Superman taking on Lex Luthor's biggest plan yet, a dangerous pocket universe, and a powerful clone named Ultraman. After escaping Lex's prison, Clark Kent returns home to Kansas to rest. But when he sees news of an invasion in Jarhanpur, Mister Terrific warns him that Metropolis is at risk too. Clark heads back to Metropolis where an interdimensional rift is tearing the city apart, thanks to Lex's pocket universe tech. Superman vs. Ultraman Lex Luthor uses the rift to keep Superman busy. He also sends The Engineer to drown Superman, but Clark fights off her nano tech. Lex's big move is revealing Ultraman - a clone of Superman made from a strand of Clark's hair. Superman fights Ultraman but struggles until he calls Krypto for help. Together, they knock Ultraman into a black hole. Clark and Krypto then defeat Lex's other backup plans. Here's how Lex's scheme unfolded Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, with help from Eve Tesmacher, discover Lex's arms deal with Boravia. He's been selling weapons cheaply to take over half of Jarhanpur. Lex admits it was just an excuse to try to kill Superman once and for all. Meanwhile, the Justice Gang and Metamorpho save Jarhanpur from Boravia's military. Hawkgirl kills the Boravian leader, securing peace for Jarhanpur. Clark then flies to Lex's flying office and stops him from escaping. He tells Lex, 'I'm human,' something Lex never understood. Mister Terrific arrives and closes the rift, saving Metropolis. Krypto attacks Lex before he's sent to Belle Reve prison. Lois and Clark share a kiss, and she finally says she loves him back. Superman offers her an exclusive interview. Supergirl joins the DCU future At the end, Supergirl lands in the Fortress of Solitude to collect Krypto, her dog. She thanks Clark for watching him and hints at more adventures. In the post-credits scenes, Superman relaxes with Krypto while Mister Terrific fixes a damaged building. James Gunn said, 'What I'm working on is in some way…yes, yes, yes,' about a sequel. There's no confirmed Superman 2 yet, but fans can expect to see Clark and Supergirl again soon.

Superman ending explained: Post-credit clues, Supergirl reveal and Justice Gang setup
Superman released in theatres on July 11, officially kickstarting James Gunn's new DC Universe. While Creature Commandos came first on the release schedule, this is the first full-blown live-action film of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. With David Corenswet taking on the cape, this reboot was under huge pressure to get things right after the DCEU ended in 2023. The story is packed. Superman faces off against Lex Luthor, meets fellow heroes, protects Metropolis, and finds out shocking truths about his parents. But most importantly, it quietly sets up the wider DCU without being too loud about it. Here's how the movie ends, what those mid- and post-credit scenes really mean, and where things go from here. Lex Luthor's masterplan backfires Lex Luthor secretly teams up with Boravia's corrupt president. He gives them weapons in exchange for a deal to split the neighbouring country, Jarhanpur, after a full invasion. But it's all a cover. Lex doesn't care about politics; he wants to destroy Superman. It took damn near 50 years but we finally got a good Lex Luthor in a Superman movie To trap him, he uses pocket universe tech that he earlier used to imprison 'Supes'. This dimension begins to tear Metropolis apart, creating a growing rift. Superman wants to fly off and stop Boravia, but Mister Terrific warns him that the rift could soon wipe out the whole world. Lex sends the Engineer and a masked warrior named Ultraman after Superman. After a brutal fight, it's revealed Ultraman is a clone of Superman, created from a single strand of hair. They battle near a black hole created by the rift. Superman wins by knocking his clone into the void, and Terrific closes the rift just in time. Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen expose Lex Luthor Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, flying above the chaos, piece together the story. With help from Eve Tesmacher, who secretly sends them photos, they find proof that Lex was behind the invasion plan. His deal with Boravia and his plan to kill Superman are made public. Superman storms Lex's flying office and stops him from fleeing. With his lies exposed and his allies defeated, Lex is arrested and taken to Belle Reve Prison. Justice Gang saves Jarhanpur JAMES GUNN on the JUSTICE GANG:"They're good. They just are not saintly.'Via @EW While Superman handles Metropolis, the Justice Gang: Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific team up with Metamorpho to protect Jarhanpur. They stop Boravia's army. Hawkgirl ends the fight in brutal style by dropping the Boravian president from the sky. Metamorpho, meanwhile, joins the Justice Gang. Supergirl introduced in the DCU The movie ends with Superman returning to the Fortress of Solitude. His Superman Robot helpers are just being repaired when someone crashes through the wall, it's Supergirl (played by Milly Alcock). Milly Alcock's Supergirl is gonna be Generational 🔥 She's drunk, confused, and looking for her dog. That dog turns out to be Krypto, who's been with Superman all along. Kara jokes with Clark, plays rough with Krypto, and slurs him for looking after her pet. Then she flies off again. Her outfit and attitude are straight from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, which her upcoming movie is based on. Mid-credit scene: Moonlight moment between Superman and Krypto The first credits roll using the classic Superman font, backed by the song 'Punkrocker' by Teddybears and Iggy Pop. Then we see Superman and Krypto sitting side by side on the moon, looking down at Earth. It's a quiet tribute to All-Star Superman (2011) animated film and also one of the film's posters. Post-credit scene: Mr. Terrific annoyed In the second scene, Superman and Mister Terrific look at a rebuilt Metropolis building that seems a bit uneven. Superman says, 'It's just a little off,' and Terrific snaps. 