Image credit: Maximilian Gunther/Instagram Maximilian Gunther seems to have picked up from where he left off in Jakarta. After winning the last Formula E race in Jakarta in 2023, the DS Penske driver topped the first free practice race at the Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit on Friday. He was followed by TAG Heuer Porsche driver Antonio Felix Da Costa in second place and Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing in third. Jakarta E-Prix 2025 FP1 highlights With his performance in FP1 on Friday, Maximilian Gunther has shown he is very much in the running for the title in Jakarta this year. Like Gunther, Edoardo Mortara also proved he is back to his winning ways, finishing third in FP1. He had clinched the third spot on the podium in the inaugural session of the Jakarta E-Prix in 2022 when he was driving for Venturi-Mercedes. Finishing second in FP1 is the first positive sign for Antonio Felix Da Costa, who is currently third in the Formula E Driver Standings and is yet to win a podium in Indonesia. This season's leading Formula E driver, Oliver Rowland, has also hinted at being one of the contenders for the winner's trophy by finishing fourth in the first free practice race on Friday. The Nissan driver hit a barrier while nearing the finish line but managed to get going again. He was followed by Andretti's Nico Mueller in fifth position. Jaguar TCS Racing driver Mitch Evans, who won the first Jakarta race in 2022 and bagged the third spot on the podium in 2023, finished sixth in FP1. His teammate Nick Cassidy followed him in seventh position. Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum finished eighth, and his teammate David Beckmann finished tenth. Jean Eric Vergne of DS Penske, who won pole and secured second place on the podium in the inaugural Jakarta race in 2022, finished ninth in the practice session. Andretti's Jake Dennis, who had clinched second place in both races of the last edition, ended up in 13th position in the practice race. Envision Racing's Robin Frijns retired mid-race after scraping along the chicane for a decent distance before finally smashing into the barrier at Turn 7. He got out of the car and ended his run in FP1. Formula E packs 18 races into record 2025-26 calendar

Formula E has announced its biggest calendar yet as 18 rounds will make up the 2025-26 campaign with Brazil hosting the opener. The all-electric championship will visit Sao Paulo on 6 December with the season once again concluding at the ExCeL Arena in London on 15-16 August after a contract extension was agreed. Advertisement Formula E is still waiting on two 'TBC' rounds for next season's calendar though, which was approved by the FIA's World Motorsport Council in Macau on Tuesday. It comes after several racing calendars were revealed, including Formula 1's for 2026. After Sao Paulo, Formula E will return to Mexico City and the popular Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on 10 January, followed by Miami. The US race has a new home, dropping the Homestead Speedway after one event, and will now be held at the Miami International Autodrome for round three on 31 January - which is understood to be the start of a multi-year contract. Formula E is familiar with the circuit, hosting the Evo Sessions there earlier in 2025 – an influencer event aimed at raising awareness of the championship during an eight week break in the calendar. Jean-Eric Vergne, DS Penske Jean-Eric Vergne, DS Penske DPPI DPPI Advertisement The series' co-founder and chief championship officer Alberto Longo also hinted that Evo Sessions would return for the 2025-26 campaign, running parallel to the Miami race weekend. Formula E will also be back at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia for rounds four and five across 13 and 14 February. Jarama, Madrid, is a new addition to the calendar, having stepped in to host pre-season testing last year when devastating flooding hit the Valencia region of Spain. Drivers had positive feedback about the venue, which hosted F1 on nine occasions from the late '60s to early '80s. Madrid will kickstart the European leg of the calendar, with Jarama a single-header on 21 March and is followed by two double-headers in Berlin and Monaco. Advertisement The yet to be confirmed rounds follow, which are expected to be finalised at a forthcoming FIA World Motor Sport Council Meeting later this year. Race action Race action Andreas Beil Andreas Beil Jakarta in Indonesia, is notably absent and may fill one of the slots, with Sanya also being heavily speculated to make it two Chinese locations in a single season for Formula E – one of its key markets. Shanghai is back on 4-5 July, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 July, which is the latest slot it has had since debuting in 2024. The Japanese event has been hugely successful, especially with the dominance shown by Nissan and Oliver Rowland this season, with there being talks it could become a night race in due course. Advertisement Finally, London concludes the racing season with a double-header across 15-16 August around the unique half-indoor and half-outdoor ExCeL circuit. However, with Gen4 on the horizon for the 2026-27 season, this could be the last time the championship races at the temporary track as car speeds and power continues to increase. Formula E changes Shanghai E-Prix schedule due to heavy rain forecast

