New eyes in the skies: What to know about new DPS assets in the San Angelo area

San Angelo residents might notice more activity in the skies with the Texas Department of Public Safety's addition of its Aircraft Operations Division to the area, according to a DPS media release. DPS officials said the expansion is a big step in enhancing public safety and operational capabilities across a broad region stretching from Del Rio to Lubbock. The San Angelo unit is operating both a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, providing vital air support across this large geographic area, officials said in the media release. "We are excited to bring this valuable service to the San Angelo area," DPS officials said. "While residents may notice increased aerial activity, rest assured — it's a friendly eye in the sky, dedicated to keeping our communities safe." DPS officials said the AOD plays a crucial role in statewide air patrols, criminal surveillance, and search and rescue missions. In addition, the division strengthens public safety while supporting all DPS divisions and county, state, and federal agencies, DPS officials said. With advanced technology, air patrol units assist in apprehending fugitives, locating suspects, deterring criminal activity and reinforcing border security. "Additionally, the division enhances search and rescue operations by partnering with local, state, and federal first responders to locate and recover individuals during disaster-related incidents," DPS official said in the media release. Upset over State not implementing Direct Payment System, garbage collectors plan Delhi Chalo

Upset over the Congress government in Karnataka not fulfilling its promise to bring garbage collectors like sweepers under the Direct Payment System (DPS), Karmika Samrakshana Trade Union, representing over 15,000 garbage collectors in the State, has decided to kick start a Delhi Chalo rally on July 25. 'The entire Congress leadership had promised to free us from the clutches of contractors and bring us under DPS. It was part of their manifesto as well. But now, two years after coming to power, they are backtracking on this promise. So we have decided to march to Delhi and seek accountability from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi,' said Tyagaraj, president, Karmika Samrakshana Trade Union. Speaking at the event where appointment letters to over 12,000 pourakarmikas were issued on May 1, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had promised that garbage collectors will soon be brought under DPS. However, three weeks later in the last week of May, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that garbage collection and transportation tenders were called in 33 packages for a period of next seven years, essentially going back on the promise to bring garbage collectors under DPS and locking them up under contractors for the next seven years. These tenders have run into legal hurdles in the High Court of Karnataka. Sources said the contractors' lobby has been strongly opposing taking out garbage collection and transportation from their hands. A section of bureaucracy has also opposed the civic body, or BSWML, taking over the operation completely, sources said. They cite a lack of vehicles, infrastructure, and a lack of credible rolls to bring garbage collectors on the rolls of the civic body. 'Finally, it's a policy decision by the political executive. In the absence of any directions to bring garbage collectors under DPS, we are continuing with the contract system,' a senior civic official said.

Number of people getting free or subsidised ADHD medication more than doubles in five years

The number of people receiving medication for ADHD under free or subsidised drug schemes has surged by 150% since the beginning of the covid pandemic, costing more than €30m in the past five years. A total of 25,715 patients were prescribed medication for the neurodevelopmental disorder on the medical card or other public health schemes last year, compared to 10,327 in 2020. The annual cost of the medication, which is most often a stimulant called methylphenidate, also more than doubled during that period, rising from €4.1m in 2020 to €9.3m last year. Last year, 11,357 patients were prescribed drugs for ADHD on the medical card, while 12,105 patients who were medicated for the disorder received reimbursements under the Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS). A further 2,253 people received medication for ADHD under the Long-Term Illness (LTI) scheme. Galway was the Local Health Office (LHO) area with the highest number of patients who were prescribed ADHD drugs under the medical card scheme last year, with 833. This was followed by Laois-Offaly, where 557 medical card holders received the medication. The LHO area with the highest number of patients who received reimbursements for ADHD medication under the DPS in 2024 was Dublin South East, with 1,261, followed by Dun Laoghaire with 818. Researchers said there was a 'strong association' between the impact of the pandemic and the worsening of ADHD symptoms, which include inattention, hyperactivity, and emotional dysregulation. Earlier this year, researchers at the University of Huddersfield and Aston University attributed a reported rise in ADHD diagnoses since the pandemic to increased awareness of the disorder via social media. They also said there was a 'strong association' between the impact of the pandemic and the worsening of ADHD symptoms, which include inattention, hyperactivity, and emotional dysregulation. Drugs used to treat the disorder include methylphenidate, which is better known by the brand names Ritalin, Concerta and Delmosart, as well as two other stimulants: dexamfetamine and lisdexamfetamine. In April, Government Chief Whip Mary Butler, the minister of state with responsibility for mental health, suggested that a surge in young children with ADHD was driving waiting lists for Camhs. Records released under freedom of information show that the number of patients prescribed medication for ADHD on the medical card scheme has increased by 69% since 2020. The number of people prescribed ADHD on the DPS increased by 655% from 1,604 to 12,105 during the same period, while the number of patients receiving ADHD drugs on the LTI scheme increased by 12%. The LHO area with the lowest number of patients prescribed medication for ADHD under the medical card scheme last year was West Cork, with 79. It was also the lowest LHO area under the LTI scheme, with seven. A total of 80 patients on the DPS were prescribed ADHD drugs in Roscommon in 2024, according to the records released by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

