Disney cracks down on DVC rentals, and it could cost members big
Disney Vacation Club recently updated its policy to crack down on commercial rentals, but some say it's leaving some members confused. DVC, Disney's version of a timeshare, added a new condition to its membership terms and conditions in early June, requiring people to certify their booking is "solely for personal use and not for commercial purposes" by clicking a checkbox, according to Disney Tourist Blog. It goes on to define personal use as "enjoying the benefits of a DVC Membership with family or allowing use of any reserved Vacation Home to friends and family on occasion." The highs and lows: What it's like to cruise Disney with your whole family This policy of prohibiting commercial use has been long-standing and is now reflected by the new adjustment, according to Disney. The move is intended to curb large-scale renters who exploit the system for profit. However, some believe the language is too murky for the average member to navigate and doesn't effectively reduce commercial renters. "It is creating heartburn for average everyday members who want to follow the rules," said Chad Pennycuff, a DVC member since 2017 and host of the My DVC Points podcast. Cracking down on commercial renters Social media has proliferated the practice of commercial renting, with some "fringe" members consistently having up to 30 key reservations during peak travel times, such as the winter holidays, according to Pennycuff. "The internet and social media changed all that … people share on Facebook groups to rent out points," he said. Some members have complained they can't find availability during this time, leading to DVC implementing the new requirement. Tom Bricker of Disney Tourist Blog told USA TODAY in an email that he believes DVC's visible policy change is "placating members who have complained about the proliferation of commercial renters, decreasing demand for rentals by introducing an element of risk and uncertainty, and scaring some of the large commercial renters into voluntarily exiting the market." While he thinks it could improve availability "ever-so-slightly," commercial renters are highly efficient and have thousands more points than the average member, so it won't be very effective. How will the change impact DVC members? While most DVC members will likely still be able to rent out to friends and family without issues, others may find the new language narrowly defined and worry about breaking the rules, said Pennycuff. Many members often need to rent or sell their points if they can't take a trip that year, otherwise they lose money. "If you've got two to three years in a row that life hits you and you can't go on vacation … your dues are still due every year," he said. Can I still book through third-party companies? Probably not. Reputable third-party companies that specialize in booking DVC stays by acting as brokers between members and outside guests shouldn't be impacted by the update. These companies act as intermediaries between the two parties and aren't the ones renting the points; instead, they receive a commission for the transaction, said Pennycuff.

Min seeks special assistance from Union govt for cities
Ranchi: State urban development minister Sudivya Kumar on Tuesday wrote his counterpart in the Centre, Manoharlal Khattar seeking assistance for implementing urban infrastructure projects in state. The letter comes at a time when Ranchi and other key towns of the state are battling breakdown of civic amenities like drainage system, among others. The minister said urbanisation in Jharkhand is happening at a rapid pace. But there is a severe lack of facilities like urban infrastructure, affordable housing and organized public transport among others. The Union govt has approved a scheme for cities located on the banks of the Ganga and its tributaries under the Namami Gange Yojana to keep the Ganges and its basins free, he cited. "To do this, there is a need to first clean Damodar river, a tributary to Ganga, by setting up sewerage treatment plants in Dhanbad, Phusro, and Ramgarh. But there is no provision of sewerage network in it. Hence, full benefit is not being achieved," he said, adding that connecting other rivers (tertiary rivers), besides the tributaries of Ganga with this project, will have a far-reaching effect. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! "Ranchi and Jamshedpur are on the banks of the Subarnarekha river, Chas on the Garma, Deoghar on the Ajay, Dumka on the Mayurakshi, and Palamu on the the Koel. The bodies situated in these towns/cities have not been included under the sewerage treatment plants and interception and diversion scheme under the Namami Gange Project," he said. He also raised the pending issues related to water allocation from Damodar Valley Corporation. "While the state govt has received water allocation for six water supply schemes (Jamtara, Domanch, Jhumritilaiya, Barkisaraiya, Dhanwar and Dhanbad) by Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC), DVC is stopping the intake well construction work citing Rs 104 crore outstanding water charges. We urge you to direct DVC not to link other dues with these schemes, and provide necessary permission for intake well construction soon," he said. He also sought fiscal assistance for Ranchi Sewerage Management (Phase-II) scheme. "Sewerage Management Ph-I (1 STP: 37 MLD, 280 KM network) for Ranchi city is about 85% complete. DPR of Ph-II scheme (4 STPs: 284 MLD, 1115 KM network) is ready but implementation is pending due to lack of finance," he said, urging Centre to also support in rolling out electric buses to upgrade urban traffic system in Ranchi and other key cities. "The Centre's support for the establishment of a dedicated State Urban Development Training Institute can give a new flight to integrated urban development in Jharkhand," he underlined.

