Hot seasonable week on tap for North Texas with temperatures expected in the 100s

Another hot yet seasonable July day is on tap. Expect partly cloudy skies with the high temperature reaching the mid-90s and winds from the south gusting up to 20 mph. There is still a moderate amount of moisture in the atmosphere, causing the feel-like temperatures to climb into the triple-digits. However, the dew points will be lower than Saturday, so heat index values won't reach the heat advisory criteria. Daytime heating will allow for a few pop-up showers during the late afternoon and evening. The potential for a 10 to 20% chance of rain will encompass cities to the south of I-20 and east of I-35. Most of North Texas will be dry. Monday, the heat dome begins to build across the Central United States. A ridge of high pressure will gradually dominate the weather pattern this next week. Compressional heating from the sinking, dry air will clear the skies and increase temperatures. It has been 338 days since DFW Airport recorded a triple-digit day. The streak looks to end this week. By next weekend, the ridge weakens, bringing temperatures down a few degrees and increasing the rain chances.

Heat advisory again Saturday, feels-like temps as high as 108°, isolated storm chances Saturday

Friday marked our hottest day of the year so far, with a high temperature of 99° at DFW Airport. Parts of North Texas reached triple-digit temperatures, though, including Fort Worth. Feels-like temperatures were even hotter, ranging from 100 ° to 107° across North Texas. We will see the return of our heat advisory again Saturday afternoon, even as air temperatures drop back into the middle 90s. It will be a very humid weekend in North Texas, so even with the drop in temperatures, our heat indices will still be as high as 108°, which puts us back into heat advisory criteria. Dew points will rise by as much as 10° this weekend, thanks to a plume of tropical moisture coming in from the Gulf. This moisture will bring additional cloud coverage, as well as isolated storm chances Saturday afternoon. Better chances will be along and east of I-35. That rise in dew points will give us a very muggy feel all weekend, keeping those feels-like temps well into the triple digits. As we head into next week, sunshine is back in full force; fortunately, dew points start to drop, but temperatures remain in the upper 90s to near-100 as a ridge of high pressure settles in over the Southern Plains. Stay hydrated, and limit outdoor time for you, your kids, and your pets. Stay cool!

DFW Airport gears up for 2026 World Cup travel rush

The Brief DFW Airport is preparing for the 2026 World Cup with new efficiency software and reduced wait times. American Airlines, a FIFA sponsor, plans its largest-ever schedule to transport fans to host cities. Travel experts advise booking flights and hotels soon, as availability is decreasing and cancellation policies may be stricter. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is typically busy during the summer travel season, so you can imagine how congested it will be during the World Cup. The airport and its major airlines are already planning for the event. What they're saying DFW airport CEO, Chris McLaughlin, is doing all he can to prepare for what is to come next summer. "All eyes will be on this region for the World Cup, and we're doing all we can to make sure we're prepared for it." DFW Airport's new efficiencies include the rollout of new Enhanced Passenger Processing software at passport control in Terminal D. It allows U.S. citizens to get through the checkpoint quicker. Wait times at DFW airport have now decreased by 25%. Fort Worth-based American Airlines is the official sponsor airline for FIFA. American Airlines Senior Vice President, Jim Moses, says they're ready to transport soccer fans to DFW and other host cities come this time next year. "This summer alone we're operating our largest schedule in our history, through DFW Airport, and that only looks to increase," said Moses. Dig deeper Travel expert Gabe Saglie can't contain his own excitement for the 2026 World Cup. "I might see you out there. I was looking at hotels, and I'm like none of these hotels in the downtown Dallas area have availability," said Saglie. Like many soccer fans, Saglie is already planning out his itinerary and suggests other FIFA fans do the same, sooner rather than later. "We're getting to a period where some of those flights will become available. I think a lot of hotels are currently blocking some of the rooms out. So, if you try to get a hotel room for that mid-June to mid-July period, you'll see that a lot of these dates aren't available. And I think hotels are holding out at this point." When it comes to booking flights or hotels for the World Cup this far out, Saglie recommends setting price alerts with your preferred travel website so you can compare prices and deals. The same advice applies to non-soccer fans who may find themselves in North Texas next June. "Most of the availability is around these vacation rentals. Rates are between $700 to $1,000 a night," said Saglie. "I mean they could drop. I wouldn't necessarily nail anything down. The other thing to keep in mind is for folks who are booking hotels, who are looking for vacation rentals. To be very cognizant of some of the restrictions that exist around rooms for dates around these major events." Why you should care To that point, Saglie says cancellation polices may be more restrictive during that time because of demand for lodging during the World Cup. So Saglie recommends you look into travel insurance as an option, in case your travel plans get derailed. Ground stop at DFW early Tuesday; 940+ flights delayed, canceled in Texas. Track status

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is under a ground stop — again — with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed early Tuesday. The latest alert marks the second consecutive day of disruptions at one of the nation's busiest airports. The culprit? A jammed-up weather pattern is poised to bring heavy rainfall, flooding, and even tornadoes to parts of Texas and beyond. The pattern, known as an omega block, is named for the way the jet stream bends into the shape of the Greek letter omega — Ω. It traps a high-pressure system over the northern Plains, flanked by two low-pressure systems on either side. As the block shifts or breaks down, those surrounding systems are free to push stormy weather southward, including into Texas. More: Hail and tornadoes possible over Texas. See map of real-time weather watches, warnings This stagnant system follows on the heels of a soggy late April and is expected to stick around for a few more days before clearing out by the weekend. Since early last week, DFW Airport has delayed or canceled more than 5,000 flights as waves of severe storms swept across North Texas. The region recorded 5.22 inches of rain in April, two inches above the monthly average of 3.22 inches. Severe weather has also disrupted operations at several other Texas airports, leading to nearly 950 flight cancellations across the state as of early Tuesday, with additional cancellations expected throughout the day. Weather-related delays are also impacting Love Field and Austin-Bergstrom International, and Houston's William P. Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports. More: What is a tornado watch? Severe storms bring possible apple-sized hail, tornadoes to Texas When will flights resume as normal in Texas? At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a ground stop, which temporarily halts flights headed to the airport, was initially scheduled to end at 10:15 a.m but has been extended to 11:15 a.m. However, continued delays are likely if severe weather continues. Currently, a ground delay remains in effect until 8 p.m., meaning arriving flights are being held at their departure airports due to limited airspace or ground capacity as storms move through the area. Average delays are currently around 76 minutes. Texas airport delays: See live flight status See up-to-date information on Texas' 10 busiest airports. The Department of Transportation created a dashboard for travelers to easily access information about services that U.S. airlines provide in the case of cancellations or delays. A new rule from the DOT that went into effect at the end of October requires airlines to refund passengers if their flight is significantly delayed for reasons within the carrier's control and also makes airlines more responsible for This article originally appeared on Austin American-Statesman: FAA issues ground stop at DFW again.
