73 schools fail to collect marksheets from board
Ahmedabad: In a major negligence that has come to light, 73 Ahmedabad schools allegedly failed to collect the board exam marksheets of Class 10 and 12 (general and science stream), leaving several students unable to proceed with admission formalities without this essential document. This despite the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) repeatedly issuing instructions to schools informing them of the May 13 collection deadline. The Ahmedabad City district education officer (DEO) has now issued formal notices to these 73 schools, warning of action. They must now collect the marksheets and certificates from the DEO office using an official school letterhead. Additionally, around 60 schools in Ahmedabad also failed to collect the marksheets of Class 9 students who took the Prakharta Shodh Kasoti. Results were declared on March 25. Teachers rationalisation row: DEO's ‘mismanagement' now under probe
Raipur: In a fresh twist to the ongoing teacher rationalisation process, the women and child development and social welfare minister Lakshmi Rajwade directed Surajpur district collector S Jayavardhan to conduct a cross-departmental inquiry into alleged irregularities. The directive followed a meeting with the Shikshak Sanjha Manch (Teachers' Joint Forum), which strongly opposed the state govt's rationalisation policy and flagged alleged corruption and mismanagement by district education officer (DEO) Bharti Verma. The teachers' forum presented evidence of alleged corruption in the surplus teacher adjustment process. Despite repeated protests and memorandums from teacher associations, no action was taken against the DEO, prompting the forum to seek the minister's intervention. Teachers' associations continuously raised concerns about the lack of transparency and fairness in the rationalisation process, from identifying surplus teachers to their postings. Yadavenra Dubey, Sachin Tripathi, Vijay Sahu, Rakesh Shukla, Gautam Sharma, Rajkumar Singh, Krishna Soni, and Radheshyam Sahu of the Shikshak Sajha Manch said that many assistant teachers, teachers, and lecturers were allotted posts during counselling that were already filled. This led to a chaotic situation where teachers, after being relieved from their previous institutions, were denied joining at their new postings. These teachers were left in limbo, making rounds between the block education officer (BEO) and DEO offices for nearly 20 days. Subsequently, the DEO abruptly cancelled the double-posting orders and issued a vague directive regarding re-posting upon the availability of vacant positions. The situation escalated when, two days after this order, the DEO's office began telephonic counselling for lecturers late at night, pressuring them to select posts in three remote schools. Teachers, taken aback by this sudden telephonic counselling, refused to select posts over the phone. The Manch office-bearers, meeting minister Rajwade at the district-level 'Shala Pravesh Utsav' (School Enrolment Festival) at Tilsiwan auditorium, informed her that the DEO and her office staff were coercing teachers into telephonic counselling. They questioned the sudden appearance of vacant posts for telephonic counselling when, after the first round, there were no posts left in high schools and higher secondary schools for the division. This, they argued, was unjust to lecturers from the division who were posted in distant areas like Kondagaon and Dhamtari due to a lack of vacancies. The forum also highlighted that the double postings were a result of the DEO's error, and that teachers should not have to suffer by accepting postings in the way. They also sought a resolution for the salary payment issues for these teachers from the date of their relief until now. The teacher's body also complained about the DEO's alleged rude and undignified behaviour towards the public and teachers, demanding strict disciplinary action. Minister Rajwade took note of Manch's concerns and clarified that the probe would not be limited to the education department and the rationalisation committee but would include officers from other departments to ensure accountability. The district collector S Jayavardhan told TOI that he has marked the matter to the additional collector.

Ahmedabad school under fire for alleged RTE violations
Ahmedabad: Parents lodged a formal complaint with the city district education officer regarding discriminatory treatment of RTE students at GEMS Genesis International School (GGIS) near Vaishnodevi Circle. The school received an official notice from the DEO following the complaint, which also highlighted attempts to discourage RTE admissions. The complaint detailed that the school was unresponsive regarding uniform and book purchases. Seven RTE-admitted pupils faced isolation, with separate seating arrangements and different teaching schedules, concluding in afternoon dismissal. The school administration withheld academic and other relevant information from parents. During parental visits for enquiries, the school cited lack of classroom space, deferring consideration of RTE students. The institution charged Rs 4 lakh in fees, comprising Rs 1.5 lakh for tuition and Rs 2.5 lakh for activities. Parents received instructions to pay Rs 2.5 lakh for additional activities. These issues prompted the complaint submission to the DEO, resulting in an official notice. The complaint indicated systematic efforts by the school to pressure parents into withdrawing admissions. Govt to teachers: Don't visit secretariat for transfer issues
Patna: The education dept has asked teachers not to visit secretariat to lodge their complaints over transfer issues. In a letter issued to the district education officers (DEOs) on Wednesday, additional chief secretary S Siddharth said that issues related to transfers within the district will be considered by the committee formed under the chairmanship of district officer concerned, and appropriate action will be taken. The letter also stated that all teachers have the option to register their complaints online through the e-Shiksha Kosh portal. These complaints are regularly monitored at the state-level by the district-wise nominated nodal officers, he said. All complaints lodged by the teachers and registered are simultaneously visible to the district education officer, director of primary and secondary education, director of mid-day meal scheme, and additional chief secretary of the department, he added. Under the e-Shiksha Kosh system, the DEO has been assigned the responsibility of resolving the complaints and uploading compliance reports on the portal, so that the additional chief secretary's public grievance cell can periodically review them. Only inter-district matters will be considered at the state-level in very special circumstances. The letter stated that teachers trying to contact officials at the secretariat regarding the transfer issues disrupt departmental activities. Visiting the secretariat also causes personal difficulties for the teachers, it added.