India should intervene diplomatically to stop Iran-Israel conflict: Mamata
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed concern over the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and urged the Centre to take diplomatic initiatives to help end the hostilities between the two West Asian nations. The conflict has seen hundreds of missiles and drones exchanged between Israel and Iran since tensions escalated over a week ago, with the situation worsening significantly following the US bombing of three major Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday morning. During her address in the assembly on environmental issues, Banerjee said, "War has broken out in many parts of the world. Such things cause air and water pollution. We have to take steps to stop this." She said, "External affairs come under the Indian government. Diplomatically, peacefully, we must take initiative so that war stops." Banerjee clarified, "I am not authorised to speak on external affairs and diplomatic issues. This is my personal view as a concerned citizen of this world." Speaking on the flood situation in Ghatal sub-division in Paschim Medinipur district, she said, despite repeated reminders, the central agency DVC is "not undertaking dredging operations" at its dams in Maithon and Panchet. She accused the DVC of releasing large volumes of water from its dams during the rainy season "without informing" the West Bengal government. "They are releasing water without informing us. They have not conducted dredging operations for many years. Now, DVC has the accumulated capacity to store one lakh cusec of water in its dams. Had they undertaken dredging operations regularly, four lakh cusecs of water could have been stored in their dams and such overflowing in vast parts of south Bengal won't recur," Banerjee said in the assembly. West Bengal Irrigation Minister Manas Bhuniya had on Monday said nearly two lakh people have been affected in the floods at Ghatal sub-division in Paschim Medinipur district and asserted that the government was taking every possible step to help the marooned people. Bhuniya had alleged that the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) aggravated the situation by "failing to regulate the release of water" from its dams in Jharkhand despite requests from the West Bengal irrigation department. The minister had told reporters that he wrote to the chairman of the organisation to exercise caution while discharging additional water in future.

'Take steps to stop this': Mamata Banerjee asks Centre to step up global diplomacy; urges for world peace
NEW DELHI: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee voiced concerns over air and water pollution caused due to the 'war' that has broken out in many regions, urging the Centre to take diplomatic initiatives and help de-escalate these ongoing conflicts. Speaking in the state assembly during a discussion on environmental issues, Banerjee said global warfare not only threatens peace but also contributes to pollution. 'War has broken out in many parts of the world. Such things cause air and water pollution. We have to take steps to stop this,' she said. These comments from the TMC leader come amidst the backdrop of escalating conflicts in the Middle East as Iran and Israel exchanged hundreds of drones and missiles. These tensions arose over a week ago, turning more volatile as the US entered the West-Asian conflict, bombing three major Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday. Mamata called the foreign ministry to initiate peace efforts, "External affairs come under the Indian government. Diplomatically, peacefully, we must take initiative so that war stops." Addressing the flood situation in Ghatal sub-division of Paschim Medinipur district, she criticised the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for failing to carry out dredging at its Maithon and Panchet dams, despite repeated reminders. She also accused the DVC of releasing excess water from its Maithon and Panchet dams during the monsoon without proper communication with the state. 'They are releasing water without informing us. They have not conducted dredging operations for many years,' Banerjee said. She claimed that if regular dredging had been undertaken, the dams could have held significantly more water. 'Now, DVC has the accumulated capacity to store one lakh cusec of water in its dams. Had they undertaken dredging operations regularly, four lakh cusecs of water could have been stored in their dams and such overflowing in vast parts of south Bengal won't recur,' she said in the assembly. He blamed the DVC for worsening the situation by failing to regulate the release of water from its dams in Jharkhand, despite repeated appeals from the state's irrigation department. Bhuniya added that he has written to the DVC chairman, urging the agency to act responsibly and exercise greater caution while discharging excess water in the future.