The secret diary of .. Luxon in China

MONDAY 'Where are your slippers?,' Amanda said. 'You'll need your slippers.' Much is at fate for the destiny and wellbeing of New Zealand as I head to China this week to deliver a set of deliverables. 'I can't find your slippers,' she said. Other great helmsmen from history must have felt the same excitement and sense of purpose as they prepared to carry the hopes of their people and sit down to make sure they get share of mind. 'Your feet get so cold in air-conditioned hotel rooms,' she said. But it's more than the welfare of Kiwis that is at stake. These talks in China are held at a delicately poised time of increased global volatility and I have an important voice as world leaders iron out a phased launch within a wider strategy. 'If you won't help, then suit yourself,' she said. The DPS arrived. It was time to go. The great tides of history wait for no man. TUESDAY It's a very long flight to China but that allowed an opportunity to get to know the trade delegates from Zespri, Fonterra, and Supercheap Auto which stocks a variety of car batteries, air filters, coolants and more. Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran was also among the delegation. 'Not what it used to be, is it,' I said. 'Sorry?' 'The airline. It used to be one of the world's great airlines. I led it into an era of unprecedented success but the bottom seems to have fallen out since I left office.' 'None of that is true,' he said, and left to use the bathroom. I never saw him again. WEDNESDAY We raced off out of the blocks with meetings to raise awareness of the New Zealand tourism offering in the Chinese market, and a visit to a cosmetics event to discuss regulatory barriers of skincare products. You don't want to boil the ocean by alphabetising our client contact information but at the same time you want to reach out and come away with important learnings. I was on my feet all day. They hurt and I think I might have chilblains. THURSDAY To the Langham Hotel for a Fonterra event promoting grass-fed dairy where attendees were served milk in champagne flutes. And then the Peninsula Hotel, to oversee the announcement of a new flight route between China and South America, stopping in Auckland. After that, The Do Drop Inn where reps from Supercheap Auto wowed Chinese officials with budget deals on the Tridon Coolant Temperature Sensor, Fuel Injection Air Flow Meter and the Bissell Spot Clean Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner. Our tiger team really moved the needle on that one. But it was misery to go back to the hotel. They keep the aircon on high and I just could not get my feet warm. FRIDAY A face-to-face with President Xi in Beijing—my first since China sent a strike force into the Tasman Sea without warning. I said to him, 'We have huge areas of co-operation that can advance the wealth of both countries, but we also have to acknowledge that we have differences.' He seemed to be playing Solitaire on his phone, but he gave me his full attention, and asked, 'What differences?' I thought of the possible bonanza in sales of meat and kiwifruit. I thought of the benefits of the visit to the skincare event and the excitement caused by good deals on motor oil provided by Supercheap Auto. Mainly I thought of how my feet were frozen blocks of ice, and I said, 'Nothing really. It's all good. Let's lean into our moving parts and build on our core competency!' The DPS arrived. It was time to go. They had found me a pair of slippers.