'What do you want me to do!? Take it apart and rebuild it!?' They argue briefly, with Superman awkwardly apologising. Terrific storms off. It's a light scene, but it adds personality to the new DCU, more bonding than setup. What does it mean for the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) James Gunn didn't end Superman with a big multiverse twist or surprise villain. Instead, the film completes a full arc, sets up new heroes, and hints at future stories. We meet the Justice Gang. We meet Supergirl. And we get a glimpse of how different this new DC Universe might be. The quiet confidence in these final scenes says one thing clearly: the DCU is just getting started.

Peacemaker season 2 trailer seems to embrace the Multiverse as John Cena's antihero meets his doppelganger
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A new trailer for Peacemaker season 2 has arrived - and it's already packing in cameos, surprises, and major teases about what's to come as the fan favorite streaming series returns. In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, we see John Cena suit up once again as Peacemaker for an interview with the Justice League, specifically with Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner. But things don't go exactly as planned. Have a look: Along with the appearance of the Justice League, we learn that the season will focus on Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. hunting down Peacemaker for killing his son back in The Suicide Squad. We get some flashes of heavy action, some heartfelt moments with the cast, and a hilarious introduction to some new characters. But that's not all - the trailer ends with Peacemaker passing through what appears to be a doorway to another reality to confront another version of himself from the Multiverse. Could this be the mechanism that brings together the continuity of the recently relaunched DC Studios with the previous version? Or is this something else entirely, a misdirection? The returning cast includes Freddie Stroma's Adrian Chase, Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo. We also have Tim Meadows, Sol Rodriguez, David Denman, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. - who, if you might recall, has some unfinished business with Peacemaker. Season 1 hit HBO and Max in 2022, prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran's takeover of DC. The overhaul and new slate of projects had some fans worried that Peacemaker wouldn't make the cut, but the hero fits right in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Peacemaker season 2 is due to be released on HBO and Max in the US and Sky in the UK sometime in 2025. Superman's runtime is just over 2 hours long, but director James Gunn denies rumors that the studio stopped it from being longer: "Zero truth to that"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Superman director James Gunn has taken to social media to confirm the DC movie's runtime, but moved just as quickly to deny any suggestions of studio interference in the final cut. Recent cinema listings had Superman down at 129 minutes, with Gunn replying to a fan on Threads to say that was correct "inclusive of credits/post credits." When a commenter replied, "Any truth that [Warner Bros] forced you to make it shorter?", Gunn wrote: "Zero truth to that. And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to. It's a DC Studios film." Starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel alongside Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, Superman marks the first live-action project of DC Studios' nascent DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Other confirmed projects for the first wave of DC's new universe include the Aaron Pierre-starring Lanterns, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Clayface movie, and a new Batman project separate from Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves' own Bat-Verse. Peacemaker season 2, meanwhile, follows immediately on from Superman's story this August, with a recent trailer hinting at some multiversal shenanigans – and could clue us in on how the DCU connects to the old DCEU. According to Gunn, there's even a "really, really, really big cameo" for fans to look forward to. Superman joins a packed schedule in July, which includes Jurassic World Rebirth and a duel with Marvel as Fantastic Four takes its First Steps into the MCU. For more, check out the movie release dates to look forward to in 2025. Then catch up on the story so far with a look at how to watch the DC movies in order.
