Bears wide receiver hosts youth camp in Champaign
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze was host to a youth football camp in Champaign on Saturday. The camp, put on in partnership with Flex Work Sports, welcomed more than 400 kids to St. Thomas More High School. Advertisement There was also a surprise guest appearance from another Bears player: Wide receiver DJ Moore. Moore, who led the Bears in receiving yards on the 2024 season, showed up unannounced. 'He did not have to do that,' Odunze said. 'I didn't tell him I was doing a camp out here. I didn't tell anybody to come out just because it was a little bit of a ways from where everybody is at. That's my guy, that's my brother. He came out here with his family so it's always good to see them, they're doing well. So it means a lot to me that DJ would come out here but that's the Bears organization and all the guys there are very heartfelt and meaningful in that way. So, DJ's my guy, appreciate him.' 'I love Rome,' Moore told WCIA. 'Rome came to my camps so had to show the same respect and make my way out here with my family.' Advertisement It's one of a handful of camps Odunze is hosting over the 2025 offseason. He'll be in Rockford, Ill. for another one on Sunday, July 13. 'I have a lot of fun, of course, just giving back to them,' he said. 'Them having an opportunity to come out here and work hard, meet somebody in the NFL – That's what it's about. So, hopefully it provides them some sort of inspiration because I know they inspire me with all their energy and all their excitement.' As for the 2025 season, which will be Odunze's second in the NFL and the Bears' first under new head coach, he says the excitement is visible. 'Everybody is fired up, as they should be,' he said. 'We're building excitement and anticipation for the season and it's deservingly so. Exciting times, lots of changes… I think we have the right pieces to put it all together…' Advertisement The camp consisted of various drills, 7-on-7 games with Odunze at quarterback and photos/autographs. Mason Davis attended the camp from Monticello and left with a lasting memory. 'I caught a touchdown pass from Rome,' Davis said. 'He's a lot taller than I expected, but he was amazing today.' DJ Moore welcomes new Bears coach Ben Johnson's intense coaching style
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore is arguably one of the most important players to the team's success this upcoming season, and it'll be up to new head coach Ben Johnson to highlight his talent. After coming up just short of a 100-reception, 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024, Moore has the potential to put up big numbers with his new head coach and his second season with quarterback Caleb Williams. Advertisement Last month, Moore spoke about Johnson's presence in his first year as head coach in Chicago, including his intensity, attention to detail, and the refreshed feeling of a new offense. "It's fun, but intense," Moore said. "A lot of hard work goes into it. You've got to be on your P's and Q's and yougot to know the play playbook." When speaking about Johnson's intensity, Moore said he doesn't let it bother him as a player and believes his new head coach makes players look within themselves about why they might be receiving criticism. "I don't think it gets on your nerves," Moore said. "It's just more like, dang, you've got to look at deep down in yourself and be like, did I really mess up? Did I execute the play at the highest level that I can? Was I slacking or was it perfect? So that's what he wants, perfection, but we know we all can't be perfect every play, so just being as close we can is the best thing." Advertisement After signing with Chicago, there's been plenty of chatter about what Johnson will bring to a Bears offense that was lackluster last year. Moore feels Johnson's arrival and new offense is a welcomed fresh start. "To shake things up, keep everybody motivated and going," Moore said. "You never know what you're going to get the next day. Then there's always a question of what we got and you've always got to be ready." If Moore is already noticing plenty of changes and differences since Johnson's arrival, it should be a sign for plenty of optimism on how the Bears offense could look in the 2025 season. LOOK: Chicago Bears' top rookies report for training camp
The Chicago Bears are just days away from the start of training camp, and players around already starting to trickle in. Saturday marked the day rookies, quarterbacks and injured players reported to Halas Hall. Veterans are set to report on Tuesday before the first closed practice Wednesday morning. The Bears' social media account is sharing glimpses at the team's top rookies as they arrive, including tight end Colston Loveland, wide receiver Luther Burden III and defensive tackle Shemar Turner. All eight of Chicago's draft picks are officially under contract, which isn't something every team can say right now as most second-round picks remain unsigned. The Bears have several prominent rookies primed to serve key roles in their first season. Loveland and Burden will serve as two of several weapons for quarterback Caleb Williams -- with Loveland serving as a 1-2 punch at tight end with Cole Kmet and Burden joining a receiver room featuring DJ Moore and Rome Odunze. Ozzy Trapilo is competing for the starting left tackle job with Braxton Jones and Kiran Amegadjie and Ruben Hyppolite II is battling Noah Sewell for the third linebacker spot. Meanwhile, Turner will serve a key role along the defensive interior while cornerback Zah Frazier and running back Kyle Monangai could possibly push for playing time as rookies.