Formula E will see a change to its planned Shanghai E-Prix schedule on Sunday, as heavy rain poses a threat to the running of the second race of the weekend. In Saturday's race, the first round of its double-header weekend in China, Maximilian Guenther secured his second victory for DS Penske in an action-packed race at the Shanghai International Circuit, with his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne making it a maiden 1-2 for the American team. Advertisement Tomorrow will likely be a very different day, with heavy rain forecast across the municipality for the majority of Sunday. The amended schedule will now see Free Practice 3 moved an hour earlier to 07:00 local time, with the same for qualifying which is now at 09:00 local time in Shanghai. The race has also been reshuffled and lights out will begin at 13:00 local time. It's understood that if rain prevents any times being set in FP3 or qualifying, the results from the second free practice on Saturday will be used to form the starting grid, meaning Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa will be on pole and McLaren's Taylor Barnard will start alongside him on the front row. A spokesperson for Formula E confirmed: 'As the inclement weather forecast for Sunday's race is anticipated to impact the current sporting schedule for Round 11, the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix, together with the FIA, Teams and Manufacturers have taken the decision to amend the event timings in order to allow maximum track sessions to go ahead, taking into consideration rain and light conditions. Advertisement "The safety and experience of our fans, guests and personnel are our highest priority as we aim to put on the best racing spectacle possible here in China. We thank the organisers and local authorities for their prompt and unified response and we look forward to another successful Hankook Shanghai E-Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit tomorrow.' Advertisement As wet races impact the championship more regularly, with the past three events all affected by rain, the majority of drivers are discontent with the all-weather Hankook compound available to the grid. 'It is not a wet tyre, it doesn't work in the wet at any point,' McLaren's Sam Bird told after Monaco. 'Even the guys that came at the front can say it doesn't even work in the wet. All the drivers have said similar things [about introducing a full wet tyre] for quite a while, not just with the current supplier. "It has been a bit of, not an issue, but when you are racing and you're pushing the rubber, the rubber is going to move and manipulate itself and anytime you have a tread block of any sort that then can push water away, it's not going to be good in the dry. 'Similarly if you have a block that is good with dry running, it is never going to be able to dissipate water. It is very challenging. Advertisement 'The cars are getting so quick now, I think Formula E should consider bringing a form of wet tyre to the races.' Bridgestone has already been confirmed as the championship's sole tyre supplier from the 2026/2027 season onwards through to 2029/30 – the Gen4 era. It will become the third different tyre supplier the championship has seen since debuting in 2014, after Michelin starred things off as a founding partner until Hankook took over from the 2022/23 season. Shanghai E-Prix 2025: Maximilian Gunther calls Round 10 race a 'real masterclass', Jean-Eric Vergne hurts wrist in podium finish

DS Penske driver Maximilian Gunther won the first race of the Shanghai E-Prix on Saturday, clinching his second victory of the season after his win in Part 1 of the Jeddah E-Prix. Vergne started from tenth on the grid to join pole-winner Gunther on the podium. DS Penske drivers react to double win in Formula E Round 10 in Shanghai Sharing his picture with the trophy on Instagram, Maximilian Gunther wrote after his win at the Shanghai E-Prix: 'YEEESS!!! Pole. Win. P1-P2 win as a team. Couldn't be happier! Huge congrats to @jeanericvergne on second place and big thanks to @ds_penske_fe @dsperformance for the amazing car and strategy today.' Gunther had said in a previous Instagram post that he was ready to give everything in the race after securing pole position in the qualifying round. After the win, he said, 'Amazing! A 1-2 for the team, I'm so happy. A real masterclass this race, I think the strategy, the pace, the execution, the moves – everything was nice. I knew when I put the overlap on Oli [Rowland] and had more energy, I just had to go and get my head down and try to be secure, which we managed. I'm extremely happy. It means a lot, especially after these last few weeks when momentum was not on our side. This weekend we certainly got it back! It's been a lot of hard work and I'm very happy for the team.' Jean-Eric Vergne delivered an impressive performance by reaching the podium despite starting deep in the pack. However, he sustained an injury following a collision on his way to the finish line. Talking about the race and his strategy, Vergne said: 'What a race! It's been a rollercoaster. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now I left a little bit of my front wing in the last corner, I think a bit of my wrist as well – I was suffering the whole race, I really hurt it. Honestly I don't know, I just went for it – I think we did the right call keeping the Attack Mode quite late. Everybody was attacking a lot and I thought that since everyone was doing that I should save a bit more energy and try to use it towards the end, and it paid off quite nicely. Sunday's schedule includes the third free practice session and qualifying in the morning, followed by the final Round 11 race in the afternoon—with rain in the forecast.
