Wriddhiman Saha enters coaching arena as Bengal eyes him for U-23 role
Former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha is set to begin his coaching journey with the Bengal U-23 team. Meanwhile, Delhi's Ranji Trophy head coach race between Sarandeep Singh, Vijay Dahiya, and Rajiv Vinayak is heating up. read more New Delhi: Six months into retirement from competitive cricket, one of India's finest wicketkeepers Wriddhiman Saha is all set to enter the coaching arena with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) showing interest in hiring him as the head coach of U-23 state team. Saha, 40, retired from first-class cricket in January this year at the end of Bengal's league stage campaign in the Ranji Trophy. It is understood that former Bengal skipper Laxmi Ratan Shukla will continue as the head coach of the senior team while former off-spinner Saurashis Lahiri will coach the U-19 team. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'The CAB brass will be zeroing in on all the candidates for various teams by next week. Obviously, Wriddhi has been sounded out and a final decision will be taken next week. Apart from Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy, he is the biggest name from Bengal with 40 Tests,' a senior CAB source told PTI on the condition of anonymity. 'His experience of playing top level cricket for so long will only help the Gen-Next of Bengal cricket. Wriddhi already runs a chain of coaching centres and he has been a very hands on coach for juniors. He is passionate about coaching. Hopefully, he will be ready,' the source said. While there is not much precedence in Bengal cricket about players being drafted into the coaching system immediately after retirement but Saha's case is slightly different considering his stature in state cricket. The Bengal U-23 side till last season was being coached by former India opener Pranab Roy, son of legendary late Pankaj Roy. Many people in Bengal circuit believe that Saha is cut out to become a good coach. His experience with U-23 squad could prove to be handy if he joins any IPL team in future or as a specialist coach at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. It's Dahiya vs Sarandeep for Delhi men's Ranji coach job Delhi Ranji team's head coach job is expected to be a two-way battle between former India players Sarandeep Singh and Vijay Dahiya, both of whom have applied for the post. The Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) is conducting interviews for support staffs, selectors for various age group (U-16, U-19, U-23) along with senior teams. Sarandeep is the current Delhi head coach while Dahiya has handled the state team on a couple occasions in the past. The former India stumper is an assistant coach with Lucknow Super Giants and has also coached the Uttar Pradesh Ranji team. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'There are three candidates in the running. DPL T20 auctions are set to take place on 6th and 7th July in New Delhi. After a successful first season, the Delhi Premier League (DPL) is back to entertain the cricket fans in the national capital. Last year we saw stars, like Priyansh Arya and Digvesh Rathi, rising to fame and bag lucrative IPL contracts. They made the best use of the platform and created a name for themselves before heading back to where it all began. Ahead of the season, the franchises will gather on Sunday at the auction, looking to strengthen their respective squads. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has officially released the rules and auction structure. DPL T20 Announces Rules And Purse For Season 2 Auctions
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has officially released the rules and auction structure for the Men's and Women's Player Auctions of the highly anticipated Season 2 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL T20). The auctions will be conducted in New Delhi on July 6 (Men's) and July 7 (Women's) and will determine the composition of teams for what promises to be an even bigger and more competitive edition of the Capital's flagship cricket league. In a progressive move to expand the talent base, DDCA has announced that age will not be a barrier to participation in the auctions. Players of all age groups, including promising U-16 cricketers, will be eligible to go under the hammer and be picked by franchises. This move is expected to unearth future stars while ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunity across age categories. DPL T20 Season 2 – Men's Player Auction Rules Total auction purse per franchise: Rs 1.5 Crore Player categories Marquee Set – Players who have represented India or participated in the IPL (19 players) Category A – Ex-IPL (registered with DDCA) and First-Class DDCA players (35 players) Category B – DDCA U23, U19 & U16 players (105 players) Category C – Regional League players (361 players) Player retention rules: Each of the six existing franchises may retain one player across any of the four categories. Also, if a franchise chooses to retain a player, a deduction will be made from its auction purse based on the player's category as outlined below: Category-wise deduction from auction purse: Marquee - Rs 21 lakh Category A - Rs 10 lakh Category B - Rs 4.50 lakh Category C - Rs 1.50 lakh Right to Match (RTM) rules: Each of the six original franchises is allowed one RTM card during the auction. RTM can be used only for players in Category A, B, or C. RTM cannot be used for Marquee players. New franchises are not eligible to use RTM cards. Women's player auction rules: Total auction purse per franchise: Rs 75 lakh Player categories: Marquee Set – India representatives and ex-IPL/DDCA-registered players (7 players). Category A – DDCA First-Class players (18 players). Category B – DDCA U23 & U19 players (34 players). Category C – Regional League players (96 players). Player retention rules: Each of the four existing franchises may retain one player from any of the four categories. If a player is retained, the franchise's auction purse will be reduced as per the following table: Category-wise deduction from auction purse: Marquee - Rs 10.50 lakh Category A - Rs 6 lakh Category B - Rs 2.50 lakh Category C - Rs 1 lakh Right to Match (RTM) rules: Each of the four franchises is permitted one RTM card. New Delhi: Purani Dilli 6, the semi-finalist of the 2024 edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), have officially announced the retention of star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming season. Pant has been retained as a marquee player. Purani Dilli 6 had a decent campaign in DPL 2024, showcasing solid performances throughout the league stage. However, their journey was cut short in unfortunate circumstances as the semi-final clash was called off due to rain. With Pant continuing to anchor the squad, the team is expected to build a more competitive unit heading into the 2025 season.
