Speaking on the occasion, SP Jagadeesh directed officials to identify accident hotspots (black spots) across the district and investigate the causes behind frequent accidents. He emphasiaed the need for installing CCTV cameras, speed-breakers, and signage boards in such areas. He also instructed officials to launch special drives to raise awareness about overloading of vehicles, particularly autos and transport vehicles. CM flags off 105 new DEVI e-buses, inaugurates Narela depot

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 105 new orange-coloured DEVI (Delhi EV Inter-connector) electric buses and inaugurated the newly built Sector A9 depot in Narela, calling it a step towards cleaner and more efficient public transport for the capital. Gupta said the depot was completed in just 90 days and claimed it reflects the BJP government's commitment to deliver on promises made to Delhi residents. She also attacked the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of pushing Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) into losses and fostering a corrupt system. 'Buses are Delhi's lifeline. But under the previous government, routes were cut, buses reduced, and corruption seeped in,' she said. Referring to the CAG report, Gupta claimed that DTC had incurred losses amounting to Rs 65,000 crore during the earlier regime. She alleged that even the free bus ride scheme for women was marred by corruption and panic buttons were installed 'just for show'. Highlighting features of the new nine-metre-long electric buses, Gupta said they are equipped with air conditioning, panic buttons, and real-time monitoring systems. 'When we removed paper tickets and moved to cards, AAP spread lies that women would no longer travel for free. But the move was only to curb corruption,' she said. Meanwhile, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, who was present at the event, said the previous government denied people their right to better buses. 'These buses should have arrived by last monsoon, but the former government failed to deliver. Today, the BJP is fulfilling that promise,' he said. He said that earlier DEVI buses were green in colour, and this is the first time an entire fleet of orange-coloured buses has been introduced. This adds more vibrancy, and we will continue increasing their numbers, as we have been doing since the launch of the DEVI buses. Delhi BJP leader Yogender Chandolia dismissed AAP's claim that this was just a rebranding exercise. 'If these were AAP's buses, they would have been on the roads months ago. These are new buses, purchased and brought in under the BJP. AAP never procured small electric buses - they reused old ones,' he said. Chandolia said the new compact DEVI buses, with seating for 23 and standing space for 17 passengers, are ideal for navigating Delhi's narrow lanes and will benefit people. 'This is the real Rekha Gupta Model - 'clean, modern, and efficient public transport,' he added. Currently, Delhi operates around 2,000 electric buses, and officials said the number will continue to rise, with a goal of achieving 100 per cent electrification of the bus fleet by 2027.

Unilever Just Dropped $1.5 Billion on a Soap Brand--Here's Why It Might Be Genius

Unilever (UN) is making a $1.5 billion move into the premium men's grooming gamequietly snapping up Dr. Squatch, the viral soap brand with a Sasquatch mascot and a cult-like following. Founded in 2013 by Jack Haldrup, Dr. Squatch built its name on natural bar soaps and clever online ads. It has since expanded into deodorants, colognes, and hair care, selling through both e-commerce and retail shelves. While Unilever declined to confirm numbers, the Financial Times pegged the price tag at $1.5 billion, citing sources familiar with the matter. For Unilever, this isn't just about soap. Dr. Squatch fills a key gap in its men's personal care lineup, sitting alongside Axe and Dove Men+Care but with a more premium, DTC-native edge. The company said it plans to scale Dr. Squatch globallyhinting at ambitions well beyond the U.S. market. This could position Unilever to go head-to-head with Procter & Gamble's Old Spice, especially among younger men who care more about ingredients, branding, and online authenticity than shelf placement. The backstory? Summit Partners had reportedly been exploring a sale last year, targeting a $2 billion valuation. That makes this $1.5 billion deal a potentially savvy entry point for Unileverespecially if it can maintain Dr. Squatch's digital momentum while expanding internationally. Investors watching consumer staples may see this as more than just a quirky soap play. It's a calculated bet on brand storytelling, digital distribution, and premium male groomingan $80+ billion global market that's only getting more fragmented and competitive. Out of the 57 layout plans, several concerned private properties. The formation of the standing committee faced a delay of two and a half years, resulting in numerous projects being held up. Any project exceeding Rs 5 crore needs the committee's approval. On Friday, the meeting lasted for more than three hours. Leader of the opposition Ankush Narang questioned the reasons for not placing important proposals related to waste management despite an urgent requirement for their approval. Chairman Sharma assured that all steps would be taken to accelerate the operation of the committee and approve necessary projects on time. BJP's Inderjeet Sehrawat, a committee member, highlighted 160 shops that were sealed in 2018 on the direction of the Supreme Court-monitored committee. "Sealing was also carried out on Wednesday and Thursday on the orders issued by the deputy commissioner, Najafgarh zone. My only question is why only certain areas are targeted when building bylaws are violated rampantly in entire Delhi," he said, adding that the commissioner should speak to the home ministry, the lieutenant governor and the chief minister to resolve the matter as the decision has left several unemployed. Councillors also inquired about the release of funds for the maintenance of parks under the public-private partnership scheme to residents welfare associations. Commissioner Ashwani Kumar said the details of bills till March 31 were collected and Rs 20 crore would be released soon after the availability of funds. AAP councillor Rafia Mahir questioned the shortage of staff in the public health department, including anti-malaria officers in 12 zones. She also pointed out the non-payment of salaries in Hardayal Library for 36 months. "On the high court's direction, MCD issued Rs 4 crore out of Rs 12 crore, but the amount is less." The commissioner said funds would be allocated based on availability.
